Reinterpreting the Virtual Visitor Experience of the Dorrance H. Hamilton Fernery
The purpose of this project was to update and improve the web presence for the Dorrance H. Hamilton Fernery at the Morris Arboretum. To do this I first evaluated the resources already present on the website, and then researched how other gardens and institutions utilize their online resources. Using this information I created a new design template for the website, which included an interactive comprehensive timeline feature, a downloadable self-guided tour, and external resource links. Once fully implemented the new Fernery website will be a place for people to visit and learn about the structure, the history, and the fern collection housed within the Dorrance H. Hamilton Fernery
Taste of the Finger Lakes: Teaching wine tasting techniques using instructional media
The Finger Lakes Wine Region is a fascinating part of Upstate New York\u27s heritage. People from all over the world come to visit the unique area and to taste wine. People who visit this area range from individuals who are looking for a good time to those who are serious wine tasters. Serious tasters can get a lot out of an afternoon of wine tasting because they may possess a higher level of knowledge about wine and the tasting process. There is an insufficient amount of interactive materials on the web for users to learn about wine in a fun and enriching way. I hope to create an entertaining and educational website for people to learn about the basics of wine and wine tasting while promoting the Finger Lakes Wine Region. The Four Factors of Fair Use
This poster was created in a collaborative effort by Musselman Library’s Copyright Committee as part of a display for Fair Use Week 2019. The poster was intended to get viewers to think about the 4 factors of fair use in the context of fan fiction and was paired with an interactive quiz game applying the four factors to a series of court cases over creators\u27 uses of copyrighted work.
To take our quiz and see if you can determine whether each case is or is not an example of fair use, visit our Fair Use Week 2019 interactive website
A web assessment approach based on summarisation and visualisation
The number of Web sites has noticeably increased to roughly 224 million in last ten years. This means there is a rapid growth of information on the Internet. Although search engines can help users to filter their desired information, the searched result is normally presented in the form of a very long list, and users have to visit each Web page in order to determine the appropriateness of the result. This leads to a considerable amount of time has to be spent on finding the required information. To address this issue, this paper proposes a Web assessment approach in order to provide an overview of the information on a Website using an integration of existing summarisation and visualisation techniques, which are text summarisation, tag cloud, Document Type View, and interactive features. This approach is capable to reduce the time required to identify and search for information from the Web
Maunalua Bay Outreach Interactive Map
This project addressed how to disseminate past, present, and future information to a wide array of bay users in the most effective format. We developed an interactive map as a community outreach tool to be embedded within Malama Maunalua’s (MM) website. The map contains spatial information, links to relevant publications, and recreation information including rules, regulations, and “points of interest.”
Our final products are intended to share knowledge of the bay leading to a more efficient and effective management of the entire ecosystem. Our products include: a Google data entry form and its guidelines, a database, a presentation, a flyer with links to available resources, and a “Read Me” document. NOTE: The map and its supplementary materials are living documents with a collection of past and current information. Thus, for the most up-to-date materials visit MM’s website
Interactive Panoramic Image ofUTP Mosque in Web-Based Environment
With the emerging of panoramic application, it becomes possible for people to 'visit* a
certain place without having to be presence at that place physically. Based on this, an
intelligence and interactive multimedia website, with the combination of several
multimediaelements, has been developed for this project. The subject area used for the
project was Universiti Teknologi Petronas's (UTP's) mosque, Masjid An-Nur. Masjid
An-Nur was chosen due to its significance as one of the most beautiful buildings in
UTP and becomes the admiration of many people. The project is purposely to create a
new way for a user to have a tour or visit and learn about some of the architecture in
UTP area, instead ofuser has to come to UTP or just view it through the photos.
The significance of this project is to develop a multimedia website about Masjid An-
Nur, UTP. The multimedia website was not just providing user with the information and
images of the mosque, but also gave user chance to 'explore' the mosque through the
panoramic application. Several multimedia elements were included in the panoramic
application in order to give more impact on user experience, while them visiting the
website. This was definitely gave user different experience.
The methodology used to complete this project is waterfall development and also
throw-away prototyping methodologies. The tools required in developing the project
consist of multimedia soft wares, HTML scripting and Windows platform workstation.
Findings and discussion of the report focus on the development process of the
panoramic image application until to the final product. The conclusion includes the
achievement of each objective of the project and the recommendations for future work
in the researcharea and the development ofthe panoramic image application
J Womens Health (Larchmt)
This article provides an overview of an interactive online training designed for healthcare professionals to hone their skills in assisting pregnant women to quit smoking and to remain quit postpartum. The curriculum teaches a best practice approach for smoking cessation, the 5A's, and is based on current clinical recommendations. The program offers five interactive case simulations and comprehensive discussions of patient visits, short lectures on relevant topics from leading experts, interviews with real patients who have quit, and a dedicated website of pertinent links and office resources. The training is accredited for up to 4.5 hours of continuing education credits. Visit Harford Trail Map
Final project for URSP688L: Planning Technologies (Fall 2018).
University of Maryland, College Park. This project focused on creating an interactive and searchable map of the most popular
trails in Harford County for the use on the Visit Harford website. This report provides
background on previously available searchable and interactive trail mapping, describes in detail
what the project’s goals, discusses the data collection process, including where the data was
collected from and qualitative data sought out.
A significant amount of data about Harford County Trails is available online, but it is not
consolidated in one place. If a visitor to Harford County wants to find a trail for hiking or biking,
there are numerous incomplete data sources and maps provided by jurisdictions and
independent organizations. The purpose of this project is to consolidate information on Harford
County’s most popular trails so that visitors and residents have easier access to the beauty of
Harford County through its comprehensive network of state parks, county parks, and trails.
This report also describes how data was gathered and manipulated to suit this project. It
also discusses the methodology, analysis, and visualization of the data. The primary purpose of
this report is to explain how the team used the data collected for mapping purposes, as well as
the project’s results. It includes a tutorial of how to use the final product with an analysis of how
it might be used on the Visit Harford site. This new interactive tool can benefit Harford County
residents and tourists alike. Ultimately, the interactive map will be incorporated into an app that
visitors to Harford County will be able to use to find not just trails, but other attractions, such as
dining, lodging, and entertainment.
Visit Harford is the destination marketing organization of Harford County, Maryland with
the goal of driving more tourism activity in Harford County. Their website includes many
attractions for both residents and tourists. Through the PALS program, our class was tasked with
providing the County with improved spatial data for tourist attractions in Harford County,
making the County more navigable for those seeking to get the most out of their visits in and
around Harford County.
Our group was assigned to Harford County’s trails. At the project’s outset, Harford
County did not have any kind of trail map that visitors could use. Additionally, the Visit Harford
County website only had a list of trails in the county, without any meaningful qualitative data
about the trails. In fact, the list of trails was included in the list of parks as a combined list of
parks and trails.1 Our group was tasked with creating an up-to-date trails inventory with
qualitative data about each trail, and then represent that data in an interactive map.
There is currently no interactive format nor a single place for visitors to research trails.
The only option is the Parks & Trails website where trails are consolidated with the parks. But
not all trails are included, and the site doesn’t include a map.Harford Count
