Socio-Economic Mechanisms to Coordinate the Internet of Services: The Simulation Environment SimIS
Visions of 21st century information systems show highly specialized digital services and resources, which interact continuously and with a global reach. Especially with the emergence of technologies, such as the semantic web or software agents, intelligent services within these settings can be implemented, automatically communicating and negotiating over the Internet about digital resources without human intervention. Such environments will eventually realize the vision of an open and global Internet of Services (IoS). In this paper we present an agent-based simulation model and toolkit for the IoS: 'SimIS - Simulating an Internet of Services'. Intelligent Tutoring Systems for Generation Z's Addiction
As generation Z's big data is flooding the Internet through social nets,
neural network based data processing is turning an important cornerstone,
showing significant potential for fast extraction of data patterns. Online
course delivery and associated tutoring are transforming into customizable,
on-demand services driven by the learner. Besides automated grading, strong
potential exists for the development and deployment of next generation
intelligent tutoring software agents. Self-adaptive, online tutoring agents
exhibiting "intelligent-like" behavior, being capable "to learn" from the
learner, will become the next educational superstars. Over the past decade,
computer-based tutoring agents were deployed in a variety of extended reality
environments, from patient rehabilitation to psychological trauma healing. Most
of these agents are driven by a set of conditional control statements and a
large answers/questions pairs dataset. This article provides a brief
introduction on Generation Z's addiction to digital information, highlights
important efforts for the development of intelligent dialogue systems, and
explains the main components and important design decisions for Intelligent

An intelligent routing approach for multimedia traffic transmission over SDN
Nowadays, multimedia applications such as video streaming services have become significantly popular, especially with the rapid growth of users, various devices, and the increased availability and diversity of these services over the internet. In this case, service providers and network administrators have difficulties ensuring end-user satisfaction because the traffic generated by such services is more exposed to multiple network quality of service impairments, including bandwidth, delay, jitter, and loss ratio. This paper proposes an intelligent-based multimedia traffic routing framework that exploits the integration of a reinforcement learning technique with software-defined networking to explore, learn and find potential routes for video streaming traffic. Simulation results through a realistic network and under various traffic loads demonstrate the proposed scheme's effectiveness in providing a better end-user viewing quality, higher throughput and lower video quality switches when compared to the existing techniques
Technological roadmap on AI planning and scheduling
At the beginning of the new century, Information Technologies had become basic and indispensable
constituents of the production and preparation processes for all kinds of goods and services and
with that are largely influencing both the working and private life of nearly every citizen. This
development will continue and even further grow with the continually increasing use of the Internet
in production, business, science, education, and everyday societal and private undertaking.
Recent years have shown, however, that a dramatic enhancement of software capabilities is required,
when aiming to continuously provide advanced and competitive products and services in all these
fast developing sectors. It includes the development of intelligent systems – systems that are more
autonomous, flexible, and robust than today’s conventional software.
Intelligent Planning and Scheduling is a key enabling technology for intelligent systems. It has
been developed and matured over the last three decades and has successfully been employed for a
variety of applications in commerce, industry, education, medicine, public transport, defense, and
government.
This document reviews the state-of-the-art in key application and technical areas of Intelligent Planning
and Scheduling. It identifies the most important research, development, and technology transfer
efforts required in the coming 3 to 10 years and shows the way forward to meet these challenges in
the short-, medium- and longer-term future.
The roadmap has been developed under the regime of PLANET – the European Network of Excellence
in AI Planning. This network, established by the European Commission in 1998, is the co-ordinating
framework for research, development, and technology transfer in the field of Intelligent Planning and
Scheduling in Europe.
A large number of people have contributed to this document including the members of PLANET non-
European international experts, and a number of independent expert peer reviewers. All of them are
acknowledged in a separate section of this document.
Intelligent Planning and Scheduling is a far-reaching technology. Accepting the challenges and progressing
along the directions pointed out in this roadmap will enable a new generation of intelligent
application systems in a wide variety of industrial, commercial, public, and private sectors
Managing ubiquitous eco cities: the role of urban telecommunication infrastructure networks and convergence technologies
A successful urban management system for a Ubiquitous Eco City requires an integrated approach. This integration includes bringing together economic, socio-cultural and urban development with a well orchestrated, transparent and open decision making mechanism and necessary infrastructure and technologies. Rapidly developing information and telecommunication technologies and their platforms in the late 20th Century improves urban management and enhances the quality of life and place. Telecommunication technologies provide an important base for monitoring and managing activities over wired, wireless or fibre-optic networks. Particularly technology convergence creates new ways in which the information and telecommunication technologies are used. The 21st Century is an era where information has converged, in which people are able to access a variety of services, including internet and location based services, through multi-functional devices such as mobile phones and provides opportunities in the management of Ubiquitous Eco Cities. This paper discusses the recent developments in telecommunication networks and trends in convergence technologies and their implications on the management of Ubiquitous Eco Cities and how this technological shift is likely to be beneficial in improving the quality of life and place.
