The performance of Taguchi’s T-method with binary bat algorithm based on great value priority binarization for prediction

Taguchi’s T-method is a predictive modeling technique under the Mahalanobis-Taguchi system that is based on the regression principle and robust quality engineering elements to predict future state or unknown outcomes. In enhancing prediction accuracy, the T-method employed Taguchi’s orthogonal array as a variable selection approach to determine a subset of independent variables that are significant toward the dependent variable or output. This, however, leads to sub-optimality of prediction accuracy as the orthogonal array design lacks in offering higher-order variable interactions, in addition to its fixed and limited variable combinations to be assessed and evaluated. This paper proposes an optimization algorithm based on the Binary Bat algorithm methodology for replacing the conventional orthogonal array approach. Specifically, a Great Value Priority binarization scheme is employed to transform the continuous location of the bat into a binary bit, representing a combination of the variable in binary string form. A comparative study was conducted, and the mean absolute error metric was used as the performance measure. Experiments show that the T-method prediction accuracy with the Binary Bat algorithm based on the Great Value Priority binarization scheme is better than that of the conventional T-method-orthogonal array

The world health organization (WHO) proclaimed the COVID-19, commonly known as the coronavirus disease 2019, was a pandemic in March 2020. When people are in close proximity to one another, the virus spreads mostly through the air. It causes some symptoms in the affected person. COVID-19 symptoms are quite variable, ranging from none to severe sickness. As a result, the fuzzy method is seen favourably as a tool for determining the severity of a person’s COVID-19 sickness. However, when applied to a large situation, manually generating a fuzzy parameter is challenging. This could be because of the identification of a large number of fuzzy parameters. A mechanism, such as an automatic procedure, is consequently required to identify the right fuzzy parameters. The meta-heuristic algorithm is regarded as a viable strategy. Five meta-heuristic algorithms were analyzed and utilized in this article to classify the severity of COVID-19 sickness data. The performance of the five meta-heuristic algorithms was evaluated using the COVID-19 symptoms dataset. The COVID-19 symptom dataset was created in accordance with WHO and the Indian ministry of health and family welfare criteria. The findings provide the average classification accuracy for each approach

Optimized Parameter Settings of Binary Bat Algorithm for Solving Function Optimization Problems

The bat algorithm (BA) is a new bionic intelligent optimization algorithm to simulate the foraging behavior and the echolocation principle of the bats. The parameter initialization of the discussed binary bat algorithm (BBA) has important influence on the convergence speed, convergence precision, and good global searching ability of the BBA. The convergence speed and algorithm searching precision are determined by the pulse of loudness and pulse rate. The simulation experiments are carried out by using the six typical test functions to discuss this influence. The simulation results show that the convergence speed of the BBA is relatively sensitive to the setting of the algorithm parameters. The convergence precision reduces when increasing the rate of bat transmitted pulse alone and the convergence speed increases the launch loudness alone. The proper combination of BBA parameters (the rate of bat transmitted pulse and the launch loudness) can flexibly improve the algorithm’s convergence velocity and improve the accuracy of the searched solutions

An enhanced binary bat and Markov clustering algorithms to improve event detection for heterogeneous news text documents

Event Detection (ED) works on identifying events from various types of data. Building an ED model for news text documents greatly helps decision-makers in various disciplines in improving their strategies. However, identifying and summarizing events from such data is a non-trivial task due to the large volume of published heterogeneous news text documents. Such documents create a high-dimensional feature space that influences the overall performance of the baseline methods in ED model. To address such a problem, this research presents an enhanced ED model that includes improved methods for the crucial phases of the ED model such as Feature Selection (FS), ED, and summarization. This work focuses on the FS problem by automatically detecting events through a novel wrapper FS method based on Adapted Binary Bat Algorithm (ABBA) and Adapted Markov Clustering Algorithm (AMCL), termed ABBA-AMCL. These adaptive techniques were developed to overcome the premature convergence in BBA and fast convergence rate in MCL. Furthermore, this study proposes four summarizing methods to generate informative summaries. The enhanced ED model was tested on 10 benchmark datasets and 2 Facebook news datasets. The effectiveness of ABBA-AMCL was compared to 8 FS methods based on meta-heuristic algorithms and 6 graph-based ED methods. The empirical and statistical results proved that ABBAAMCL surpassed other methods on most datasets. The key representative features demonstrated that ABBA-AMCL method successfully detects real-world events from Facebook news datasets with 0.96 Precision and 1 Recall for dataset 11, while for dataset 12, the Precision is 1 and Recall is 0.76. To conclude, the novel ABBA-AMCL presented in this research has successfully bridged the research gap and resolved the curse of high dimensionality feature space for heterogeneous news text documents. Hence, the enhanced ED model can organize news documents into distinct events and provide policymakers with valuable information for decision making
