Implicit equations of non-degenerate rational Bezier quadric triangles
In this paper we review the derivation of implicit equations for non-degenerate quadric patches in rational Bézier triangular form. These are the case of Steiner surfaces of degree two. We derive the bilinear forms for such quadrics in a coordinate-free fashion in terms of their control net and their list of weights in a suitable form. Our construction relies on projective geometry and is grounded on the pencil of quadrics circumscribed to a tetrahedron formed by vertices of the control net and an additional point which is required for the Steiner surface to be a non-degenerate quadric
Explicit Solution By Radicals, Gonal Maps and Plane Models of Algebraic Curves of Genus 5 or 6
We give explicit computational algorithms to construct minimal degree (always
) ramified covers of \Prj^1 for algebraic curves of genus 5 and 6.
This completes the work of Schicho and Sevilla (who dealt with the
case) on constructing radical parametrisations of arbitrary genus curves.
Zariski showed that this is impossible for the general curve of genus .
We also construct minimal degree birational plane models and show how the
existence of degree 6 plane models for genus 6 curves is related to the
gonality and geometric type of a certain auxiliary surface.Comment: v3: full version of the pape
On Weingarten transformations of hyperbolic nets
Weingarten transformations which, by definition, preserve the asymptotic
lines on smooth surfaces have been studied extensively in classical
differential geometry and also play an important role in connection with the
modern geometric theory of integrable systems. Their natural discrete analogues
have been investigated in great detail in the area of (integrable) discrete
differential geometry and can be traced back at least to the early 1950s. Here,
we propose a canonical analogue of (discrete) Weingarten transformations for
hyperbolic nets, that is, C^1-surfaces which constitute hybrids of smooth and
discrete surfaces "parametrized" in terms of asymptotic coordinates. We prove
the existence of Weingarten pairs and analyse their geometric and algebraic
properties.Comment: 41 pages, 30 figure
Implicitization of rational surfaces using toric varieties
A parameterized surface can be represented as a projection from a certain
toric surface. This generalizes the classical homogeneous and bihomogeneous
parameterizations. We extend to the toric case two methods for computing the
implicit equation of such a rational parameterized surface. The first approach
uses resultant matrices and gives an exact determinantal formula for the
implicit equation if the parameterization has no base points. In the case the
base points are isolated local complete intersections, we show that the
implicit equation can still be recovered by computing any non-zero maximal
minor of this matrix.
The second method is the toric extension of the method of moving surfaces,
and involves finding linear and quadratic relations (syzygies) among the input
polynomials. When there are no base points, we show that these can be put
together into a square matrix whose determinant is the implicit equation. Its
extension to the case where there are base points is also explored.Comment: 28 pages, 1 figure. Numerous major revisions. New proof of method of

Integral equations PS-3 and moduli of pants
More than a hundred years ago H.Poincare and V.A.Steklov considered a problem
for the Laplace equation with spectral parameter in the boundary conditions.
Today similar problems for two adjacent domains with the spectral parameter in
the conditions on the common boundary of the domains arises in a variety of
situations: in justification and optimization of domain decomposition method,
simple 2D models of oil extraction, (thermo)conductivity of composite
materials. Singular 1D integral Poincare-Steklov equation with spectral
parameter naturally emerges after reducing this 2D problem to the common
boundary of the domains. We present a constructive representation for the
eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of this integral equation in terms of moduli of
explicitly constructed pants, one of the simplest Riemann surfaces with
boundary. Essentially the solution of integral equation is reduced to the
solution of three transcendent equations with three unknown numbers, moduli of
pants. The discreet spectrum of the equation is related to certain surgery
procedure ('grafting') invented by B.Maskit (1969), D.Hejhal (1975) and
D.Sullivan- W.Thurston (1983).Comment: 27 pages, 13 figure
