Designing Enterprise Resources Planning Application for Integrating Main Activities in a Simulator Model of SCM Network Distribution
Collaborative supply chain is a specific topic in supply chain management and studied by
industrial engineering students in supply chain management course. Unfortunately, conventional
learning media cannot explain the phenomenon of collaborative supply chain to the students. This study
aimed to design a dynamic learning media so that inter-company collaboration and information sharing
on the activities of Supply Chain entities can be explained effectively to the students. The problem was
solved using 3 (three) steps. First, the distribution network was described using mock up. It consists of
miniature trucks, miniature network and miniature of the manufacturer-distributor-retailer embedded
with tag and reader of RFID. Second, the Enterprise Resources Planning application was developed for
supporting business activities. Third, we developed the integrator consists of monitor’s user interface
and practice modules. The result of the research - an SCM-Simulator – will be able to improve learning
skills of industrial engineering graduates, especially abilities to identify, formulate, and solve the
activities of tactical plan & operational routines of Supply Chain entities. However, distribution module
designed is for limited scale laboratory study of simple objects.

A Conceptual Framework of Reverse Logistics Impact on Firm Performance
This study aims to examine the reverse logistics factors that impact upon firm performance. We review reverse logistics factors under three research streams: (a) resource-based view of the firm, including: Firm strategy, Operations management, and Customer loyalty (b) relational theory, including: Supply chain efficiency, Supply chain collaboration, and institutional theory, including: Government support and Cultural alignment. We measured firm performance with 5 measures: profitability, cost, innovativeness, perceived competitive advantage, and perceived customer satisfaction. Sustainable product development strategies: Business planning and performance implications

The final published article is available from the link below.Manufacturing firms are under many financial and competitive pressures which focus attention on the performance of their manufacturing processes. In this paper the opportunities for improving the environmental impact of products within the constraints of existing manufacturing infrastructure are examined. Approaches which support sustainability in two aspects are proposed, firstly, the provision of products to the users in ways which extend the product life and secondly, manufacturing approaches which reduce resource usage. This paper outlines three different sustainable development strategies for different product types and describes the cost implications for manufacturers across the life-cycle. The performance measures affected by these strategies are examined drawing on product development case studies from a number of high technology sectors to highlight the different approaches taken. The results are intended to aid manufacturers during the earliest stages of business planning to consider alternative product development approaches which are more sustainable
Intelligent Products: Shifting the Production Control Logic in Construction (With Lean and BIM)
Production management and control in construction has not been addressed/updated ever since the introduction of Critical Path Method and the Last Planner® system. The predominant outside-in control logic and a fragmented and deep supply chain in construction significantly affect the efficiency over a lifecycle. In a construction project, a large number of organisations interact with the product throughout the process, requiring a significant amount of information handling and synchronisation between these organisations. However, due to the deep supply chains and problems with lack of information integration, the information flow down across the lifecycle poses a significant challenge. This research proposes a product centric system, where the control logic of the production process is embedded within the individual components from the design phase. The solution is enabled by a number of technologies and tools such as Building Information Modelling, Internet of Things, Messaging Systems and within the conceptual process framework of Lean Construction. The vision encompasses the lifecycle of projects from design to construction and maintenance, where the products can interact with the environment and its actors through various stages supporting a variety of actions. Using ERP as a basis for Enterprise application integration
Architecting and implementing e-Business supply chain solutions across and within the modern day enterprise, is now becoming a necessity in order to maintain competitive and be adaptable to market needs. As such, the integration of information and processes is a vital step, using technologies such as using Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Supply Chain Management (SCM) and enterprise portal platforms. The effective sharing of resource planning and other enterprise related data across and within the enterprise is typically seen as a facet of a business to business (B2B) platform. However, such infrastructures typically involve a tight integration across intra and inter-organisational systems. This paper examines an Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) initiative taken by a global manufacturer of industrial automation products, which attempted to utilise ERP as an integration tool across its internal B2B infrastructure, to achieve such an aim. This paper discusses those integration considerations and complexities, experienced by the case company upon embarking on an EAI integration programme through the adoption of a core ERP as a catalyst for organizational change. In doing so the authors present an analysis of the inherent risks and limitations of this approach in terms of previously published literature in the field, relating to technology-driven organizational change and EAI impact and adoption frameworks
Improving supply chain management in construction: what can be learned from the aerospace industry?
In order to provide for controllable delivery, reliable lead times and efficient customer response, lean manufacturing and platform assembly practices play an important role in supply chains in the aerospace industry. The adoption of lean manufacturing practices ensures an efficient delivery of products to the market. Benefits from the development of platform strategies are a more reliable materials supply and an improved logistics control. The aerospace industry is characterized by a small number of major global players and many small ones. A major part of the design and production has been contracted out to suppliers. In this paper the basic similarities and differences between the construction and aerospace industry and supply chains are analysed. A comparative study of aerospace and construction supply chains is presented to indicate and discuss the applicability of supply chain management concepts to construction, and the improvement potential of these concepts regarding supply chain management in construction. It is concluded that in particular the practice of platform assembly is a fruitful concept to be applied in the construction industry
Designing Information System To Support Business Process Improvement In A Small-Mid Size Bottled Drinking Water Industry
Due to inefficiencies of the business processes in small-mid size of bottled drinking water industries,
it is necessary to improve them. The improvements are carried out in business processes of production,
warehouse, delivery, marketing, and finance departments. The main causes of the inefficiencies are the
inefficiencies of the business process itself and that the business processes of those departments were not
integrated. This paper is concerned with designing information system to support for the integration of those
departments. First, we mapped the business process of each department using flow diagram. Then analyze the
inefficiencies of each department. Next, we redesign the business processes and standardize them. The next step
is integrating the business processes by designing the information system. We design the information system
modular. The modules are marketing module, production module, logistic module and finance module. Data
Flow Diagram (DFD) is used to model the system. Relational database management system (RDBMS) is used
to design the database. User interfaces are built to ease in using the program application. The outputs of the
information system are reports and documents in monitor screen view and in printing. The validation showed
that the information system designed can support the business process improvements.
