Flexible resource allocation for joint optimization of energy and spectral efficiency in OFDMA multi-cell networks
The radio resource allocation problem is studied, aiming to jointly optimize the energy efficiency (EE) and spectral efficiency (SE) of downlink OFDMA multi-cell networks. Different from existing works on either EE or SE optimization, a novel EE-SE tradeoff (EST) metric, which can capture both the EST relation and the individual cells’ preferences for EE or SE performance, is introduced as the utility function for each base station (BS). Then the joint EE-SE optimization problem is formulated, and an iterative subchannel allocation and power allocation algorithm is proposed. Numerical results show that the proposed algorithm can exploit the EST relation flexibly and optimize the EE and SE simultaneously to meet diverse EE and SE preferences of individual cells.<br/
Energy-Aware Wireless Relay Selection in Load-Coupled OFDMA Cellular Networks
We investigate transmission energy minimization via optimizing wireless relay
selection in orthogonal-frequency-division multiple access (OFDMA) networks. We
take into account the impact of the load of cells on transmission energy. We
prove the NP-hardness of the energy-aware wireless relay selection problem. To
tackle the computational complexity, a partial optimality condition is derived
for providing insights in respect of designing an effective and efficient
algorithm. Numerical results show that the resulting algorithm achieves high
energy performance.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figure
Adaptive Multi-objective Optimization for Energy Efficient Interference Coordination in Multi-Cell Networks
In this paper, we investigate the distributed power allocation for multi-cell
OFDMA networks taking both energy efficiency and inter-cell interference (ICI)
mitigation into account. A performance metric termed as throughput contribution
is exploited to measure how ICI is effectively coordinated. To achieve a
distributed power allocation scheme for each base station (BS), the throughput
contribution of each BS to the network is first given based on a pricing
mechanism. Different from existing works, a biobjective problem is formulated
based on multi-objective optimization theory, which aims at maximizing the
throughput contribution of the BS to the network and minimizing its total power
consumption at the same time. Using the method of Pascoletti and Serafini
scalarization, the relationship between the varying parameters and minimal
solutions is revealed. Furthermore, to exploit the relationship an algorithm is
proposed based on which all the solutions on the boundary of the efficient set
can be achieved by adaptively adjusting the involved parameters. With the
obtained solution set, the decision maker has more choices on power allocation
schemes in terms of both energy consumption and throughput. Finally, the
performance of the algorithm is assessed by the simulation results.Comment: 29 page
