Evolving temporal fuzzy association rules from quantitative data with a multi-objective evolutionary algorithm

    Get PDF
A novel method for mining association rules that are both quantitative and temporal using a multi-objective evolutionary algorithm is presented. This method successfully identifies numerous temporal association rules that occur more frequently in areas of a dataset with specific quantitative values represented with fuzzy sets. The novelty of this research lies in exploring the composition of quantitative and temporal fuzzy association rules and the approach of using a hybridisation of a multi-objective evolutionary algorithm with fuzzy sets. Results show the ability of a multi-objective evolutionary algorithm (NSGA-II) to evolve multiple target itemsets that have been augmented into synthetic datasets

CAMUR: Knowledge extraction from RNA-seq cancer data through equivalent classification rules

    Get PDF
Nowadays, knowledge extraction methods from Next Generation Sequencing data are highly requested. In this work, we focus on RNA-seq gene expression analysis and specifically on case-control studies with rule-based supervised classification algorithms that build a model able to discriminate cases from controls. State of the art algorithms compute a single classification model that contains few features (genes). On the contrary, our goal is to elicit a higher amount of knowledge by computing many classification models, and therefore to identify most of the genes related to the predicted class

Multiobjective Evolutionary Induction of Subgroup Discovery Fuzzy Rules: A Case Study in Marketing

    Get PDF
This paper presents a multiobjective genetic algorithm which obtains fuzzy rules for subgroup discovery in disjunctive normal form. This kind of fuzzy rules lets us represent knowledge about patterns of interest in an explanatory and understandable form which can be used by the expert. The evolutionary algorithm follows a multiobjective approach in order to optimize in a suitable way the different quality measures used in this kind of problems. Experimental evaluation of the algorithm, applying it to a market problem studied in the University of Mondragón (Spain), shows the validity of the proposal. The application of the proposal to this problem allows us to obtain novel and valuable knowledge for the experts.Spanish Ministry of Science and TechnologyFEDER TIC-2005-08386-C05-01 and TIC-2005- 08386-C05-03TIN2004-20061-E and TIN2004-21343-

Bibliometric Mapping of the Computational Intelligence Field

In this paper, a bibliometric study of the computational intelligence field is presented. Bibliometric maps showing the associations between the main concepts in the field are provided for the periods 1996–2000 and 2001–2005. Both the current structure of the field and the evolution of the field over the last decade are analyzed. In addition, a number of emerging areas in the field are identified. It turns out that computational intelligence can best be seen as a field that is structured around four important types of problems, namely control problems, classification problems, regression problems, and optimization problems. Within the computational intelligence field, the neural networks and fuzzy systems subfields are fairly intertwined, whereas the evolutionary computation subfield has a relatively independent position.neural networks;bibliometric mapping;fuzzy systems;bibliometrics;computational intelligence;evolutionary computation

MISSEL: a method to identify a large number of small species-specific genomic subsequences and its application to viruses classification

    Get PDF
Continuous improvements in next generation sequencing technologies led to ever-increasing collections of genomic sequences, which have not been easily characterized by biologists, and whose analysis requires huge computational effort. The classification of species emerged as one of the main applications of DNA analysis and has been addressed with several approaches, e.g., multiple alignments-, phylogenetic trees-, statistical- and character-based methods
