An Efficient Normalisation Procedure for Linear Temporal Logic and Very Weak Alternating Automata
In the mid 80s, Lichtenstein, Pnueli, and Zuck proved a classical theorem
stating that every formula of Past LTL (the extension of LTL with past
operators) is equivalent to a formula of the form , where
and contain only past operators. Some years later, Chang,
Manna, and Pnueli built on this result to derive a similar normal form for LTL.
Both normalisation procedures have a non-elementary worst-case blow-up, and
follow an involved path from formulas to counter-free automata to star-free
regular expressions and back to formulas. We improve on both points. We present
a direct and purely syntactic normalisation procedure for LTL yielding a normal
form, comparable to the one by Chang, Manna, and Pnueli, that has only a single
exponential blow-up. As an application, we derive a simple algorithm to
translate LTL into deterministic Rabin automata. The algorithm normalises the
formula, translates it into a special very weak alternating automaton, and
applies a simple determinisation procedure, valid only for these special
automata.Comment: This is the extended version of the referenced conference paper and

Encoding of Predicate Subtyping with Proof Irrelevance in the ??-Calculus Modulo Theory
The ??-calculus modulo theory is a logical framework in which various logics and type systems can be encoded, thus helping the cross-verification and interoperability of proof systems based on those logics and type systems. In this paper, we show how to encode predicate subtyping and proof irrelevance, two important features of the PVS proof assistant. We prove that this encoding is correct and that encoded proofs can be mechanically checked by Dedukti, a type checker for the ??-calculus modulo theory using rewriting
A Temporal Logic for Strategic Hyperproperties
Hyperproperties are commonly used in computer security to define information-flow policies and other requirements that reason about the relationship between multiple computations. In this paper, we study a novel class of hyperproperties where the individual computation paths are chosen by the strategic choices of a coalition of agents in a multi-agent system. We introduce HyperATL^*, an extension of computation tree logic with path variables and strategy quantifiers. HyperATL^* can express strategic hyperproperties, such as that the scheduler in a concurrent system has a strategy to avoid information leakage. HyperATL^* is particularly useful to specify asynchronous hyperproperties, i.e., hyperproperties where the speed of the execution on the different computation paths depends on the choices of the scheduler. Unlike other recent logics for the specification of asynchronous hyperproperties, our logic is the first to admit decidable model checking for the full logic. We present a model checking algorithm for HyperATL^* based on alternating word automata, and show that our algorithm is asymptotically optimal by providing a matching lower bound. We have implemented a prototype model checker for a fragment of HyperATL^*, able to check various security properties on small programs
Formalization of Universal Algebra in Agda
In this work we present a novel formalization of universal algebra in Agda. We show that heterogeneous signatures can be elegantly modelled in type-theory using sets indexed by arities to represent operations. We prove elementary results of heterogeneous algebras, including the proof that the term algebra is initial and the proofs of the three isomorphism theorems. We further formalize equational theory and prove soundness and completeness. At the end, we define (derived) signature morphisms, from which we get the contravariant functor between algebras; moreover, we also proved that, under some restrictions, the translation of a theory induces a contra-variant functor between models.Fil: Gunther, Emmanuel. Bisimulations for Delimited-Control Operators
We present a comprehensive study of the behavioral theory of an untyped
-calculus extended with the delimited-control operators shift and
reset. To that end, we define a contextual equivalence for this calculus, that
we then aim to characterize with coinductively defined relations, called
bisimilarities. We consider different styles of bisimilarities (namely
applicative, normal-form, and environmental) within a unifying framework, and
we give several examples to illustrate their respective strengths and
weaknesses. We also discuss how to extend this work to other delimited-control
operators
