    Assisting Tourism Supply Chain Performance in Thailand through Big Data Analytics: Moderating Role of IT Capability

    Oxygen of Thailand’s economy is its tourism industry which has also geared up all related sectors too. Country is making a lot of efforts to achieve sustainable tourism supply chain performance through Big Data Analytics (BDA) as without BDA, it was never possible to move towards sustainability for such a big industry. However, IT capability seems a missing piece in some cases which can decrease the effectiveness of BDA dimensions. Author has aimed to analyze the impact of BDA planning, investment, coordination and control on sustainable tourism development in moderating role of IT capability. Sample was consisted of those hotels and hospitality industry units which already have BDA system in operational phase and their employees were surveyed through questionnaire and responses were then analyzed on SPSS and AMOS for hypotheses testing. Results have enlightened that BDA dimensions have significant positive impact on sustainable tourism supply chain performance while IT capability was also found as positive and significant moderator too. None of the previous studies have taken IT capability as moderator but this originality in this study has long lasting implications for tourism and manufacturing industry to induce IT capability in their organizations to achieve sustainability

Transforming Government: People, Process and Policy. https://doi.org/10.1108/TG-05-2022-0078Abstract Purpose The number of candidates applying to public contests (PC) is increasing compared to the number of human resources employees required for selecting them for the Police Force (PF). This work intends to perceive how those public institutions can evaluate and select their candidates efficiently during the different phases of the recruitment process. To achieve this purpose, artificial intelligence (AI) was studied. This paper aims to focus on analysing the AI technologies most used and appropriate to the PF as a complementary recruitment strategy of the National Criminal Investigation police agency of Portugal – Polícia Judiciária. Design/methodology/approach Using design science research as a methodological approach, the authors suggest a theoretical framework in pair with the segmentation of the candidates and comprehend the most important facts facing public institutions regarding the usage of AI technologies to make decisions about evaluating and selecting candidates. Following the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses methodology guidelines, a systematic literature review and meta-analyses method was adopted to identify how the usage and exploitation of transparent AI positively impact the recruitment process of a public institution, resulting in an analysis of 34 papers between 2017 and 2021. Findings Results suggest that the conceptual pairing of evaluation and selection problems of candidates who apply to PC with applicable AI technology such as K-means, hierarchical clustering, artificial neural network and convolutional neural network algorithms can support the recruitment process and could help reduce the workload in the entire process while maintaining the standard of responsibility. The combination of AI and human decision-making is a fair, objective and unbiased process emphasising a decision-making process free of nepotism and favouritism when carefully developed. Innovative and modern as a category, group the statements that emphasise the innovative and contemporary nature of the process. Research limitations/implications There are two main limitations in this study that should be considered. Firstly, the difficulty regarding the timetable, privacy and legal issues associated with public institutions. Secondly, a small group of experts served as the validation group for the new framework. Individual semi-structured interviews were conducted to alleviate this constraint. They provide additional insights into an interviewee’s opinions and beliefs. Social implications Ensure that the system is fair, transparent and facilitates their application process. Originality/value The main contribution is the AI-based theoretical framework, applicable within the analysis of literature papers, focusing on the problem of how the institutions can gain insights about their candidates while profiling them, how to obtain more accurate information from the interview phase and how to reach a more rigorous assessment of their emotional intelligence providing a better alignment of moral values. This work aims to improve the decision-making process of a PF institution recruiter by turning it into a more automated and evidence-based decision when recruiting an adequate candidate for the job vacancy.authorsversionpublishe

    Social media in project management: A systematic narrative literature review

    Despite the adoption of social media in many business operations, evidence suggests that the usage of social media for project management activities is scarce. Through this literature review, the paper seeks to clarify the scope of the available knowledge, highlight the significance of new research agendas and address the principal reason for the limited use of social media in project management. A literature review was conducted to analyze the benefits of using social media in project management along with the areas in which it is used, the threats, barriers and enablers of social media adoption. Key areas where social media is used in project management include requirements management, communication management, policymaking, knowledge management and collaboration. Social media usage has shown to improve information sharing, engagement and relationships. Threats include a negative impact on reputation, employee productivity and information privacy. The reviewed literature highlights that the lack of a social media adoption strategy is the principal reason for the limited use of social media in project management. This study contributes to both the project management practice and literature by introducing a model for social media adoption in project management

    Institutional vs. Non-institutional use of Social Media during Emergency Response: A Case of Twitter in 2014 Australian Bush Fire

