Developing Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge in pre-service science teachers: Support from blended learning

The Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) framework has been used to prepare pre-service science teachers at the Public Authority of Applied Education and Training in Kuwait for ICT integration in education. Pre-service teachers worked in teams to design an ICT solution for an authentic problem they faced during in-school training. Pre-service teachers were separated into two groups. The first group was coached by ICT, pedagogy, and content experts. The second group was offered a blended condition, by which they had access to an online portal with different tutorials and examples, with opportunities to meet with different experts whenever they wanted. Pre-test and post-test design data were collected for attitudes toward ICT, ICT skills, and TPACK. The findings show that the self-reported TPACK, the score of attitudes toward ICT, and ICT skills increased in both groups. However, the blended support condition reported a higher increase in the participants' technological knowledge (TK), technological pedagogical knowledge (TPK), their attitude toward ICT as a tool for instruction and productivity, and ICT enjoyment. This indicated that students perceived the blended condition for supporting design teams as a more desirable method for enhancing their development of TPACK

How important it is to use e-learning management systems in building smart university in Kuwait

The study aimed to investigate the importance of using e-learning management systems in the construction of smart universities in Kuwait, The results showed the importance of using e-learning management systems in building aa smart university in Kuwait to an average degree, and the averages ranged from (2.46to4.37) Between (The mathematical average of the instrument as a whole Associate Professor, Associate Professor aNot و  a (3.33). On the other hand, the differences came in favor of both associate professors and assistant professor, and the results showed statistically significant differences (= 0.05) between less than five years and more than15 years a and the differences came Between in favor of less than five (= 0.05) years

Information-seeking behaviour at Kuwait University

Information technology is constantly changing, and if academic users are to make best use of these resources, they must sustain efficient information-seeking behaviour. This study explores the information-seeking behaviour of graduate students at Kuwait University, and investigates the factors influencing that behaviour. The population also includes faculty members engaged in teaching and supervising graduate students, and academic librarians. Adopting Wilson's information-seeking model (1999) as the theoretical framework, the study identifies factors influencing graduate students' information behaviour and formulates hypotheses that illustrate the relationship between the different variables. The use of this model provides useful insights into determinants of the information-seeking behaviour patterns of students in a multidisciplinary graduate context. The research uses a mixed method approach, comprising questionnaire survey, focus groups and semi-structured interviews. Application of the Critical Incident Technique method provided in-depth data about the patterns of information-seeking behaviour of both graduate students and faculty members. Logistic regression revealed that significant factors related to library awareness, information literacy, organisational and environmental issues, source characteristics, and demographics act as determinants of the patterns of students' information-seeking behaviour. Uneasiness on the part of graduate students towards using the library and consulting its personnel reflects a broader negative perception of the role of the library in shaping students' information-searching patterns. The clearest finding that emerged from the analysis of the students' information literacy dimension was that the majority of graduate students still face difficulties in finding the appropriate information resources, particularly when using resources that need advanced search strategies. Both quantitative and qualitative analyses revealed a heavy reliance on the information resources that require least effort (search engines, Internet websites, and personal contacts). Further, results revealed that graduate students are overwhelmed by an information overload, which leads them to become anxious about finding the appropriate information resources. Based on the results of the research, recommendations are made to further explore the information-seeking behaviour patterns of graduate students in order to enhance their information literacy skills. The Use of Internet Facilities in Teaching and Research by Academic Staff of School of Management and Information Technology, Modibbo Adama University of Technology Yola

The study investigates the use of internet facilities by the academic staff of School of Management and Information Technology (SMIT) in Modibbo Adama University of Technology (MAUTECH), Yola. Literatures have been reviewed based on the objectives of the study. The findings of the study will be used to improve teaching and research not only in SMIT but to the entire university and the society at large. The study use the survey research design, the population of the study consist of all the 62 academic staff of SMIT comprising of the Departments of Accountancy, Economics, Information Technology, Library and Information Science and Management Technology. Questionnaire was used to collect data. The data collected have been analyzed through descriptive statistics using frequency table and percentage. The study revealed that the University provide staff of the University with Internet access at a fee and also academic staff of SMIT use Google, Yahoo and free database search engines for their teaching and research. Recommendation for the university management to provide free Internet access to the university community to encourage and enhance teaching and research was made

CONCEPTS OF INFORMATION LITERACY AND INFORMATION LITERACY STANDARDS AMONG UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS IN PUBLIC AND PRIVATE UNIVERITIES IN THE STATE OF KUWAIT

The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore the experiences of undergraduate college students attending a public and a private university in the State of Kuwait to understand how they develop their understanding and valuing of information literacy and information literacy standards. Data from student and faculty interviews and student research papers were gathered and analyzed using NVivo. The students' reflections on their prior experiences with research shed light on how the students formed and shaped their concepts on information literacy and their application of selected Information Literacy Competency Standards. Information literacy was not comprehended fully by the students and held different meanings to the participants in this study. The students articulated specific aspects of information literacy and displayed a fragmented understanding of the concept. The themes that emerged focused on the students' research experiences before information literacy instruction, definitions of information literacy, information literacy as a process, influences on developing information literacy skills, documentation, and expectations. The study was conducted with 24 female and male students attending a private university and a public university in Kuwait. Further research needs to be conducted on larger populations locally and regionally to assess student levels and understanding of information literacy as well as the standards in order to design effective holistic approach information literacy instruction
