Heterogeneous Power-Splitting Based Two-Way DF Relaying with Non-Linear Energy Harvesting
Simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) has been
recognized as a promising approach to improving the performance of energy
constrained networks. In this paper, we investigate a SWIPT based three-step
two-way decode-and-forward (DF) relay network with a non-linear energy
harvester equipped at the relay. As most existing works require instantaneous
channel state information (CSI) while CSI is not fully utilized when designing
power splitting (PS) schemes, there exists an opportunity for enhancement by
exploiting CSI for PS design. To this end, we propose a novel heterogeneous PS
scheme, where the PS ratios are dynamically changed according to instantaneous
channel gains. In particular, we derive the closed-form expressions of the
optimal PS ratios to maximize the capacity of the investigated network and
analyze the outage probability with the optimal dynamic PS ratios based on the
non-linear energy harvesting (EH) model. The results provide valuable insights
into the effect of various system parameters, such as transmit power of the
source, source transmission rate, and source to relay distance on the
performance of the investigated network. The results show that our proposed PS
scheme outperforms the existing schemes.Comment: This article has been accepted by IEEE GLOBECOM201
On Achievable Rate Regions of the Asymmetric AWGN Two-Way Relay Channel
This paper investigates the additive white Gaussian noise two-way relay
channel, where two users exchange messages through a relay. Asymmetrical
channels are considered where the users can transmit data at different rates
and at different power levels. We modify and improve existing coding schemes to
obtain three new achievable rate regions. Comparing four downlink-optimal
coding schemes, we show that the scheme that gives the best sum-rate
performance is (i) complete-decode-forward, when both users transmit at low
signal-to-noise ratio (SNR); (ii) functional-decode-forward with nested lattice
codes, when both users transmit at high SNR; (iii) functional-decode-forward
with rate splitting and time-division multiplexing, when one user transmits at
low SNR and another user at medium--high SNR.Comment: to be presented at ISIT 201
Capacity Bounds for Two-Hop Interference Networks
This paper considers a two-hop interference network, where two users transmit
independent messages to their respective receivers with the help of two relay
nodes. The transmitters do not have direct links to the receivers; instead, two
relay nodes serve as intermediaries between the transmitters and receivers.
Each hop, one from the transmitters to the relays and the other from the relays
to the receivers, is modeled as a Gaussian interference channel, thus the
network is essentially a cascade of two interference channels. For this
network, achievable symmetric rates for different parameter regimes under
decode-and- forward relaying and amplify-and-forward relaying are proposed and
the corresponding coding schemes are carefully studied. Numerical results are
also provided.Comment: 8 pages, 5 figures, presented in Allerton Conference'0
Outage Analysis for SWIPT-Enabled Two-Way Cognitive Cooperative Communications
In this paper, we study a cooperative cognitive radio network (CCRN) where
the secondary user-transmitter (SU-Tx) assists bi-directional communication
between a pair of primary users (PUs) following the principle of two-way
relaying. In return, it gets access to the spectrum of the PUs to enable its
own transmission to SU-receiver (SU-Rx). Further, in order to support
sustainable operation of the network, SU-Tx is assumed to harvest energy from
the RF signals received from the PUs, using the technique of simultaneous
wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT). Assuming a decode-and-forward
behaviour and power-splitting based relaying protocol at SU-Tx, closed form
expressions for outage probability of PU and SU are obtained. Simulation
results validate our analytical results and illustrate spectrum-efficiency and
energy-efficiency advantages of the proposed system over one-way relaying.Comment: 15 pages, 5 figures, Submitted to IEEE Transactions on Vehicular
