The Norman Site: Descriptions
The Norman site (34WG2) lay on a terrace on the west side of the Neosho (Grand) River in Wagoner County, Oklahoma. Throughout much of its course within Oklahoma, this river flows along the western boundary of the Ozark Uplift. East of the river, the limestones, shales, and sandstones deposited during the Upper Mississippian and Pennsylvanian geological periods form the Boston Mountains and the Springfield Plateau. Several of these formations contain knappable cherts, often of good quality. West of the river, the Mississippian and Pennsylvanian deposits thin and dip under the surface to form the Prairie Plains Province, characterized by low, east-facing escarpments. Sandstone and shale bedrocks underlie the Prairie-Plains Province. The streams flowing eastward across these are muddy and sluggish
Putting Iterative Proportional Fitting on the researcher’s desk
‘Iterative Proportional Fitting’ (IPF) is a mathematical procedure originally developed to combine the information from two or more datasets. IPF is a well-established technique with the theoretical and practical considerations behind the method thoroughly explored and reported.
In this paper the theory of IPF is investigated with a mathematical definition of the procedure and a review of the relevant literature given. So that IPF can be readily accessible to researchers the procedure has been automated in Visual Basic and a description of the program and a ‘User Guide’ are provided.
IPF is employed in various disciplines but has been particularly useful in census-related analysis to provide updated population statistics and to estimate individual-level attribute characteristics. To illustrate the practical application of IPF various case studies are described. In the future, demand for individual-level data is thought likely to increase and it is believed that the IPF procedure and Visual Basic program have the potential to facilitate research in geography and other disciplines

Wilbur Norman Christiansen 1913-2007
W. N. ('Chris') Christiansen was an innovative and influential radio
astronomy pioneer. The hallmarks of his long and distinguished career in
science and engineering, spanning almost five decades, were his inventiveness
and his commitment to, and success with, large-scale projects. These projects
were the outcome of his innovative skill as physicist and engineer. Paralleling
this was his equal commitment to forging strong international links and
friendships, leading to his election as Vice-President of the International
Astronomical Union for the years 1964 to 1970, as President of the
International Union of Radio Science, URSI, from 1978 to 1981, and subsequently
as Honorary Life President in 1984, and as Foreign Secretary of the Australian
Academy of Science from 1981 to 1985. Major subsequent developments in radio
astronomy and wireless communications on the global scene stand as a legacy to
Chris's approach to his work and to the development of those who worked with
him.Comment: 16 pages, 4 figure
