Popularizing mathematics: from eight to infinity
It is rare to succeed in getting mathematics into ordinary conversation
without meeting all kinds of reservations. In order to raise public awareness
of mathematics effectively, it is necessary to modify such attitudes. In this
paper, we point to some possible topics for general mathematical conversation
PROGRESS REPORT ON THE CARFOP PROJECT
In implementation of the request advanced by the Advisory Committee at its 63rd Ordinary Session Paragraph 116 of its Final Report, Document Ref: CM/1908 (LXIII), the General Secretariat
(ESCAS Department) considered the convening of an Extra-Ordinary meeting of the Governing Board of CARFOP, which the Committee recommended to be convened not later than 31st March, 1996. Considering the availability of space and other logistics necessary for holding the meeting, the Secretariat proposed to the Embassy of the Republic of Cameroon in Addis Ababa on 12th of February, 1996 that the meeting take place from 29th February to 1st March, 1996 at the OAU Headquarters
Quasitriangular chiral WZW model in a nutshell
We give the bare-bone description of the quasitriangular chiral WZW model for
the particular choice of the Lu-Weinstein-Soibelman Drinfeld double of the
affine Kac-Moody group. The symplectic structure of the model and its
Poisson-Lie symmetry are completely characterized by two -matrices with
spectral parameter. One of them is ordinary and trigonometric and characterizes
the -current algebra. The other is dynamical and elliptic (in fact Felder's
one) and characterizes the braiding of -primary fields.Comment: 8 pages, LaTeX, to appear in the Proceedings of the Yokohama meeting

Integrating the voices of ordinary peopel in the understanding of well-being
The aim of this communication in the II Scientific Meeting in Psychology is to present some of the research, that is being done at the University of Évora, around the construct of Well-being, and to discuss the importance of integrating the voices of ordinary people in the understanding of Well-being. We will invite and argue for qualitative research that includes and facilitates our research participants’ thoughtful contributions about Well-being, in a rigorous and system- atic way. We will also briefly discuss some findings of a previous study, about former psychotherapy patients perspectives about Well-being, to empirically illustrate our thoughts.FC
