Effects of word processing on text revision
Revising is an evaluating and editing process that is an essential part of text production. Is text revising facilitated by the use of word processors? After examining the related research, it is difficult to conclude with certainty that the use of word processors is always effective in improving writers' revising skills, or that their use necessarily leads to the production of higher quality texts. Building an IDE for the Calculational Derivation of Imperative Programs
In this paper, we describe an IDE called CAPS (Calculational Assistant for
Programming from Specifications) for the interactive, calculational derivation
of imperative programs. In building CAPS, our aim has been to make the IDE
accessible to non-experts while retaining the overall flavor of the
pen-and-paper calculational style. We discuss the overall architecture of the
CAPS system, the main features of the IDE, the GUI design, and the trade-offs

FISH: A 3D parallel MHD code for astrophysical applications
FISH is a fast and simple ideal magneto-hydrodynamics code that scales to ~10
000 processes for a Cartesian computational domain of ~1000^3 cells. The
simplicity of FISH has been achieved by the rigorous application of the
operator splitting technique, while second order accuracy is maintained by the
symmetric ordering of the operators. Between directional sweeps, the
three-dimensional data is rotated in memory so that the sweep is always
performed in a cache-efficient way along the direction of contiguous memory.
Hence, the code only requires a one-dimensional description of the conservation
equations to be solved. This approach also enable an elegant novel
parallelisation of the code that is based on persistent communications with MPI
for cubic domain decomposition on machines with distributed memory. This scheme
is then combined with an additional OpenMP parallelisation of different sweeps
that can take advantage of clusters of shared memory. We document the detailed
implementation of a second order TVD advection scheme based on flux
reconstruction. The magnetic fields are evolved by a constrained transport
scheme. We show that the subtraction of a simple estimate of the hydrostatic
gradient from the total gradients can significantly reduce the dissipation of
the advection scheme in simulations of gravitationally bound hydrostatic
objects. Through its simplicity and efficiency, FISH is as well-suited for
hydrodynamics classes as for large-scale astrophysical simulations on
high-performance computer clusters. In preparation for the release of a public
version, we demonstrate the performance of FISH in a suite of astrophysically

Concurrent engineering, product life cycle management using cross-functional teams: a case study
Concurrent engineering (CE) aspires to foster a collaborative environment in which all players work cooperatively to optimize resource use. However, such variables can complicate execution in organizations. This analysis aims to detail creating and implementing a CE model in an Iraqi textile factory. Administrative and quality management procedures were used to collect process data. With the enterprise’s culture in mind, a CE model centered on modern product management was created. Two programs were used to validate the proposed model’s features. From three to one month, the time is taken to plan and approve inventions was reduced. The method now has a stable architecture due to finding deployment problems, potential operator errors, and bottlenecks. This research used a cross-functional team to accomplish the (CE) goal of shortening the product’s life cycle while focusing on the product’s quality requirements. Aspect-oriented interaction in multi-organisational web-based systems
Separation of concerns has been presented as a promising tool to tackle the design of complex systems in which
cross-cutting properties that do not fit into the scope of a class must be satisfied. Unfortunately, current proposals
assume that objects interact by means of object-oriented method calls, which implies that they embed interactions with
others into their functional code. This makes them dependent on this interaction model, and makes it difficult to reuse
them in a context in which another interaction model is more suited, e.g., tuple spaces, multiparty meetings, ports, and
so forth. In this paper, we show that functionality can be described separately from the interaction model used, which
helps enhance reusability of functional code and coordination patterns. Our proposal is innovative in that it is the first
that achieves a clear separation between functionality and interaction in an aspect-oriented manner. In order to show
that it is feasible, we adapted the multiparty interaction model to the context of multiorganisational web-based systems
and developed a class framework to build business objects whose performance rates comparably to handmade implementations;
