Performance Analysis of Multihop Wireless Links over Generalized-K Fading Channels
The performance of multihop links is studied in this contribution by both analysis and simulations, when communicating over Generalized- () fading channels. The performance metrics considered include symbol error rate (SER), outage probability, level crossing rate (LCR) and average outage duration (AOD). First, the expressions for both the SER and outage probability are derived by approximating the probability density function (PDF) of the end-to-end signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) using an equivalent end-to-end PDF. We show that this equivalent end-to-end PDF is accurate for analyzing the outage probability. Then, the second-order statistics of LCR and AOD of multihop links are analyzed. Finally, the performance of multihop links is investigated either by simulations or by evaluation of the expressions derived. Our performance results show that the analytical expressions obtained can be well justified by the simulation results. The studies show that the channel model as well as the expressions derived in this paper are highly efficient for predicting the performance metrics and statistics for design of multihop communication links
On the macrodiversity reception in the correlated Gamma shadowed Nakagami-m fading
In this paper an analysis of selection combining (SC) macrodiversity reception performed in correlated Gamma shadowing environment will be presented. At each microlevel maximal ratio combining (MRC) with correlated branches is observed, for mitigating effects of Nakagami-m short-time fading. First, novel closed form expressions are derived for second order statistical measures, level crossing rate (LCR) and average fade duration (AFD). Capitalizing on these expressions, the influence of correlation at macrolevel (shadowing correlation) will be analysed through their derivatives. Provided analysis could find application in current macrodiversity system design
Eigenvalue Dynamics of a Central Wishart Matrix with Application to MIMO Systems
We investigate the dynamic behavior of the stationary random process defined
by a central complex Wishart (CW) matrix as it varies along a
certain dimension . We characterize the second-order joint cdf of the
largest eigenvalue, and the second-order joint cdf of the smallest eigenvalue
of this matrix. We show that both cdfs can be expressed in exact closed-form in
terms of a finite number of well-known special functions in the context of
communication theory. As a direct application, we investigate the dynamic
behavior of the parallel channels associated with multiple-input
multiple-output (MIMO) systems in the presence of Rayleigh fading. Studying the
complex random matrix that defines the MIMO channel, we characterize the
second-order joint cdf of the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) for the best and
worst channels. We use these results to study the rate of change of MIMO
parallel channels, using different performance metrics. For a given value of
the MIMO channel correlation coefficient, we observe how the SNR associated
with the best parallel channel changes slower than the SNR of the worst
channel. This different dynamic behavior is much more appreciable when the
number of transmit () and receive () antennas is similar. However, as
is increased while keeping fixed, we see how the best and worst
channels tend to have a similar rate of change.Comment: 15 pages, 9 figures and 1 table. This work has been accepted for

Level Crossing Rate and Average Fade Duration of the Double Nakagami-m Random Process and Application in MIMO Keyhole Fading Channels
We present novel exact expressions and accurate closed-form approximations
for the level crossing rate (LCR) and the average fade duration (AFD) of the
double Nakagami-m random process. These results are then used to study the
second order statistics of multiple input multiple output (MIMO) keyhole fading
channels with space-time block coding. Numerical and computer simulation
examples validate the accuracy of the presented mathematical analysis and show
the tightness of the proposed approximations
