A Finslerian version of 't Hooft Deterministic Quantum Models
Using the Finsler structure living in the phase space associated to the
tangent bundle of the configuration manifold, deterministic models at the
Planck scale are obtained. The Hamiltonian function are constructed directly
from the geometric data and some assumptions concerning time inversion
symmetry. The existence of a maximal acceleration and speed is proved for
Finslerian deterministic models. We investigate the spontaneous symmetry
breaking of the orthogonal symmetry SO(6N) of the Hamiltonian of a
deterministic system. This symmetry break implies the non-validity of the
argument used to obtain Bell's inequalities for spin states. It is introduced
and motivated in the context of Randers spaces an example of simple 't Hooft
model with interactions.Comment: 25 pages; no figures. String discussion deleted. Some minor change
Quantum gravity: unification of principles and interactions, and promises of spectral geometry
Quantum gravity was born as that branch of modern theoretical physics that
tries to unify its guiding principles, i.e., quantum mechanics and general
relativity. Nowadays it is providing new insight into the unification of all
fundamental interactions, while giving rise to new developments in modern
mathematics. It is however unclear whether it will ever become a falsifiable
physical theory, since it deals with Planck-scale physics. Reviewing a wide
range of spectral geometry from index theory to spectral triples, we hope to
dismiss the general opinion that the mere mathematical complexity of the
unification programme will obstruct that programme.Comment: This is a contribution to the Proceedings of the 2007 Midwest

On route table computation strategies in Delay-Tolerant Satellite Networks
Delay-Tolerant Networking (DTN) has been proposed for satellite networks with no expectation of continuous or instantaneous end-to-end connectivity, which are known as Delay-Tolerant Satellite Networks (DTSNs). Path computation over large and highly-dynamic yet predictable topologies of such networks requires complex algorithms such as Contact Graph Routing (CGR) to calculate route tables, which can become extremely large and limit forwarding performance if all possible routes are considered. In this work, we discuss these issues in the context of CGR and propose alternatives to the existing route computation scheme: first-ending, first-depleted, one-route, and per-neighbor strategies. Simulation results over realistic DTSN constellation scenarios show that network flow metrics and overall calculation effort can be significantly improved by adopting these novel route table computation strategies.Fil: Fraire, Juan Andres. Performance Evaluation - Annual Report Year 3
This report describes the work done and results obtained in third year of the CATNETS project. Experiments carried out with the different configurations of the prototype are reported and simulation results are evaluated with the CATNETS metrics framework. The applicability of the Catallactic approach as market model for service and resource allocation in application layer networks is assessed based on the results and experience gained both from the prototype development and simulations. --Grid Computing
Comets in Australian Aboriginal Astronomy
We present 25 accounts of comets from 40 Australian Aboriginal communities,
citing both supernatural perceptions of comets and historical accounts of
bright comets. Historical and ethnographic descriptions include the Great
Comets of 1843, 1861, 1901, 1910, and 1927. We describe the perceptions of
comets in Aboriginal societies and show that they are typically associated with
fear, death, omens, malevolent spirits, and evil magic, consistent with many
cultures around the world. We also provide a list of words for comets in 16
different Aboriginal languages.Comment: Accepted in the "Journal for Astronomical History & Heritage", 17
