    A system-level multiprocessor system-on-chip modeling framework

    We present a system-level modeling framework to model system-on-chips (SoC) consisting of heterogeneous multiprocessors and network-on-chip communication structures in order to enable the developers of today's SoC designs to take advantage of the flexibility and scalability of network-on-chip and rapidly explore high-level design alternatives to meet their system requirements. We present a modeling approach for developing high-level performance models for these SoC designs and outline how this system-level performance analysis capability can be integrated into an overall environment for efficient SoC design. We show how a hand-held multimedia terminal, consisting of JPEG, MP3 and GSM applications, can be modeled as a multiprocessor SoC in our framework

    Radiation safety based on the sky shine effect in reactor

    In the reactor operation, neutrons and gamma rays are the most dominant radiation. As protection, lead and concrete shields are built around the reactor. However, the radiation can penetrate the water shielding inside the reactor pool. This incident leads to the occurrence of sky shine where a physical phenomenon of nuclear radiation sources was transmitted panoramic that extends to the environment. The effect of this phenomenon is caused by the fallout radiation into the surrounding area which causes the radiation dose to increase. High doses of exposure cause a person to have stochastic effects or deterministic effects. Therefore, this study was conducted to measure the radiation dose from sky shine effect that scattered around the reactor at different distances and different height above the reactor platform.     Mapping and Scheduling in Heterogeneous NoC through Population-Based Incremental Learning

    ABSTRACT: Network-on-Chip (NoC) is a growing and promising communication paradigm for Multiprocessor-System-On-Chip (MPSoC) design, because of its scalability and performance features. In designing such systems, mapping and scheduling are becoming critical stages, because of the increase of both size of the network and application’s complexity. Some reported solutions solve each issue independently. However, a conjoint approach for solving mapping and scheduling allows to take into account both computation and communication objectives simultaneously. This paper shows a mapping and scheduling solution, which is based on a Population-Based Incremental Learning (PBIL) algorithm. The simulation results suggest that our PBIL approach is able to find optimal mapping and scheduling, in a multi-objective fashion. A 2-D heterogeneous mesh was used as target architecture for implementation, although the PBIL representation is suited to deal with more complex architectures, such as 3-D meshes

    Recently, Cognitive Radio has been proposed as a promising technology to improve spectrum utilization. A highly flexible OFDM system is considered to be a good candidate for the Cognitive Radio baseband processing where individual carriers can be switched off for frequencies occupied by a licensed user. In order to support such an adaptive OFDM system, we propose a Multiprocessor System-on-Chip (MPSoC) architecture which can be dynamically reconfigured. However, the complexity and flexibility of the baseband processing makes the MPSoC design a difficult task. Therefore, to increase performance, computer architects have decided to use multiprocessors. Moreover, recent studies have shown that heterogeneous chip multiprocessors have greater potential than homogeneous ones.     Evaluating Cache Coherent Shared Virtual Memory for Heterogeneous Multicore Chips

    The trend in industry is towards heterogeneous multicore processors (HMCs), including chips with CPUs and massively-threaded throughput-oriented processors (MTTOPs) such as GPUs. Although current homogeneous chips tightly couple the cores with cache-coherent shared virtual memory (CCSVM), this is not the communication paradigm used by any current HMC. In this paper, we present a CCSVM design for a CPU/MTTOP chip, as well as an extension of the pthreads programming model, called xthreads, for programming this HMC.     A case study for NoC based homogeneous MPSoC architectures

    The many-core design paradigm requires flexible and modular hardware and software components to provide the required scalability to next-generation on-chip multiprocessor architectures. A multidisciplinary approach is necessary to consider all the interactions between the different components of the design. In this paper, a complete design methodology that tackles at once the aspects of system level modeling, hardware architecture, and programming model has been successfully used for the implementation of a multiprocessor network-on-chip (NoC)-based system, the NoCRay graphic accelerator. The design, based on 16 processors, after prototyping with field-programmable gate array (FPGA), has been laid out in 90-nm technology. Post-layout results show very low power, area, as well as 500 MHz of clock frequency. Results show that an array of small and simple processors outperform a single high-end general purpose processo