    © 2017, Springer Science+Business Media, LLC. Social media plays a significant role in rapid propagation of information when disasters occur. Among the four phases of disaster management life cycle: prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery, this paper focuses on the use of social media during the response phase. It empirically examines the use of microblogging platforms by Emergency Response Organisations (EROs) during extreme natural events, and distinguishes the use of Twitter by EROs from digital volunteers during a fire hazard occurred in Australia state of Victoria in early February 2014. We analysed 7982 tweets on this event. While traditionally theories such as World System Theory and Institutional Theory focus on the role of powerful institutional information outlets, we found that platforms like Twitter challenge such notion by sharing the power between large institutional (e.g. EROs) and smaller non-institutional players (e.g. digital volunteers) in the dissemination of disaster information. Our results highlight that both large EROs and individual digital volunteers proactively used Twitter to disseminate and distribute fire related information. We also found that the contents of tweets were more informative than directive, and that while the total number of messages posted by top EROs was higher than the non-institutional ones, non-institutions presented a greater number of retweets

This work intends to perceive how those Public Institutions can evaluate and select their candidates efficiently during the different phases of the recruitment process, and for achieving this purpose AI approaches will be studied. This paper presents two research questions and introduces a corresponding systematic literature review, focusing on AI technologies, so the reader is able to understand which are most used and more appropriate to be applied to Police Forces as a complementary recruitment strategy of the National Criminal Investigation Police agency of Portugal – Polícia Judiciária. Design Science Research (DSR) was the methodological approach chosen. The suggestion of a theoretical framework is the main contribution of this study in pair with the segmentation of the candidates (future Criminal Inspectors). It also helped to comprehend the most important facts facing Public Institutions regarding the usage of AI technologies, to make decisions about evaluating and selecting candidates. Following the PRISMA methodology guidelines, a systematic literature review and meta-analyses method was adopted to identify how can the usage and exploitation of transparent AI have a positive impact on the recruitment process of a Public Institution, resulting in an analysis of 34 papers published between 2017 and 2021. The AI-based theoretical framework, applicable within the analysis of literature papers, solves the problem of how the Institutions can gain insights about their candidates while profiling them; how to obtain more accurate information from the interview phase; and how to reach a more rigorous assessment of their emotional intelligence providing a better alignment of moral values. This way, this work aims to advise the improvement of the decision making to be taken by a recruiter of a Police Force Institution, turning it into a more automated and evidence-based decision when it comes to recruiting the adequate candidate for the place

    Sosyal medya, farklı geçmiş deneyimlere sahip kullanıcılar arasında ilişki kurulmasını kolaylaştıran ve zengin bir toplumsal yapıya yol açan iletişim web sitelerini kapsamaktadır. Kullanıcı türevli içerik, sorgulamayı ve karar vermeyi teşvik etmektedir. Sosyal medyanın çeşitli paydaşlarla olan ilişkisi göz önünde bulundurulduğunda, sosyal medya enformasyon sistemleri de dahil olmak üzere farklı alanlardaki araştırmacılardan büyük ilgi görmüştür. Sosyal medya ile ilgili literatür bulgularını bir araya getiren ve sentezleyen kapsamlı bir derleme bulunmamaktadır. Bu çalışma, 1997 ve 2017 yılları arasında sosyal medya ve sosyal ağ kullanımı üzerine (seçilmiş ES dergilerinde) yayınlanan 132 makalenin bulgularını tartışmaktadır. Burada incelenen makalelerin çoğu, sosyal medyanın davranışsal tarafını irdelemekte, görüşler ve önerilerin boyutlarını araştırmakta ve kurumsal amaçlara entegrasyonunu incelemektedir. Bununla birlikte, birçok çalışma çevrimiçi toplulukların/sosyal medyanın bir pazarlama aracı olarak varlığını sürdürebilmesini araştırırken, diğer çalışmalar; sosyal medyanın kullanımıyla ilgili riskleri, yarattığı değeri ve çalışma ortamına ilişkin olumsuz damgalamaya yol açmasını içeren çeşitli yönlerini araştırmıştır. Sosyal medyanın kritik olaylar esnasında enformasyon paylaşımı ve yardım istemek ve/veya etmek açısından kullanımı da önceki çalışmalarda ele alınmıştır. Diğer bağlamlar siyasal yönetim ve kamu yönetimini ve geleneksel medya ile sosyal medya arasındaki karşılaştırmaları içermektedir. Genel olarak çalışmamız, mevcut literatürde ortaya çıkan çoklu temaları tespit etmekte ve böylece sosyal medya araştırmalarındaki gelişmelere dair kavrayışımızı arttırmaktadır. Çalışmamızın sunmuş olduğu mevcut literatüre bütünsel bir bakış, gelecekteki araştırmacıların aynı konuyu tekrar çalışmasını önleyebileceği gibi, ortaya çıkan bu alanın araştırmasını şekillendirmeye yardımcı olacak faydalı sorgulama yöntemleri de önerebilir
