Quantized passive filtering for switched delayed neural networks
The issue of quantized passive filtering for switched delayed neural networks with noise interference is studied in this paper. Both arbitrary and semi-Markov switching rules are taken into account. By choosing Lyapunov functionals and applying several inequality techniques, sufficient conditions are proposed to ensure the filter error system to be not only exponentially stable, but also exponentially passive from the noise interference to the output error. The gain matrix for the proposed quantized passive filter is able to be determined through the feasible solution of linear matrix inequalities, which are computationally tractable with the help of some popular convex optimization tools. Finally, two numerical examples are given to illustrate the usefulness of the quantized passive filter design methods
Disturbance observer design for nonlinear systems represented by input-output models
A new approach to the design of nonlinear disturbance
observers for a class of nonlinear systems described by inputoutput differential equations is presented in this paper. In contrast with established forms of nonlinear disturbance observers,
the most important feature of this new type of disturbance
observer is that only measurement of the output variable is
required, rather than the state variables. An inverse simulation
model is first constructed based on knowledge of the structure
and parameters of a conventional model of the system. The
disturbance can then be estimated by comparing the output of
the inverse model and the input of the original nonlinear system.
Mathematical analysis demonstrates the convergence of this new
form of nonlinear disturbance observer. The approach has been
applied to disturbance estimation for a linear system and a new
form of linear disturbance observer has been developed. The
differences between the proposed linear disturbance observer and
the conventional form of frequency-domain disturbance observer
are discussed through a numerical example. Finally, the nonlinear
disturbance observer design method is illustrated through an
application involving a simulation of a jacketed continuous stirred
tank reactor syste
Layer-based coding, smoothing, and scheduling of low-bit-rate video for teleconferencing over tactical ATM networks
This work investigates issues related to distribution of low bit rate video within the context of a teleconferencing application deployed over a tactical ATM network. The main objective is to develop mechanisms that support transmission of low bit rate video streams as a series of scalable layers that progressively improve quality. The hierarchical nature of the layered video stream is actively exploited along the transmission path from the sender to the recipients to facilitate transmission. A new layered coder design tailored to video teleconferencing in the tactical environment is proposed. Macroblocks selected due to scene motion are layered via subband decomposition using the fast Haar transform. A generalized layering scheme groups the subbands to form an arbitrary number of layers. As a layering scheme suitable for low motion video is unsuitable for static slides, the coder adapts the layering scheme to the video content. A suboptimal rate control mechanism that reduces the kappa dimensional rate distortion problem resulting from the use of multiple quantizers tailored to each layer to a 1 dimensional problem by creating a single rate distortion curve for the coder in terms of a suboptimal set of kappa dimensional quantizer vectors is investigated. Rate control is thus simplified into a table lookup of a codebook containing the suboptimal quantizer vectors. The rate controller is ideal for real time video and limits fluctuations in the bit stream with no corresponding visible fluctuations in perceptual quality. A traffic smoother prior to network entry is developed to increase queuing and scheduler efficiency. Three levels of smoothing are studied: frame, layer, and cell interarrival. Frame level smoothing occurs via rate control at the application. Adaptive delay-constrained internet media transport
Reliable transport layer Internet protocols do not satisfy the requirements of packetized, real-time multimedia streams. The available thesis motivates and defines predictable reliability as a novel, capacity-approaching transport paradigm, supporting an application-specific level of reliability under a strict delay constraint. This paradigm is being implemented into a new protocol design -- the Predictably Reliable Real-time Transport protocol (PRRT). In order to predictably achieve the desired level of reliability, proactive and reactive error control must be optimized under the application\u27s delay constraint. Hence, predictably reliable error control relies on stochastic modeling of the protocol response to the modeled packet loss behavior of the network path. The result of the joined modeling is periodically evaluated by a reliability control policy that validates the protocol configuration under the application constraints and under consideration of the available network bandwidth. The adaptation of the protocol parameters is formulated into a combinatorial optimization problem that is solved by a fast search algorithm incorporating explicit knowledge about the search space. Experimental evaluation of PRRT in real Internet scenarios demonstrates that predictably reliable transport meets the strict QoS constraints of high-quality, audio-visual streaming applications.Zuverlässige Internet-Protokolle auf Transport-Layer erfüllen nicht die Anforderungen paketierter Echtzeit-Multimediaströme. Die vorliegende Arbeit motiviert und definiert Predictable Reliability als ein neuartiges, kapazitäterreichendes Transport-Paradigma, das einen anwendungsspezifischen Grad an Zuverlässigkeit unter strikter Zeitbegrenzung unterstützt. Dieses Paradigma wird in ein neues Protokoll-Design implementiert -- das Predictably Reliable Real-time Transport Protokoll (PRRT). Um prädizierbar einen gewünschten Grad an Zuverlässigkeit zu erreichen, müssen proaktive und reaktive Maßnahmen zum Fehlerschutz unter der Zeitbegrenzung der Anwendung optimiert werden. Daher beruht Fehlerschutz mit Predictable Reliability auf der stochastischen Modellierung des Protokoll-Verhaltens unter modelliertem Paketverlust-Verhalten des Netzwerkpfades. Das Ergebnis der kombinierten Modellierung wird periodisch durch eine Reliability Control Strategie ausgewertet, die die Konfiguration des Protokolls unter den Begrenzungen der Anwendung und unter Berücksichtigung der verfügbaren Netzwerkbandbreite validiert. Die Adaption der Protokoll-Parameter wird durch ein kombinatorisches Optimierungsproblem formuliert, welches von einem schnellen Suchalgorithmus gelöst wird, der explizites Wissen über den Suchraum einbezieht. Experimentelle Auswertung von PRRT in realen Internet-Szenarien demonstriert, dass Transport mit Predictable Reliability die strikten Auflagen hochqualitativer, audiovisueller Streaming-Anwendungen erfüllt

The purpose of this paper is to identify the main opportunities and limitations of corporate social responsibility (CSR). The survey was defined with the aim to involve the highest possible number of relevant CSR topics and give the issue a more wholesome perspective. It provides a basis for further comprehension and deeper analyses of specific CSR areas. The conditions determining the success of CSR in Romania have been defined in the paper on the basis of the previously cumulative knowledge as well as the results of various researches.
