Location-Quality-aware Policy Optimisation for Relay Selection in Mobile Networks
Relaying can improve the coverage and performance of wireless access
networks. In presence of a localisation system at the mobile nodes, the use of
such location estimates for relay node selection can be advantageous as such
information can be collected by access points in linear effort with respect to
number of mobile nodes (while the number of links grows quadratically).
However, the localisation error and the chosen update rate of location
information in conjunction with the mobility model affect the performance of
such location-based relay schemes; these parameters also need to be taken into
account in the design of optimal policies. This paper develops a Markov model
that can capture the joint impact of localisation errors and inaccuracies of
location information due to forwarding delays and mobility; the Markov model is
used to develop algorithms to determine optimal location-based relay policies
that take the aforementioned factors into account. The model is subsequently
used to analyse the impact of deployment parameter choices on the performance
of location-based relaying in WLAN scenarios with free-space propagation
conditions and in an measurement-based indoor office scenario.Comment: Accepted for publication in ACM/Springer Wireless Network
Relay Selection with Network Coding in Two-Way Relay Channels
In this paper, we consider the design of joint network coding (NC)and relay
selection (RS) in two-way relay channels. In the proposed schemes, two users
first sequentially broadcast their respective information to all the relays. We
propose two RS schemes, a single relay selection with NC and a dual relay
selection with NC. For both schemes, the selected relay(s) perform NC on the
received signals sent from the two users and forward them to both users. The
proposed schemes are analyzed and the exact bit error rate (BER) expressions
are derived and verified through Monte Carlo simulations. It is shown that the
dual relay selection with NC outperforms other considered relay selection
schemes in two-way relay channels. The results also reveal that the proposed NC
relay selection schemes provide a selection gain compared to a NC scheme with
no relay selection, and a network coding gain relative to a conventional relay
selection scheme with no NC.Comment: 11 pages, 5 figure
Selective Combining for Hybrid Cooperative Networks
In this study, we consider the selective combining in hybrid cooperative
networks (SCHCNs scheme) with one source node, one destination node and
relay nodes. In the SCHCN scheme, each relay first adaptively chooses between
amplify-and-forward protocol and decode-and-forward protocol on a per frame
basis by examining the error-detecting code result, and () relays will be selected to forward their received signals to the
destination. We first develop a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) threshold-based
frame error rate (FER) approximation model. Then, the theoretical FER
expressions for the SCHCN scheme are derived by utilizing the proposed SNR
threshold-based FER approximation model. The analytical FER expressions are
validated through simulation results.Comment: 27 pages, 8 figures, IET Communications, 201
