Sexual moleslation is most certainly the phenomenon that evokes most repulsion in society at large, and in the helping professions. Since this phenomenon has been exposed by various sources, it is clear at present that professional institutions or people are still not successfully geared to render a non-fragmented service to the culprit, the victim and their various families. It would appear that, when services are rendered, the various professions involved in the case are not clear with regard to their various roles. Not only does a lack of knowledge exist regarding the phenomenon dealt with, hut also regarding the legal process that is mostly involved in these cases. Almost no identified resource exists in the community which one can approach for help without the emphasis on prosecution. This may enhance the possibility that cases still be kept secret. The question may be asked whether prosecution should be the way to handle sexual molestation, a process during which the involved child cannot he fully protected. Should other forms o f help-rendering not be considered

Language Sexism as a Form of Biased Lexicography. As an interface between linguistics and society, the dictionary serves to open up linguistics to language users in a very special way. A pragmatic approach, however, is also expected from the lexicographer, in the sense that the guidance provided in a dictionary should reflect actual language usage. A dictionary therefore has both a normative and informative character. Add to this the fact that dictionaries are used as authoritative works of reference, and the possibility that they serve to reinforce and to maintain specific language patterns is not excluded. In a period characterized by an increased focus on the prejudiced categorizing of women, the dictionary, as a source of cultural authority, is also under suspicion. The possibility that dictionaries may contribute to stereotyped roles and sexist suppositions by means of biased lexicographic practices, is discussed in this article. Words under the letter M in both a bilingual and an explanatory dictionary were studied in order to determine whether these lexicographic works are indeed guilty of linguistic sexism

Published ArticleChange in the world is reflected in almost every aspect of our lives – how we live, eat, communicate, etc. For reasons of authentication the mass media use real people in real life settings to convince real people to buy or use a product or service. For this reason it can be argued that the mass media (especially advertisements) offer a particular view of society. It is within such a specific system of belief that the mass media sell certain desires. Without a specific system of belief it is not possible to sell certain desires, for example: fitness (not sport shoes), beauty (not lipstick), etc. This view of the world offered by advertisements is unique to this genre and therefore the advertising genre can be identified, with its unique characteristics and conventions, within the bigger media world. Concepts such as morality, values and desire lead to the concept myth which forms the focus of this research. The focus of this research was to identify the meaningful denotative and connotative signs in print advertisements given the expected reaction of the target market; to identify the desires being sold in print advertising messages on the basis of the meaningful denotative and connotative signs and finally to identify the marketing myths forming the basis for selling the abovementioned desires

This article deals with the New Testament world view. In the introductory part the author deals at some length with some underlying hermeneutic issues. The subsequent section deals with the fact that the New Testament "world view" is primarily temporal and not spatial. He comes to the conclusion that the real core of the New Testament view of the world is to be found in the view of history, of which the essential elements (creation, upholding of creation, re-creation, between ascension and Second Advent and fulfilment) are analysed in some detail. He then goes on to deal with some "views of the world" in the Greek New Testament. He refers to the concepts of ouranos kai ge., oikoumene, kosmos and aion. This is followed by a discussion of the New Testament view of the dispensations (aiones) of the history of the world. The article is concluded with a discussion of the implications of these concepts for a Christian view of life and the world in the dispensation between the "already" and the "not yet": a world in which man lives as a "new man" in the "old world"
