Analysing imperfect temporal information in GIS using the Triangular Model
Rough set and fuzzy set are two frequently used approaches for modelling and reasoning about imperfect time intervals. In this paper, we focus on imperfect time intervals that can be modelled by rough sets and use an innovative graphic model [i.e. the triangular model (TM)] to represent this kind of imperfect time intervals. This work shows that TM is potentially advantageous in visualizing and querying imperfect time intervals, and its analytical power can be better exploited when it is implemented in a computer application with graphical user interfaces and interactive functions. Moreover, a probabilistic framework is proposed to handle the uncertainty issues in temporal queries. We use a case study to illustrate how the unique insights gained by TM can assist a geographical information system for exploratory spatio-temporal analysis
Unfolding the color code
The topological color code and the toric code are two leading candidates for
realizing fault-tolerant quantum computation. Here we show that the color code
on a -dimensional closed manifold is equivalent to multiple decoupled copies
of the -dimensional toric code up to local unitary transformations and
adding or removing ancilla qubits. Our result not only generalizes the proven
equivalence for , but also provides an explicit recipe of how to decouple
independent components of the color code, highlighting the importance of
colorability in the construction of the code. Moreover, for the -dimensional
color code with boundaries of distinct colors, we find that the
code is equivalent to multiple copies of the -dimensional toric code which
are attached along a -dimensional boundary. In particular, for , we
show that the (triangular) color code with boundaries is equivalent to the
(folded) toric code with boundaries. We also find that the -dimensional
toric code admits logical non-Pauli gates from the -th level of the Clifford
hierarchy, and thus saturates the bound by Bravyi and K\"{o}nig. In particular,
we show that the -qubit control- logical gate can be fault-tolerantly
implemented on the stack of copies of the toric code by a local unitary

Rough Set Theory for Real Estate Appraisal: An Application to Directional District of Naples
This paper proposes an application of Rough Set Theory (RST) to the real estate field, in order to highlight its operational potentialities for mass appraisal purposes. RST allows one to solve the appraisal of real estate units regardless of the deterministic relationship between characteristics that contribute to the formation of the property market price and the same real estate prices. RST was applied to a real estate sample (office units located in Directional District of Naples) and was also integrated with a functional extension so-called Valued Tolerance Relation (VTR) in order to improve its flexibility. A multiple regression analysis (MRA) was developed on the same real estate sample with the aim to compare RST and MRA results. The case study is followed by a brief discussion on basic theoretical connotations of this methodology
