An Approach to the Application of the Internet of Things in Logistics

    Get PDF
The Internet of Things (IoT) is a technology of the future that is being widely applied in business environment. Companies around the world are starting to apply IoT technologies to ensure the most efficient business possible. The importance of the application of this technology has been particularly evident in improving logistics processes. This paper describes IoT applications in processes such as supply chain management, i.e. control of transport and storage of goods and materials. Examples of smart solutions offered by IoT technology are presented. Various technologies and standards are used in the implementation of the IoT. The scientific community is increasingly researching new technologies such as NB-IoT and 5G, which provide an even greater potential for IoT development. Therefore, this paper shows a comparison of these technologies and explains how IoT devices work with them

Simulation of undular bores evolution with damping

    Get PDF
Propagation of undular bores with damping is considered in the framework of perturbed extended Korteweg-de Vries (peKdV) equation. Two types of damping terms for the peKdV equation, namely linear and Chezy frictional terms, which describe the turbulent boundary layers in the fluid flow are considered. Solving the peKdV equation numerically using the method of lines shows that under the influence of damping, the lead-ing solitary wave of the undular bores will split from the nonlinear wavetrain, propagates and behaves like an isolated solitary wave. The amplitude of the leading wave will remain the same for some times before it starts to decay again at a larger time. In general the amplitude of the leading wave and the mean level across the undular bore decreases due to the effect of damping

Intelligent Products: Shifting the Production Control Logic in Construction (With Lean and BIM)

    Get PDF
Production management and control in construction has not been addressed/updated ever since the introduction of Critical Path Method and the Last Planner® system. The predominant outside-in control logic and a fragmented and deep supply chain in construction significantly affect the efficiency over a lifecycle. In a construction project, a large number of organisations interact with the product throughout the process, requiring a significant amount of information handling and synchronisation between these organisations. However, due to the deep supply chains and problems with lack of information integration, the information flow down across the lifecycle poses a significant challenge. This research proposes a product centric system, where the control logic of the production process is embedded within the individual components from the design phase. The solution is enabled by a number of technologies and tools such as Building Information Modelling, Internet of Things, Messaging Systems and within the conceptual process framework of Lean Construction. The vision encompasses the lifecycle of projects from design to construction and maintenance, where the products can interact with the environment and its actors through various stages supporting a variety of actions. The vision and the tools and technologies required to support it are described in this pape

Blockchain technology into the logistics supply chain implementation effectiveness

Technologies currently have a tremendous impact on all spheres of economy, business and a state. They integrally change people’s conception of trade, property, and market entities interaction. Artificial intelligence, additive, informationommunication, green technologies, biotechnologies, and blockchain technologies development and implementation confirm their leadership importance and inevitability in relation to the activities traditional approaches. In the modern world only the companies with flexible vision, equipment and technologies able to instantly reform, adapt to new conditions and challenges, will benefit. The point at issue is Industry 4.0 as a new technological mode emergence
