Purcell magneto-elastic swimmer controlled by an external magnetic field
International audienceThis paper focuses on the mechanism of propulsion of a Purcell swimmer whose segments are magnetized and react to an external magnetic field applied into the fluid. By an asymptotic analysis, we prove that it is possible to steer the swimmer along a chosen direction when the control functions are prescribed as an oscillating field. Moreover, we discuss what are the main obstructions to overcome in order to get classical controllability result for this system
New Results on Sampled-Data Feedback Stabilization for Autonomous Nonlinear Systems
Sufficient conditions are established for sampled-data feedback global
asymptotic stabilization for nonlinear autonomous systems. One of our main
results is an extension of the well known Artstein-Sontag theorem on feedback
stabilization concerning affine in the control systems. A second aim of the
present work is to provide sufficient conditions for sampled-data feedback
asymptotic stabilization for two interconnected nonlinear systems. Lie
algebraic sufficient conditions are derived for the case of affine in the
control interconnected systems without drift terms.Comment: 16 page
Stability and controllability of planar bimodal linear complementarity systems
The object of study of this paper is the class of hybrid systems consisting of so-called linear complementarity (LC) systems, that received a lot of attention recently and has strong connections to piecewise affine (PWA) systems. In addition to PWA systems, some of the linear or affine submodels of the LC systems can ‘live’ at lower-dimensional subspaces and re-initializations of the state variable at mode changes is possible. For LC systems we study the stability and controllability problem. Although these problems received for various classes of hybrid systems ample attention, necessary and sufficient conditions, which are explicit and easily verifiable, are hardly found in the literature. For LC systems with two modes and a state dimension of two such conditions are presented
Control and stabilization of systems with homoclinic orbits
In this paper we consider the control of two physical systems, the near wall region of a turbulent boundary layer and the rigid body, using techniques from the theory of nonlinear dynamical systems. Both these systems have saddle points linked by heteroclinic orbits. In the fluid system we show how the structure of the phase space can be used to keep the system near an (unstable) saddle. For the rigid body system we discuss passage along the orbit as a possible control manouver, and show how the Energy-Casimir method can be used to analyze stabilization of the system about the saddles

Controllability, Observability, and Stability of Mathematical Models
International audienceThis article presents an overview of three fundamental concepts in Mathematical System Theory: controllability, stability and observability. These properties play a prominent role in the study of mathematical models and in the understanding of their behavior. They constitute the main research subject in Control Theory. Historically the tools and techniques of Automatic Control have been developed for artificial engineering systems but nowadays they are more and more applied to "natural systems". The main objective of this article is to show how these tools can be helpful to model and to control a wide variety of natural systems
