    Parallel dynamics of continuous Hopfield model revisited

    We have applied the generating functional analysis (GFA) to the continuous Hopfield model. We have also confirmed that the GFA predictions in some typical cases exhibit good consistency with computer simulation results. When a retarded self-interaction term is omitted, the GFA result becomes identical to that obtained using the statistical neurodynamics as well as the case of the sequential binary Hopfield model.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figure

    Dynamic Voltage Scaling Aware Delay Fault Testing

    The application of Dynamic Voltage Scaling (DVS) to reduce energy consumption may have a detrimental impact on the quality of manufacturing tests employed to detect permanent faults. This paper analyses the influence of different voltage/frequency settings on fault detection within a DVS application. In particular, the effect of supply voltage on different types of delay faults is considered. This paper presents a study of these problems with simulation results. We have demonstrated that the test application time increases as we reduce the test voltage. We have also shown that for newer technologies we do not have to go to very low voltage levels for delay fault testing. We conclude that it is necessary to test at more than one operating voltage and that the lowest operating voltage does not necessarily give the best fault cover

    Response Surface Methodology's Steepest Ascent and Step Size Revisited

    Response Surface Methodology (RSM) searches for the input combination maximizing the output of a real system or its simulation.RSM is a heuristic that locally fits first-order polynomials, and estimates the corresponding steepest ascent (SA) paths.However, SA is scale-dependent; and its step size is selected intuitively.To tackle these two problems, this paper derives novel techniques combining mathematical statistics and mathematical programming.Technique 1 called 'adapted' SA (ASA) accounts for the covariances between the components of the estimated local gradient.ASA is scale-independent.The step-size problem is solved tentatively.Technique 2 does follow the SA direction, but with a step size inspired by ASA.Mathematical properties of the two techniques are derived and interpreted; numerical examples illustrate these properties.The search directions of the two techniques are explored in Monte Carlo experiments.These experiments show that - in general - ASA gives a better search direction than SA.response surface methodology

    Throughput and fairness of multiple TCP connections in wireless networks

    TCP suffers from poor throughput performance in wireless networks. Furthermore, when multiple TCP connections compete at the base station, link errors and congestion lead to serious unfairness among the connections. Although the issue of TCP performance in wireless networks has attracted significant attention, most reports focus only on TCP throughput and assume that there is only a single connection in a congestion-free network. This paper studies the throughput and fairness of popular improvement mechanisms (the Snoop [8] and ELN [5]) and TCP variants with multiple TCP connections. Simulation results show that the improvement mechanisms under investigation are effective to improve TCP throughput in a wireless network. However, they cannot provide fairness among multiple TCP connections. From the studies presented, it is concluded that mechanisms to enhance TCP fairness are needed in wireless network
