Knowledge Management ( KM ) a New Management Paradigm in M.I.N.T

Knowledge management (KM) is one of the leading approaches used for organizationalimprovement in which a range of specific processes and practices for identifying, capturing, acquiring, organizing and preserving knowledge and for making it available for transfer, sharingand reuse across the organization are being used. KM can help research and development (R&D)organization to intensify innovation by using information and communication technology (ICT) tofacilitate the knowledge flow. Even though KM is a new management paradigm in MINT, the KMstructure, policy, objectives, strategies and initiatives has been established. However implementationrate is rather slow and the impact of KM initiatives is not readily felt. This paper has identified andcompared KM case studies. These are analysed and assessed based on their challenges, strategiesand lesson learnt from an ICT perspective. The analysis and assessment of the case studies is used todevelop action plans to improve MINT KM implementation. The result of this analysis andassessment will be proposed as MINT KM solution in the future

COMPETITION BETWEEN KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT (KM) AND MARKETING

Knowledge management has become, in recent years, a starting point for those that deal with business strategies, providing the opportunity to achieve competitive advantage and a great long-term increase of the organizational efficiency. The formation of a knowledge strategy appropriate to the economic realities enables organizations, whatever their nature, not only to survive but also in their future development. On a practical level it can be said that knowledge management works like an organization inside the other organizations. The competitiveness of implementation of the knowledge management and marketing strategy is currently, and in the future, one of the viable ways by which the maximum efficiency can mobilize resources in order to meet the full needs of individuals, communities and of the whole society. This approach may be a modern solution of knowledge and prevention of economic risk under its various forms, but also a performance guarantee in an activity. The purpose of this approach is to present a number of characteristics in a synthetic manner of knowledge management, bringing attention to the concept of adaptive management and the influences and intersections that are found in relation to the marketing process in the organizational environment.knowledge management, adaptive management, information, marketing implementation, dissemination, collaborative education, organizational environment

Assessing a Knowledge Management (KM) Project Selection Framework

Knowledge management (KM) is becoming recognized as a valuable tool for establishing and maintaining competitive advantage. Decision superiority, the ultimate goal of KM, is only possible through the effective and efficient use of knowledge. But, to effectively and efficiently create and use KM, it is important to carefully select KM projects. This research assesses the usefulness of a KM project selection framework that was developed by U.S. Air Force Captain William Bower (2001) and refined by 1st Lt Jeffrey Phillips (2003) referred to here as the Bower-Phillips decision framework. To assess the usability of the framework, a case study was undertaken at an Air Force organization to identify and address potential knowledge management opportunities. The framework was found to be useful in identifying possible KM projects

Improving the professional knowledge base for education: Using knowledge management (KM) and Web 2.0 tools

Improving education systems is an elusive goal. Despite considerable investment, international studies such as the OECD Teaching and Learning International Survey (TALIS) project and the McKinsey Report How the world’s best performing schools come out on top indicate that improving teacher quality is more important than increased financial investment. Both reports challenge governments, academics and practitioners to adopt new ways of sharing and building knowledge. This paper makes the case for national education systems to adopt tried and tested knowledge management and web 2.0 tools used by other sectors and highlights the neglected potential of teacher educators as agents for improvement

Effective Knowledge Management (KM) strategy within a business organization

A cohesive Knowledge Management (KM) strategy is found at the cornerstone of every successful business enterprise\u27s overall business strategy. The full benefit of this strategy can only be achieved through a dynamic, technology-enabled framework that encourages best and better practices to capture the outputs of human innovation and creative knowledge. Competitive pressures and technological convergence, most prevalent in high technology business sectors, have demonstrated the critical need for an information strategy that can harness and discern the continual amass of intellectual property. The continual accumulation of information and knowledge critical to the sustained viability of many business organizations, presents significant and complex management challenges. The dynamic changes in economic conditions and technical innovation and advance, coupled with the need to manage the outputs of human innovation and creative capacity, continues to present a paradigm shift from the traditional management approaches to more adaptive, dynamic, non-traditional management approaches and technology solutions. A major KM challenge many organizations continue to face is no longer just how to capture and manage their intellectual property, but how to identify and discern between true intellectual content and simple information, the real knowledge of their business. A successful KM strategy becomes synonymous with the overall business strategy, and includes the requirement for a process model that provides a framework that can be adapted to an ever-changing business model. This framework must provide the ability to identify and discern between static data or information and dynamic intellectual property, which the latter is often the direct output of human creativity and innovation.1 Accordingly, one important aspect of KM as a practice is the development of knowledge transfer systems. However, the one-size-fits-all approach to the technical solution is only part of the success equation.2 The other critical element in the equation is the approach to integrate it into the related business process framework. The means of specific process improvement may vary based on business requirements and scope of technical solution, but the underlying basis of need for change or improvement remains a constant. A foundational framework for business process strategy and execution takes on much greater significance as part of the overall business strategy. Thomas A. Stewart, a member of the board of editors at Fortune Magazine, says Because knowledge has become the single most important factor of production, managing intellectual assets has become the single most important task of business. This paper will focus on the discipline of knowledge management and associated knowledge transfer practices in a pragmatic context to illustrate its importance as an integral component of a successful business strategy. This includes the perspectives of both as strategic asset in the management of intellectual capital, and as an enabling technology to leverage the intellectual capital for business fulfillment. The assertions and discussions put forth, while centered on knowledge management, can be paralleled for several IT-centric business disciplines. However, the analysis of the research and case studies referenced in this paper will illustrate the growing breadth and importance of knowledge assets as the primary cornerstone in a broad spectrum of business disciplines. More importantly, it will clearly demonstrate the critical need to effectively manage and control knowledge assets for competitive advantage as part of the overall business strategy. 1 Yogesh Malhotra, Knowledge Management for E-business Performance: Advancing Information Strategy to Internet Time ; Information Strategy, The Executive\u27s Journal. The aim of this research-in-progress paper is to provide a comprehensive and systematic review of the literature relating to knowledge management issues in order to establish the current “state of play” in the domain along a number of dimensions including unit of analysis, research paradigm employed, and the research topics/issues investigated. Information on a series of variables was extracted after conducting a review of 1043 articles on knowledge management, published in various peer reviewed journals between 1974 and 2008. Our findings suggest that the positivist paradigm, empirical and conceptual/descriptive research, and the multi-method approach were used predominantly when investigating the topics related to KM. KM systems followed by KM environment issues were the most widely published areas within KM domain. Further, we have identified literature gaps that require further exploration and conceptual refinement in the context of knowledge management research

These works may not be re-posted without the explicit permission of the copyright holdersPractitioners are often confused by the wide range of Knowledge Management (KM) solutions that researchers and consultants offer. Part of this confusion is because they cannot determine how these solutions fit into their existing KM systems. KM assessment should be the starting point for any KM initiative yet extant literature provides little guidance in this area. In this paper we propose a tool that organisations can use to assess their Knowledge Management (KM) practices in order for them to make informed decisions and invest wisely. To that end we propose the Operations perspective of KM which encapsulates existing thinking. Our proposal goes further to outline key elements that a KM assessment tool must have and review existing tools against these elements. The KM assessment tool proposed in this paper has its roots in Quality literature and is ideal for assessing as well as designing KM systemsFinal Published versio
