An efficient data transmission policy in an integrated voice-data ds-cdma network
CDMA schemes appear to be promising access techniques for coping with the requirements of third-generation mobile systems, mainly because of their flexibility. This paper proposes an adaptive S-ALOHA DS-CDMA access scheme as a method for integrating non-real time (i.e. Internet applications) and real-time (i.e. voice) services, by exploiting the potentials of CDMA under time-varying conditions. The adaptive component terminals autonomously change their transmission rate according to the total (voice+data) channel occupancy, so that the minimum possible data delay is almost always achieved.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version
Adaptive S-ALOHA CDMA as an alternative way of integrating services in mobile environments
Code-division multiple-access (CDMA) schemes appear to be very promising access techniques for coping with the requirements of third-generation mobile systems, mainly because of their flexibility. This paper proposes an adaptive S-ALOHA DS-CDMA access scheme as a method for integrating nonreal-time (i.e., Internet applications) and real-time (i.e., voice) services in a multicell scenario by exploiting the potentials of CDMA under time-varying channel load conditions. The adaptive component makes data terminals autonomously change their transmission rate according to the total (voice+data) channel occupancy, so that the minimum possible data delay, which can be analytically obtained by defining a birth-death process, is almost always achieved. Moreover, by means of a simplified cellular model, the proposed algorithm revealed the same behavior, i.e., it tries to select the most suitable transmission rate at any time slot, when it is affected by intercell interference and even by power control imperfections. Finally, in order to gain more insight into the potentials of such an access strategy, the adaptive S-ALOHA CDMA scheme is then compared to a reservation time-division multiple-access (TDMA)-based protocol (PRMA++), showing the benefits of the CDMA-based solution in terms of capacity, flexibility, and data delay performance.Peer Reviewe
Reduced cost alternatives to premise wiring using ATM and microcellular technologies
The cost of premises wiring keeps increasing due to personnel moves, new equipment, capacity upgrades etc. It would be desirable to have a wireless interface from the workstations to the fixed network, so as to minimize the wiring changes needed. New technologies such as microcellular personal communication systems are promising to bring down the cost of wireless communication. Another promising technology is Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA), which could dramatically increase the bandwidth available for wireless connections. In addition, Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) technology is emerging as a technique for integrated management of voice, data, and video traffic on a single network. The focus of this investigation will be to assess the future utility of these new technologies for reducing the premise wiring cost at KSC. One of the issues to be studied is the cost comparison of 'old' versus 'new,' especially as time and technology progress. An additional issue for closer study is a feasible time-line for progress in technological capability
Chinese cellular telecommunications in the past and the 21st century
Cellular telecommunication technology is one of the hottest topics of the last two decades. The annual rate of user growth is more than 30 percent. It began with the first generation (1G) networks and bloomed with second generation (2G) of cellular technologies. New third generation cellular (3G) technologies aim at offering high-speed, superior-quality information service to mobile subscribers. [2]
The Chinese cellular market is developing with unbelievable speed. China launched its first cellular network in 1987. At the end of 2002, it was the biggest wireless market in the world, with more than 200 million subscribers. [56] Technologies used in the migration from the 2G networks to the 3G networks are referred to as 2.5 generation or 2.5G. It is no doubt that the 3G pattern selected in China will deeply affect the competition among the 3G technologies. This thesis will forecast the 3G systems to be selected for use in China.
It will begin with the 1G and 2G networks and then look into the 2.5 G and the 3G cellular telecommunication technologies in more detail. Analysis the history, culture and business conditions in China will follow. Finally, this paper will make a prediction of the principal Chinese 3G technologies that will be chosen based on analyzing concrete information. An examination of other Asia markets, such as the 3G markets in Japan, and South Korea will be included.
The conclusion of this thesis is that WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access), a 3G technology that is developed and supported by European telecommunication manufacturers, will take the lion\u27s share of the Chinese 3G market, about 65% to 70%. Another technology, CDMA2000, will take more than 20% of the Chinese 3G market share. There is also a Chinese oriented 3G technology named TD-SCDMA (Time Division Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access). With the Chinese government\u27s support, it will collect the remaining 10% to 15% market share
Wireless communications in the new millennium and third generation wireless networks
At the end of the 20 century, and at the beginning of this one, wireless communications are making large advances. The new technologies are on the way to provide a high-speed, high-quality information exchange between handheld terminals, and information repositories. The so called 2,5 generation networks, using the techniques like the HSCSD1, GPRS2, EDGE3, and the 3r generation wireless systems will help the wireless world to reach those goals. In this thesis I will start from the first and second-generation wireless networks, and then look into the 2,5 generation and 3rd generation wireless communications more in detail. The latest advances in the wireless world are the main focus of this paper although a short history of wireless communications is also given. The various aspects related to 3rd generation systems will be explored in this thesis, for example the air interface discussions, its time scale, its elements like the mobile equipment, software and security, USLM4, services that will be offered, etc. In addition, the technical factors and key technologies that are likely to shape the wireless network environment of the future will be explored. This part is expected to help us to see beyond the 3rd generation
Optimal channel allocation with dynamic power control in cellular networks
Techniques for channel allocation in cellular networks have been an area of
intense research interest for many years. An efficient channel allocation
scheme can significantly reduce call-blocking and calldropping probabilities.
Another important issue is to effectively manage the power requirements for
communication. An efficient power control strategy leads to reduced power
consumption and improved signal quality. In this paper, we present a novel
integer linear program (ILP) formulation that jointly optimizes channel
allocation and power control for incoming calls, based on the
carrier-to-interference ratio (CIR). In our approach we use a hybrid channel
assignment scheme, where an incoming call is admitted only if a suitable
channel is found such that the CIR of all ongoing calls on that channel, as
well as that of the new call, will be above a specified value. Our formulation
also guarantees that the overall power requirement for the selected channel
will be minimized as much as possible and that no ongoing calls will be dropped
as a result of admitting the new call. We have run simulations on a benchmark
49 cell environment with 70 channels to investigate the effect of different
parameters such as the desired CIR. The results indicate that our approach
leads to significant improvements over existing techniques.Comment: 11 page
Power control for WCDMA
This project tries to introduce itself in the physical implementations that make
possible the denominated third generation mobile technology. As well as to
know the technology kind that makes possible, for example, a video-call in real
time.
During this project, the different phases passed from the election of WCDMA
like the access method for UMTS will appear. Its coexistence with previous
network GSM will be analyzed, where the compatibility between systems has
been one of the most important aspects in the development of WCDMA, the
involved standardization organisms in the process, as well as the different
protocols that make the mobile communications within a network UTRAN
possible. Special emphasis during the study of the great contribution that has
offered WCDMA with respect to the control of power of the existing signals will
be made.
The future lines that are considered in the present, and other comment that
already are in their last phase of development in the field of the mobile
technology.
UMTS through WCDMA can be summarized like a revolution of the air
interface accompanied by a revolution in the network of their architecture
