Multi-agent evolutionary systems for the generation of complex virtual worlds
Modern films, games and virtual reality applications are dependent on
convincing computer graphics. Highly complex models are a requirement for the
successful delivery of many scenes and environments. While workflows such as
rendering, compositing and animation have been streamlined to accommodate
increasing demands, modelling complex models is still a laborious task. This
paper introduces the computational benefits of an Interactive Genetic Algorithm
(IGA) to computer graphics modelling while compensating the effects of user
fatigue, a common issue with Interactive Evolutionary Computation. An
intelligent agent is used in conjunction with an IGA that offers the potential
to reduce the effects of user fatigue by learning from the choices made by the
human designer and directing the search accordingly. This workflow accelerates
the layout and distribution of basic elements to form complex models. It
captures the designer's intent through interaction, and encourages playful
discovery
Balancing Selection Pressures, Multiple Objectives, and Neural Modularity to Coevolve Cooperative Agent Behavior
Previous research using evolutionary computation in Multi-Agent Systems
indicates that assigning fitness based on team vs.\ individual behavior has a
strong impact on the ability of evolved teams of artificial agents to exhibit
teamwork in challenging tasks. However, such research only made use of
single-objective evolution. In contrast, when a multiobjective evolutionary
algorithm is used, populations can be subject to individual-level objectives,
team-level objectives, or combinations of the two. This paper explores the
performance of cooperatively coevolved teams of agents controlled by artificial
neural networks subject to these types of objectives. Specifically, predator
agents are evolved to capture scripted prey agents in a torus-shaped grid
world. Because of the tension between individual and team behaviors, multiple
modes of behavior can be useful, and thus the effect of modular neural networks
is also explored. Results demonstrate that fitness rewarding individual
behavior is superior to fitness rewarding team behavior, despite being applied
to a cooperative task. However, the use of networks with multiple modules
allows predators to discover intelligent behavior, regardless of which type of
objectives are used
Landscape in the Economy of Conspicuous Consumptions \ud
Psychological states side by side with the bounded rational expectations among social agents contributes to the pattern of consumptions in economic system. One of the psychological states are the envy – a tendency to emulate any gaps with other agents’ properties. The evolutionary game theoretic works on conspicuous consumption are explored by growing the micro-view of economic agency in lattice-based populations, the landscape of consumptions. The emerged macro-view of multiple equilibria is shown in computational simulative demonstrations altogether with the spatial clustered agents based upon the emerged agents’ economic profiles
Multi-agent knowledge integration mechanism using particle swarm optimization

Copyright @ 2011 Elsevier B.V.Unstructured group decision-making is burdened with several central difficulties: unifying the knowledge of multiple experts in an unbiased manner and computational inefficiencies. In addition, a proper means of storing such unified knowledge for later use has not yet been established. Storage difficulties stem from of the integration of the logic underlying multiple experts' decision-making processes and the structured quantification of the impact of each opinion on the final product. To address these difficulties, this paper proposes a novel approach called the multiple agent-based knowledge integration mechanism (MAKIM), in which a fuzzy cognitive map (FCM) is used as a knowledge representation and storage vehicle. In this approach, we use particle swarm optimization (PSO) to adjust causal relationships and causality coefficients from the perspective of global optimization. Once an optimized FCM is constructed an agent based model (ABM) is applied to the inference of the FCM to solve real world problem. The final aggregate knowledge is stored in FCM form and is used to produce proper inference results for other target problems. To test the validity of our approach, we applied MAKIM to a real-world group decision-making problem, an IT project risk assessment, and found MAKIM to be statistically robust.Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (Korea
