A review of the genus Megalographa Lafontaine and Poole (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae: Plusiinae) with the description of a new species from Costa Rica

The classification of the genus Megalographa Lafontaine and Poole, 1991, is reviewed and the five known species diagnosed. The genus is essentially restricted to the New World, although one species M. biloba (Stephens) is migratory and has occasionally straggled to western Europe. A new species (Megalographa talamanca Lafontaine and Sullivan) endemic to the Talamanca Mountain Range in Costa Rica is described. Adults and genitalia are illustrated

Killing Initial Data on Totally Umbilical & Compact Hypersurfaces

In this note, we give a geometric characterization of the compact and totally umbilical hypersurfaces that carry a non trivial locally static Killing Initial Data (KID). More precisely, such compact hypersurfaces have constant mean curvature and are isometric to one of the following manifolds: (i) Sn the standard sphere, (ii) a finite quotient of a warped product of a circle with a compact Einstein manifold of positive scalar curvature. Stabilized mixed explicit finite element formulation for compressible and nearly-incompressible solids

El presente estudio presenta una formulación mixta de elementos finitos capaz de abordar problemas quasiincompresibles en forma explícita. Esta formulación se aplica a elementos con interpolaciones independientes e iguales de desplazamientos y deformaciones, estabilizadas mediante subescalas variacionales (VMS). Como continuación del estudio presentado en la referencia [23] , en la que se introdujo la subescala de las deformaciones, en este trabajo se incluyen los efectos de la sub-escala de los desplazamientos, con el fin de estabilizar el campo de las presiones. La formulación evita la condición de Ladyzhenskaya-Babuska-Brezzi (LBB) y sólo requiere la resolución de un sistema diagonal de ecuaciones. En este artículo se tratan también los principales aspectos de implementación. Finalmente, ejemplos de validación numérica muestran el comportamiento de estos elementos en comparación con la formulación irreducible.This study presents a mixed finite element formulation able to address nearly-incompressible problems explicitly. This formulation is applied to elements with independent and equal interpolation of displacements and strains, stabilized by variational subscales (VMS). As a continuation of the study presented in reference [23], in which the strains sub-scale was introduced, in this work the effects of sub-scale displacements are included, in order to stabilize the pressure field. The formulation avoids the Ladyzhenskaya-Babuska-Brezzi (LBB) condition and only requires the solution of a diagonal system of equations. The main aspects of implementation are also discussed. Vertical integration and firm boundaries : the evidence

Since Ronald H. Coase's (1937) seminal paper, a rich set of theories has been developed that deal with firm boundaries in vertical or input–output structures. In the last twenty-five years, empirical evidence that can shed light on those theories also has been accumulating. We review the findings of empirical studies that have addressed two main interrelated questions: First, what types of transactions are best brought within the firm and, second, what are the consequences of vertical integration decisions for economic outcomes such as prices, quantities, investment, and profits. Throughout, we highlight areas of potential cross-fertilization and promising areas for future work

The following new synonyms are proposed: Chytolita petrealis Grote with Herminea morbidalis Guenee; Gortyna columbia Barnes & Benjamin and Gortyna ximena Barnes & Benjamin with Gortyna obliqua Harvey; and Hydroecia pallescens Smith with Hydroecia medialis Smith. Preliminary Inventory of Lepidoptera From Cook County, Minnesota: Hesperioidea, Papilionoidea, Drepanoidea, Geometroidea, Bombycoidea, Sphingoidea and Noctuoidea

Four hundred and sixty five species of butterflies, skippers and moths, collected from 1988 through the summer of 2007, are reported from Cook County, MN. Included are data for three butterfly species of special concern: Lycaeides idas nabokovi Masters, Erebia discoidalis (Kirby) and Oeneis jutta (Hübner). Numbers of species recorded for the following families were: Hesperiidae (14), Papilionidae (2), Pieridae (7), Lycaenidae (14), Nymphalidae (24), Satyridae (6), Danaidae (1), Thyatiridae (4), Drepanidae (3), Geometridae (99), Lasiocampidae (2), Saturniidae (4), Sphingidae (16), Notodontidae (20), Arctiidae (19), Lyman- triidae (5) and Noctuidae (225). Euphydryas phaeton (Drury) (Nymphalidae) is reported for the first time from Cook County, MN and Pontia protodice (Boisduval & LeConte) (Pieridae) and Hyalophora columbia (Smith) (Saturniidae) for the first time from northeastern Minnesota
