Thinking intuitively: the rich (and at times illogical) world of concepts
Intuitive knowledge of the world involves knowing what kinds of things have which properties. We express it in generalities such as âducks lay eggsâ. It contrasts with extensional knowledge about actual individuals in the world, which we express in quantified statements such as âAll US Presidents are maleâ. Reasoning based on this intuitive knowledge, while highly fluent and plausible may in fact lead us into logical fallacy. Several lines of research point to our conceptual memory as the source of this logical failure. We represent concepts with prototypical properties, judging likelihood and argument strength on the basis of similarity between ideas. Evidence that our minds represent the world in this intuitive way can be seen in a range of phenomena, including how people interpret logical connectives applied to everyday concepts, studies of creativity and emergence in conceptual combination, and demonstrations of the logically inconsistent beliefs that people express in their everyday language
Introduction to Gestural Similarity in Music. An Application of Category Theory to the Orchestra
Mathematics, and more generally computational sciences, intervene in several
aspects of music. Mathematics describes the acoustics of the sounds giving
formal tools to physics, and the matter of music itself in terms of
compositional structures and strategies. Mathematics can also be applied to the
entire making of music, from the score to the performance, connecting
compositional structures to acoustical reality of sounds. Moreover, the precise
concept of gesture has a decisive role in understanding musical performance. In
this paper, we apply some concepts of category theory to compare gestures of
orchestral musicians, and to investigate the relationship between orchestra and
conductor, as well as between listeners and conductor/orchestra. To this aim,
we will introduce the concept of gestural similarity. The mathematical tools
used can be applied to gesture classification, and to interdisciplinary

Word graphs: The third set
This is the third paper in a series of natural language processing in term of knowledge graphs. A word is a basic unit in natural language processing. This is why we study word graphs. Word graphs were already built for prepositions and adwords (including adjectives, adverbs and Chinese quantity words) in two other papers. In this paper, we propose the concept of the logic word and classify logic words into groups in terms of semantics and the way they are used in describing reasoning processes. A start is made with the building of the lexicon of logic words in terms of knowledge graphs
The Theory of Fuzzy Logic and its Application to Real Estate Valuation
Fuzzy logic is based on the central idea that in fuzzy sets each element in the set can assume a value from 0 to 1, not just 0 or 1, as in classic set theory. Thus, qualitative characteristics and numerically scaled measures can exhibit gradations in the extent to which they belong to the relevant sets for evaluation. This degree of membership of each element is a measure of the elementâs "belonging" to the set, and thus of the precision with which it explains the phenomenon being evaluated. Fuzzy sets can be combined to produce meaningful conclusions, and inferences can be made, given a specified fuzzy input function. The article demonstrates the application of fuzzy logic to an income-producing property, with a resulting fuzzy set output.
Contextuality: A Philosophical Paradigm, with Applications to Philosophy of Cognitive Science
We develop on the idea that everything is related, inside, and therefore determined by a context. This stance, which at first might seem obvious, has several important consequences. This paper first presents ideas on Contextuality, for then
applying them to problems in philosophy of cognitive science. Because of space limitations, for the second part we will assume that the reader is familiar with the literature of philosophy of cognitive science, but if this is not the case, it would not be a limitation for understanding the main ideas of this paper. We do not argue that Contextuality is a panaceic answer for explaining everything, but we do argue that everything is inside a context. And because this is always, we sometimes ignore it, but we believe that many problems are dissolved with a contextual approach, noticing things we ignore because of their obviousity. We first give a notion of context. We present the idea that errors are just incongruencies inside a context. We also present previous ideas of absolute being, relative being, and lessincompleteness. We state that all logics, and also truth judgements, are contextdependent, and we develop a âContext-dependant Logicâ. We apply ideas of Contextuality to problems in semantics, the problem of âwhere is the mindâ, and the study of consciousness
What is Computational Intelligence and where is it going?
What is Computational Intelligence (CI) and what are its relations with Artificial Intelligence (AI)? A brief survey of the scope of CI journals and books with ``computational intelligence'' in their title shows that at present it is an umbrella for three core technologies (neural, fuzzy and evolutionary), their applications, and selected fashionable pattern recognition methods. At present CI has no comprehensive foundations and is more a bag of tricks than a solid branch of science. The change of focus from methods to challenging problems is advocated, with CI defined as a part of computer and engineering sciences devoted to solution of non-algoritmizable problems. In this view AI is a part of CI focused on problems related to higher cognitive functions, while the rest of the CI community works on problems related to perception and control, or lower cognitive functions. Grand challenges on both sides of this spectrum are addressed
