    Phenomenal Concepts

    Get PDF
It's a common idea in philosophy that we possess a peculiar kind of "phenomenal concept" by which we can think about our conscious states in "inner" and "direct" ways, as for example, when I attend to the way a current pain feels and think about this feeling as such. Such phenomenal ways of thinking figure in a variety of theoretical contexts. The bulk of this article discusses their use in a certain strategy – the phenomenal concept strategy – for defending the physicalist view that conscious states are reducible to brain states. It also considers, more briefly, how phenomenal concepts have been used to defend dualism about consciousness, and how they have been used to explain our special access to our consciousness. It concludes with a discussion about whether, and in what more precise sense of the term, we at all possess "phenomenal concepts" of our conscious states

EVALUATION OF IMPLEMENTATION AND CONTENT OF THE SELECTED INDIVIDUALIZED PROGRAM FOR CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS

During our education, each of us met peers who had learning difficulties or who responded in a different and incomprehensible way to us. Children, who today are defined by the single term children with special needs, have a greater chance of being successful, gained through the planned introduction of inclusion in our school system. In this way, Slovenian education has opened up space for those children who deviate from what society defines as normal. Everyone deserves inclusion, in the process of which we are interested in the position of people who are considered marginal in a given society. The words ethics, justice and solidarity are associated with the concept of inclusion. Inclusion should go beyond integration, it's not just about physically bringing together children without problems and children with problems, it's about going beyond ideologies. Inclusion is therefore a complex process that cannot succeed overnight. All employees at the school must strive for it, because only with cooperation and acceptance will we take a step forward. An important part of the treatment of a student with special needs is also the preparation of an individualized program. The article explains the creation of an individualized program, the collection of documentation, the recording of a functioning assessment, the planning of goals, evaluations and cooperation in the preparation of the program with professionals, parents and the child

Study of Image Segmentation Schemes and Their Applications to Microscopic Images

    Get PDF
Image Segmentation is one of the most important concerns in digital image processing. It's a long standing problem in computer vision. Often it is viewed as an ill-defined problem in comparison to other vision tasks which have apparently well defined objectives, such as detection, recognition, and tracking. It is fair to say that computer vision or image understanding is all about parsing images. Different fundamental algorithms of image segmentation are implemented like Hough Transform Algorithm (Edge Linking & Boundary Detection), Region Growing (Similarity Based Segmentation), Iterative Thresholding Method. A new approach of Image Segmentation based on Maximum A posteriori is implemented which uses the concept of Baye's Theorem. A segmentation based problem to count number of white and black nano particles approximately in a microscopic image of a ceramic material is successfully solved

Sustainability, ideology, and the politics of development in Cabo Pulmo, Baja California Sur, Mexico

Based upon twelve months of anthropological fieldwork in Cabo Pulmo, Baja California Sur, Mexico, this article uses political ecology and theoretical work on ideology to examine how local residents use the concept of sustainability to advocate for alternative visions of development. Conceptually, the idea of sustainability has a long, often conflicted history. As political ecologists have pointed out, sustainability can be everything from a tool of dominance and pacification to a strident defense of environment, place, and local rights. Between 2010 and 2012, the residents of Cabo Pulmo waged a campaign against a large-scale tourism development that was perceived as a threat to local livelihoods and environmental health. They deployed the concept of sustainability during this campaign, and afterwards, as a way to build local solidarity in the face of increasing development pressures. Sustainability works as a temporary ideological tool that transcends internal disputes during intense conflicts over the meaning of development
