Image analysis of a tourist destination: Malaga, Spain
The destination image is multidimensional in nature and the knowledge the individuals have of the destination and also their personal traits and opinions play an important role in it. Therefore, it is a complex construction in which the different information sources are decisive. Thus, the destination image plays a key role in both marketing and tourism location.
The city of Malaga, located in Southern Spain, lies on the Costa del Sol (Coast of the Sun), a tourist area largely identified with seaside tourism. In recent years Malaga city has been trying to distance itself from the “sun and sand” tourism segment and it has chosen to position itself as a cultural destination (Diario Sur, 2014; The New York Times, 2015). In this regard, the effectiveness of the image of Malaga differentiated from a seaside destination image is analysed in the present study.
The main objective of this research is to perform an analysis of the current image of the city and of the target one. A detailed study of the obtained results will enable us to take a close look at the tourists’ attitudes towards Malaga city and it will provide us with information to improve or design new differentiation strategies. This is the first academic study on Malaga’s destination image.
Malaga is a Spanish municipality in Andalusia and it is located, as already mentioned, in the Costa del Sol, beside the Mediterranean Sea. The city had 566,913 inhabitants (2014) and an accommodation supply of 9,598 bed places and nearly one million of tourists (2013). We decided to focus the research on Malaga city, on the Costal del Sol, Spain, a traditionally touristic place which in the recent years is trying to specialize in urban and cultural tourismUniversidad de Málaga, Campus de Excelencia Internacional AndalucĂa Tech2018-01-0
Inmigrantes argentinos en España: acomodación fonética, morfológica y léxica a la variedad de la ciudad de Málaga
The aim of this project is to establish the sociolinguistic accommodation of an Argentinean-speaking community distinguishing between: a) young immigrants (n = 12), and b) adult Argentinean immigrants (n = 12) in the city of Malaga, Spain. We will compare the accommodation of these two groups in order to determine if there are differences that could be related to age, gender, time of residence in the city of Malaga, etc.Universidad de Málaga. Teachers’ satisfaction as indicator of education system performance
We investigate the potential trade-off between some teacher characteristics, particularly teachers’ satisfaction, and different measures of pupils’ performance, in order to optimize the outputs of the Spanish education system. Our contribution to the existing literature is twofold: on the one hand, we provide estimates on the balance between teachers’ effectiveness and 4th grade students’ performance in Spain, by using recent survey data (TIMSS, 2011); on the other hand we implement a novel methodology which allows optimizing simultaneously a set of indicators on the outputs of the educational system. These analyses provide empirical evidence of the importance of investing in teacher satisfaction as a motivation mechanism for improving national educational achievement.Universidad de Málaga. Destination image, satisfaction and destination and loyalty in cruise tourism: the case of Málaga (Spain)
Over the past decades cruise tourism is a sector that has experienced a tremendous growth around the globe. The relations that are established between the different agents that interact in this industry, passengers, crew and residents are crucial for visitor satisfaction and the success of the tourist destination.
The study has analyzed the different types of cruise passengers who landed at the port of Malaga and their perception of the city through destination image, satisfaction and destination loyalty.
A cluster analysis identified the existence of four different groups of passengers whose opinions can give a specific answer to the consolidation of Malaga as a quality tourist destination.
From a practical point of view, recommendations about the adequate management of the destination´s attractions for the cruise industry are discussed in the conclusions.Universidad de Málaga. Campus de Excelencia Internacional AndalucĂa Tec
Qualitative Supervision of Naval Diesel Engine Turbocharger Systems
FAC Intelligent Components and Instruments for Control Applications, Malaga, Spain, 1992This paper presents a qualitative model the diesel engine turbocharger system of a ship. The paper also shows how qualitative models can be use for an intelligent monitoring of the process concerned
Experimental and analytical study of cracks under biaxial fatigue
Most mechanical components experience multi-axial cyclic loading conditions during service.
Experimental analysis of fatigue cracks under such conditions is not easy and most works tend to focus more
on the simpler but less realistic case of uni-axial loading. Consequently, there are many uncertainties related to
the load sequence effect that are now well known and are not normally incorporated into the growth models.
The current work presents a new methodology for evaluating overload effect in biaxial fatigue cracks. The
methodology includes evaluation of mixed-mode (KI and KII) stress intensity factor and the Crack Opening
Displacement for samples with and without overload cycle under biaxial loading. The methodology is tested
under a range of crack lengths. All crack-tip information is obtained with a hybrid methodology that combines
experimental full-field digital image correlation data and Williams' elastic model describing the crack-tip field.Universidad de Málaga. Campus de Excelencia Internacional AndalucĂa Tech
Development and implantation of a Thesaurus of Manufacturing Engineering terms
Present work shows the teaching-learning experience developed in the Department of Manufacturing Engineering of the University of Malaga. This experience is based on the need to generate a specific glossary of manufacturing engineering terms to be used as a study guide by the students. Eventually, it was decided to make a Thesaurus that would be aimed at a teaching activity. Also, it would take part in the educational innovation project PIE 13-025 of the University of Malaga, within the biennium 2013/2015. The first step consisted of the design of Thesaurus pattern, taking into account the kind of information that it was necessary include in it. Afterward, this pattern would be place on the Virtual Campus and the student would have to complete the information required. Finally, the results obtained in the different applications of this activity would be analyzed and evaluated.Universidad de Málaga. Campus de Excelencia Internacional AndalucĂa Tech
Grain Sorghum International Trade: U.S.-Mexico Simulation and Estimation Model
An econometric international supply/demand/trade simulation and forecast sorghum model in a partial equilibrium framework is built in this research paper to quantify the effects of key exogenous variables on the U.S.-Mexico sorghum trade. A forecast baseline is also established by using the validated model and values of exogenous variables provided by FAPRI to project the level of endogenous variables over the period of 2009 to 2017. Impacts of plausible alternative scenarios for key exogenous variables are simulated from 2009 to 2017.Sorghum, International Trade, Simulation, Estimation, International Relations/Trade,
