Con base en registros de literatura investigada se presenta un listado preliminar de 23 especies de la familia Aneuracea (Hepatophyta) para Venezuela, de las cuales 1 corresponde al género Aneura y 22 al género Riccardia. Los Andes y la región al sur del río Orinoco, son las áreas con mayor información disponible.A preliminary inventory of 23 species of Aneuraceae (Hepatophyta) is given for Venezuela. An evaluation of the bryophyte flora of the Azores

The diversity of bryophytes on the different islands of the Azores varies much between 104 and 324 species. Attempts have been made to explain the heterogenity of the bryoflora. There is a correlation between species numbers and age of the islands in the way that the youngest islands (Pico) has the lowest species numbers in spite of the fact that it is the highest island. The species numbers of the other islands are correlated with the maximum elevation and with the size of the islands. The liverwort-moss ratio varies between 1.21 and 1.67 and shows a distinct humidity gradient between the islands. The floristic affinities between the islands are calculated by a cluster analysis. They show no correlation with the location of the islands (nearest neighbour), size, age, elevation or species numbers, which indicates that the species composition is mainly determined by chance. Ten species (2,3%) are endemic to the Azores and 14 species (including one genus) are endemic to the Macaronesian Islands. Some of the endemics are questionable, others may occur elsewhere in the tropics under a different name, but there is fossil prove that the others are relicts from the Tertiary which survived extinction during Quaternary in Europe

A bryophyte checklist of the ecological reserve of Gurjaú, Pernambuco, Brazil

A bryophyte checklist of the Ecological Reserve of Gurjaú (08º10’00'’-08º15’00"S; 35º02’30"- 35º05’00"W), a remnant of the Atlantic Forest in the State of Pernambuco, has been compiled. The Reserve covers an area of approximately 1362 ha, including several forest fragments of diverse sizes and stages of conservation. Specimens collected during the years 2000 and 2001, and voucher specimens from the UFP Herbarium at the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE) were analyzed. Bryophytes were collected on live and dead trunks, rocks, leaves and soil. The studied bryoflora is composed of 53 species of liverworts, 37 species of mosses and one hornwort. Among the twenty-three registered families, Lejeuneaceae (41 spp.) was the most representative one with the highest generic and specific richness, which confirms its status as predominant in tropical rain forests. Fissidens (7 spp.), Lejeunea and Cheilolejeunea (6 spp.), and Calymperes (4 spp.) were the most representative genera. The studied bryoflora is predominantly composed of species of neotropical distribution, widely spread throughout Brazil. The presence of an endemic species of the Atlantic Forest, Vitalianthus bichlerianus (Pôrto & Grolle) Schust. & Giancotti, and some other exclusively Brazilian species, e.g., Riccardia regnellii (Ängstr.) Hell have been recorded from the site

Floristic survey of epixylic Bryophytes of an area remnant of the Atlantic forest (Timbaúba - PE, Brazil) : 1., Hepaticopsida (except Lejeuneaceae) and Bryopsida

A survey of the epixylic bryoflora of a remaining Atlantic forest (seasonal coastal deciduous forest), Engenho Água Azul, in the municipality of Timbaúba ( Lat 7° 35S; Long. 35° 20W ), State of Pernambuco, Brazil, registered 35 species of bryophytes distributed in 11 families of Bryopsida: Calymperaceae, Pilotrichaceae, Fissidentaceae, Hookeriaceae, Hypnaceae, Leucobryaceae, Leucomiaceae, Orthotrichaceae, Plagiotheciaceae, Sematophyllaceae, Thuidiaceae, and 5 of Hepaticopsida: Aneuraceae, Frullaniaceae, Geocalycaceae, Plagiochilaceae and Radulaceae. New records northeastern of Brazil are: Frullania caroliniana Sullivant, F. gymnotis Nees & Mont., Ochrobryum stenophyllum Besch., Plagiochila trigonifolia Steph., Radula macrostachya Linbenb. & Gott., Riccardia digitiloba (Spruce ex Steph.) Hell, Thuidium tomentosum Schimp. ex Besch. and Trichosteleum pusillum (Hornsch.) Jaeg. There is an indication of the description, illustration, and geographic distribution for Brazil of all taxons found.En este trabajo se presenta el catálogo de la flora briofítica epífita de la selva tropical oceánica Engenho Agua Azul, situada en el municipio de Timbaúba (Lat. 7º 35S; Long. 35º 20O), perteneciente al estado de Pernambuco, Brasil. Se registraron 35 especies de briófitos distribuidas en 11 familias de la clase Bryopsida: Calymperaceae, Pilotrichaceae, Fissidentaceae, Hookeriaceae, Hypnaceae, Leucobryaceae, Leucomiaceae, Orthotrichaceae, Plagiotheciaceae, Sematophyllaceae, Thuidiaceae y 5 de la clase Hepaticopsida: Aneuracee, Frullaniaceae, Geocalycaceae, Plagiochilaceae y Radulaceae. A systematic, literature-based compilation of bryophytes of Réunion Island has been made, with the additional examination of herbarium specimens. The list of 148 genera and 404 species and infraspecific taxa of mosses and 87 genera and 241 species and infraspecific taxa of hepatics and hornworts are here reported, including four mosses reported as new to Réunion

Bryophytes from the Republic of Equatorial Guinea (West Central Africa) : 3., contribution to the bryoflora of Rio Muni (continental region)

First results of the identification work of the collections made by Patxi Heras on Río Muni, the continental part of Equatorial Guinea, are offered. Results of a botanical expedition to mount Roraima, Guyana. I. Bryophytes

A bryological inventory of the Upper Mazaruni District, Guyana (former British Guiana) yielded almost three hundred species, including 2 genera and 11 species new to science and 130 species new to the Guianas. The densely forested and very humid north slope of Mount Roraima (500-2300 m.) proved to be the richest area for bryophytes and most of the novelties were found there. The present paper provides an enumeration of the species collected with a brief characterization of their habitat. The following species are described as new: Haesselia acuminata Gradst., Plagiochila gymnocalyx Inoue, Radula gradsteinii Yamada, Radula guyanensis Yamada, Radula mazarunensis Yamada and Stenorrhipis grollei Gradst. Anastrophyllum subg. Vanaea Inoue & Gradst. from Mount Roraima is elevated to generic rank
