Light on horizontal interactive surfaces: Input space for tabletop computing
In the last 25 years we have witnessed the rise and growth of interactive tabletop research, both in academic and in industrial settings. The rising demand for the digital support of human activities motivated the need to bring computational power to table surfaces. In this article, we review the state of the art of tabletop computing, highlighting core aspects that frame the input space of interactive tabletops: (a) developments in hardware technologies that have caused the proliferation of interactive horizontal surfaces and (b) issues related to new classes of interaction modalities (multitouch, tangible, and touchless). Using Haar-like feature classifiers for hand tracking in tabletop augmented reality

the user’s hands using haar-like feature classifiers and
correlate its positions with the fixed markers on the
table. This gives the user the possibility to move, rotate
and resize the virtual objects located over the table

Paperspace : a novel approach to document management by combining paper and digital documents
Personal document management systems provide good support for storing and organizing digital documents. However, there are no computer tools that support organization of paper documents on our desks. We ran a study of people's organization of their office desk space with respect to their digital workspace. This study resulted in a set of requirements for a media bridging tool. Based on these requirements, we built a prototype media bridging tool called PaperSpace that uses computer vision to link paper and digital documents. The system also tracks piles of paper documents on the real desktop, and links those papers to digital documents stored in the computer. Digital documents can be sorted and grouped according to the physical layout of the corresponding papers on the desk. The system automatically creates digital piles of documents in a simulated desktop that reflect the paper piles on the real desktop. The user can access valuable information through the system, such as printing statistics, location of a printed document on the desk, and past projects and their documents. A two week user evaluation of the system showed interesting usage scenarios and future trends for improving user interaction
ISAR: Ein Autorensystem für Interaktive Tische
Developing augmented reality systems involves several challenges, that prevent end users and experts from non-technical domains, such as education, to experiment with this technology. In this research we introduce ISAR, an authoring system for augmented reality tabletops targeting users from non-technical domains. ISAR allows non-technical users to create their own interactive tabletop applications and experiment with the use of this technology in domains such as educations, industrial training, and medical rehabilitation.Die Entwicklung von Augmented-Reality-Systemen ist mit mehreren Herausforderungen verbunden, die Endbenutzer und Experten aus nicht-technischen Bereichen, wie z.B. dem Bildungswesen, daran hindern, mit dieser Technologie zu experimentieren. In dieser Forschung stellen wir ISAR vor, ein Autorensystem für Augmented-Reality-Tabletops, das sich an Benutzer aus nicht-technischen Bereichen richtet. ISAR ermöglicht es nicht-technischen Anwendern, ihre eigenen interaktiven Tabletop-Anwendungen zu erstellen und mit dem Einsatz dieser Technologie in Bereichen wie Bildung, industrieller Ausbildung und medizinischer Rehabilitation zu experimentieren
Deep gesture interaction for augmented anatomy learning
Augmented reality is very useful in medical education because of the problem of having body organs in a regular classroom. In this paper, we propose to apply augmented reality to improve the way of teaching in medical schools and institutes. We propose a novel convolutional neural network (CNN) for gesture recognition, which recognizes the human's gestures as a certain instruction. We use augmented reality technology for anatomy learning, which simulates the scenarios where students can learn Anatomy with HoloLens instead of rare specimens. We have used the mesh reconstruction to reconstruct the 3D specimens. A user interface featured augment reality has been designed which fits the common process of anatomy learning. To improve the interaction services, we have applied gestures as an input source and improve the accuracy of gestures recognition by an updated deep convolutional neural network. Our proposed learning method includes many separated train procedures using cloud computing. Each train model and its related inputs have been sent to our cloud and the results are returned to the server. The suggested cloud includes windows and android devices, which are able to install deep convolutional learning libraries. Compared with previous gesture recognition, our approach is not only more accurate but also has more potential for adding new gestures. Furthermore, we have shown that neural networks can be combined with augmented reality as a rising field, and the great potential of augmented reality and neural networks to be employed for medical learning and education systems
