Extension of Petri Nets by Aspects to Apply the Model Driven Architecture Approach
Within MDA models are usually created in the UML. However, one may prefer to\ud
use different notations such as Petri-nets, for example, for modelling concurrency\ud
and synchronization properties of systems. This paper claims that techniques that\ud
are adopted within the context of MDA can also be beneficial in modelling systems\ud
by using notations other than the UML. Petri-Nets are widely used for modelling\ud
of business and application logic of information systems with web services. For\ud
certain kinds of applications, therefore, Petri Nets can be more suitable for building\ud
Computation Independent, Platform Independent and Platform Specific Models\ud
(CIM, PIM and PSM). Unfortunately, the well-known problems with separation of\ud
concerns in Petri Nets and keeping track of changes may hinder achieving the aim of\ud
MDA: building reusable, portable and interoperable models. In this paper we define\ud
Aspect Petri Nets as a structure of several Petri Nets and quantification rules for\ud
weaving of those Petri Nets. Aspect Petri Nets are suitable for application of MDA;\ud
they support traceability of changes and reusability, portability and interoperability\ud
of models. We illustrate advantages of modelling in Aspect Petri Nets for MDA\ud
application and describe necessary tool support
Symbolic Reachability Analysis of B through ProB and LTSmin
We present a symbolic reachability analysis approach for B that can provide a
significant speedup over traditional explicit state model checking. The
symbolic analysis is implemented by linking ProB to LTSmin, a high-performance
language independent model checker. The link is achieved via LTSmin's PINS
interface, allowing ProB to benefit from LTSmin's analysis algorithms, while
only writing a few hundred lines of glue-code, along with a bridge between ProB
and C using ZeroMQ. ProB supports model checking of several formal
specification languages such as B, Event-B, Z and TLA. Our experiments are
based on a wide variety of B-Method and Event-B models to demonstrate the
efficiency of the new link. Among the tested categories are state space
generation and deadlock detection; but action detection and invariant checking
are also feasible in principle. In many cases we observe speedups of several
orders of magnitude. We also compare the results with other approaches for
improving model checking, such as partial order reduction or symmetry
reduction. We thus provide a new scalable, symbolic analysis algorithm for the
B-Method and Event-B, along with a platform to integrate other model checking
improvements via LTSmin in the future
SystemC Model Generation for Realistic Simulation of Networked Embedded Systems
Verification and design-space exploration of today's embedded systems require the simulation of heterogeneous aspects of the system, i.e., software, hardware, communications. This work shows the use of SystemC to simulate a model-driven specification of the behavior of a networked embedded system together with a complete network scenario consisting of the radio channel, the IEEE 802.15.4 protocol for wireless personal area networks and concurrent traffic sharing the medium. The paper describes the main issues addressed to generate SystemC modules from Matlab/Stateflow descriptions and to integrate them in a complete network scenario. Simulation results on a healthcare wireless sensor network show the validity of the approach
Knowledge infrastructures for software service architectures
Software development has become a distributed, collaborative process based on the assembly of off-the-shelf and purpose-built components or services. The selection of software services from service repositories and their integration into software system architectures, but also the development of services for these repositories requires an accessible information infrastructure that allows the description and comparison of these services. General knowledge relating to software development is equally important in this context as knowledge concerning the application domain of the software. Both form two pillars on which the structural and behavioural properties of software services can be addressed. We investigate how this information space for software services can be organized. Focal point are ontologies that, in addition to the usual static view on knowledge, also intrinsically addresses the dynamics, i.e. the behaviour of software. We relate our discussion to the Web context, looking at the Web Services Framework and the Semantic Web as the knowledge representation framework
Automated sequence and motion planning for robotic spatial extrusion of 3D trusses
While robotic spatial extrusion has demonstrated a new and efficient means to
fabricate 3D truss structures in architectural scale, a major challenge remains
in automatically planning extrusion sequence and robotic motion for trusses
with unconstrained topologies. This paper presents the first attempt in the
field to rigorously formulate the extrusion sequence and motion planning (SAMP)
problem, using a CSP encoding. Furthermore, this research proposes a new
hierarchical planning framework to solve the extrusion SAMP problems that
usually have a long planning horizon and 3D configuration complexity. By
decoupling sequence and motion planning, the planning framework is able to
efficiently solve the extrusion sequence, end-effector poses, joint
configurations, and transition trajectories for spatial trusses with
nonstandard topologies. This paper also presents the first detailed computation
data to reveal the runtime bottleneck on solving SAMP problems, which provides
insight and comparing baseline for future algorithmic development. Together
with the algorithmic results, this paper also presents an open-source and
modularized software implementation called Choreo that is machine-agnostic. To
demonstrate the power of this algorithmic framework, three case studies,
