A novel enhanced connection of AC/AC powertrain for HEV - modelling and simulation results
The paper deals with a novel enhanced connection of AC/AC powertrain for Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV). The substantial contribution of such a connection is the absence of 4QC auxiliary converter needed for autonomous and hybrid operational modes and its compensation by power-lesser 0x5 matrix converter. The main advantages of a simplified connection are, beside smaller auxiliary converter sizing, also possible better efficiency of the HEV powertrain. So, powertrain operation in autonomous traction accu-battery modes uses direct 0x5 configuration of traction 3x5 MxC matrix converter, and in hybrid modes of Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) and accu-battery uses besides traction 3x5 MxC matrix converter the auxiliary 0x5 matrix converter. Modeling and simulation using Matlab-Simulink environment of traction powertrain configuration in autonomous modes are presented in the paper as well as all simulation experiment result
Poles and zeros of the scattering matrix associated to defect modes
We analyze electromagnetic waves propagation in one-dimensional periodic
media with single or periodic defects. The study is made both from the point of
view of the modes and of the diffraction problem. We provide an explicit
dispersion equation for the numerical calculation of the modes, and we
establish a connection between modes and poles and zeros of the scattering
matrix.Comment: 6 pages (Revtex), no figure
4D Higher Spin Black Holes with Nonlinear Scalar Fluctuations
We construct an infinite-dimensional space of solutions to Vasiliev's
equations in four dimensions that are asymptotic to AdS spacetime and superpose
massless scalar particle modes over static higher spin black holes. Each
solution is obtained by a large gauge transformation of an all-order
perturbatively defined particular solution given in a simple gauge, in which
the spacetime connection vanishes, the twistor space connection is holomorphic,
and all local degrees of freedom are encoded into the residual twistor space
dependence of the spacetime zero-forms. The latter are expanded over two dual
spaces of Fock space operators, corresponding to scalar particle and static
black hole modes, equipped with positive definite sesquilinear and bilinear
forms, respectively. Switching on an AdS vacuum gauge function, the twistor
space connection becomes analytic at generic spacetime points, which makes it
possible to reach Vasiliev's gauge, in which Fronsdal fields arise
asymptotically, by another large transformation given here at first order. The
particle and black hole modes are related by a twistor space Fourier transform,
resulting in a black hole backreaction already at the second order of classical
perturbation theory. We speculate on the existence of a fine-tuned branch of
moduli space that is free from black hole modes and directly related to the
quasi-local deformed Fronsdal theory. Finally, we comment on a possible
interpretation of the higher spin black hole solutions as black-hole
microstates.Comment: 63 pages + appendices; v2: reference added; v3: comments and

Modal makeup of transmission eigenchannels
Transmission eigenchannels and quasi-normal modes are powerful bases for
describing wave transport and controlling transmission and energy storage in
disordered media. Here we elucidate the connection between these approaches by
expressing the transmission matrix (TM) at a particular frequency as a sum of
TMs for individual modes drawn from a broad spectral range. The wide range of
transmission eigenvalues and correlation frequencies of eigenchannels of
transmission is explained by the increasingly off-resonant excitation of modes
contributing to eigenchannels with decreasing transmission and by the phasing
between these contributions
The contracts between leading agribusiness enterprises and rural households: its effects on firm-level export of agricultural products
In this paper, transaction cost is introduced into the general firm-level export behavior model. By so doing, we build a theoretical model explaining how connection modes between leading agribusiness enterprises and rural households affect the firm-level agricultural products export. Analyzing the dataset of 561 national leading agribusinesses of the year 2003, we use Tobit model to estimate the firm-level export effect of the connection modes. The empirical result demonstrates that connections in the mode of stock-cooperation or cooperation contracts have a significant positive effect on the enterprises export and export ratio. In addition, the connection with more characteristics of factor contract has stronger effect on export than that with commodity contract characteristics.Contracts; Agribusiness; Rural Households; Firm-level; Export
Continuum elastic sphere vibrations as a model for low-lying optical modes in icosahedral quasicrystals
The nearly dispersionless, so-called "optical" vibrational modes observed by
inelastic neutron scattering from icosahedral Al-Pd-Mn and Zn-Mg-Y
quasicrystals are found to correspond well to modes of a continuum elastic
sphere that has the same diameter as the corresponding icosahedral basic units
of the quasicrystal. When the sphere is considered as free, most of the
experimentally found modes can be accounted for, in both systems. Taking into
account the mechanical connection between the clusters and the remainder of the
quasicrystal allows a complete assignment of all optical modes in the case of
Al-Pd-Mn. This approach provides support to the relevance of clusters in the
vibrational properties of quasicrystals.Comment: 9 pages without figure
"The Place of Cultural Explanations and Historical Specificity in Discussions of Modes of Incorporation and Segmented Assimilation"
This paper serves as an opportunity to pull together some thoughts and questions about modes of incorporation as an explanation for ethnic differences in behavior. Specifically, I ask just what is the status of cultural explanations for ethnic behavior if ethnic behavior is approaches from a modes-of-incorporation perspective. I ask this question both in connection with individuals of the immigrant generation as well as in connection with the second generation; the concern with the second generation leads me to consider the status of cultural explanations for ethnic behavior in connection with the related conception of segmented assimilation. My argument proceeds through four steps. (1) I note that the modes are introduced as a way out of being left with a large ethnic residual (or unexplained difference) from individual-level analysis and as one more way of contradicting the claim that the residual reflects the operation of independent cultural differences among groups. (2) I stress how far we can push the corollary that living in different modes can effect not only the structural opportunities available to a person but also the attitudes, values, and outlooks common in people from different groups. (3) I also stress the possibility that many specifics of an immigrant group's historical experiences are not captures by the modes of incorporation (as would be true of any typology), and that such historical specifics ignore by the typology might matter a great deal. Moreover, such historically specific features may involve cultural characteristics as well as other characteristics, cultural characteristics related not at all or only tangentially to the aspects of experience discussed in the typology of the modes. (4) A big question, from this perspective, then, is: how well do the modes in fact explain the residual ethnic differences unexplained by the individual-level variables? And how do we answer that question empirically?
