    Model-driven software engineering for construction engineering: Quo vadis?

    Models are an inherent part of the construction industry, which leverages from the steady advancements in information and communication technology. One of these advancements is Building Information Modeling (BIM), which denotes the move from 2D drawings to having semantically rich models of the objects subject to construction. Additionally, the way stakeholders collaborate in construction projects and their organization is revisited. This is commonly denoted as Integrated Project Delivery (IPD). Both BIM and IPD originate from the basic principles of Lean Construction, the vision to minimize waste, increase value, and continuous improvement. The application of Model-driven Software Engineering (MDSE) to BIM is a natural choice. Although several approaches utilizing MDSE for BIM have been proposed, so far no structured overview of the current state of the art has been conducted. Such an overview is vitally needed, because the existing literature is fragmented among multiple research areas. Consequently, in this paper, we present a systematic literature review on the application of MDSE to BIM, IPD and Lean Construction resulting in a systematically derived taxonomy, which we used to classify 97 papers published between 2008 and 2018. Based on the taxonomy, we provide an analysis of the classified research showing (a) where the discourse on model-driven construction engineering currently is, (b) the state of the art of model-driven techniques in construction engineering and (c) open research challenges

    Automated analysis of feature models: Quo vadis?

    Feature models have been used since the 90's to describe software product lines as a way of reusing common parts in a family of software systems. In 2010, a systematic literature review was published summarizing the advances and settling the basis of the area of Automated Analysis of Feature Models (AAFM). From then on, different studies have applied the AAFM in different domains. In this paper, we provide an overview of the evolution of this field since 2010 by performing a systematic mapping study considering 423 primary sources. We found six different variability facets where the AAFM is being applied that define the tendencies: product configuration and derivation; testing and evolution; reverse engineering; multi-model variability-analysis; variability modelling and variability-intensive systems. We also confirmed that there is a lack of industrial evidence in most of the cases. Finally, we present where and when the papers have been published and who are the authors and institutions that are contributing to the field. We observed that the maturity is proven by the increment in the number of journals published along the years as well as the diversity of conferences and workshops where papers are published. We also suggest some synergies with other areas such as cloud or mobile computing among others that can motivate further research in the future.Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad TIN2015-70560-RJunta de Andalucía TIC-186

    What is Computational Intelligence and where is it going?

    What is Computational Intelligence (CI) and what are its relations with Artificial Intelligence (AI)? A brief survey of the scope of CI journals and books with ``computational intelligence'' in their title shows that at present it is an umbrella for three core technologies (neural, fuzzy and evolutionary), their applications, and selected fashionable pattern recognition methods. At present CI has no comprehensive foundations and is more a bag of tricks than a solid branch of science. The change of focus from methods to challenging problems is advocated, with CI defined as a part of computer and engineering sciences devoted to solution of non-algoritmizable problems. In this view AI is a part of CI focused on problems related to higher cognitive functions, while the rest of the CI community works on problems related to perception and control, or lower cognitive functions. Grand challenges on both sides of this spectrum are addressed

    Memotivasi pegawai di era Revolusi Industri 4.0 untuk meraih kinerja yang lebih baik adalah masalah utama bagi perusahaan manufaktur saat ini, lebih-lebih di saat pandemic, perusahaan masih terus berjuang untuk tetap eksis di masa krisis ini. Studi ini menyelidiki apakah praktik kepemimpinan transformasional mempengaruhi motivasi intrinsik pegawai, sekaligus mempertimbangkan efek mediasi dari variable basic need satisfaction. Data dikumpulkan dari 109 karyawan salah satu industri manufaktur swasta di Jawa Barat dengan menggunakan metode kuantitatif dan survei konfirmasi dengan bantuan software SmartPLS 3.0. Studi ini menunjukkan bahwa praktik kepemimpinan transformasional memberikan pengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap motivasi intrinsik pegawai, baik secara langsung maupun tidak langsung melalui mediasi basic need satisfaction. Hasil penelitian ini dapat memiliki implikasi yang signifikan terhadap pengambilan keputusan manajerial SDM tentang praktik kepemimpinan transformasional di lingkungan karyawan industri manufaktur di Indonesia. Di samping itu, studi ini juga membantu manajemen SDM industri manufaktur untuk serius menilai rencana investasi pengembangan SDM dalam bentuk implementasi praktik kepemimpinan transformasional untuk bertahan di era digital ini

    "QUO VADIS EAST-WEST JOINT VENTURE?" Reflections on Selected Aspects of the Development of East-West Joint Ventures

    This working paper is one of a series produced by TES-MTC project discussing the problems of East-West Joint Ventures located in the CMEA countries on a country basis. The paper gives an overview on the main features of the process of East-West joint ventures' establishment and operation. The author concentrates his efforts on analyzing the state-of-the-art, the recent problems and their possible solutions in the fields of joint ventures' establishment, management, technology related to joint ventures, joint ventures' effectiveness, bookkeeping and supply in a joint venture, consultancy for joint ventures. The paper also stresses other possible forms of East-West joint ventures in order to overcome some of the operational problems with respect to East-West payment options, supply, market opportunities, etc. At present discussions are going on in Czechoslovakia in connection with the latest legislation on enterprises with foreign property participation, as well as on the state-of-the-art of the joint venture practice in this country. The Management of Technological Change (MTC) project, part of the Technology, Economy & Society (TES) Program, has developed an international network which is performing an empirical study on practical problems of joint ventures located in various CMEA countries.
