Integrated Information Supply for Decision Support in Grid Companies

    Get PDF
Increasing regulatory requirements such as price cap regulation have increased the importance of strategic grid asset management. Empirical studies reveal that information supply and consolidation are error prone and long-term processes. The reason is the missing automation of extraction, transformation, and loading. The current gap does neither fulfill the requirements of regulatory nor the necessity of standardized reporting. Furthermore, a detailed planning is not enabled and the calculation of key figures is extensive. Currently, a framework that considers the coupling of financial and technical key figures, the coupling of strategic and operative key figures as well as the integration into information systems is not existent. Therefore, this paper addresses the design of a reference model as a recommendation for action to integrate the asset management within information systems. It is validated by expert interviews. Moreover, it provides information to integrate relevant financial and technical artifacts from distributed systems. Simultaneously, it provides recommendations for implementing a Business Intelligence architecture in the context of strategic decision support

Internet of Energy - ICT as a Key Technology for the Energy System of the Future

Since the appearance of the special focus of “IT in the Utilities Industry” (WI 49) in the journal WIRTSCHAFTSINFORMATIK in autumn 2007, a dynamic development has taken place in the field. The ongoing effects of liberalization and the accelerated development of renewable energies have driven sustainable market changes leading to a transformation of the in- dustry. In parallel, the research program E-Energy of the Federal German Government started in 2008. Within this framework, projects in six model regions applied novel concepts and conducted systematic empirical research with extensive field trials. The federal research program in the field of infrastructure and processes for electric mobil- ity also played an important role in the research landscape of the recent years

Towards a Smart Services Enabling Information Architecture for Installed Base Management in Manufacturing

    Get PDF
In the manufacturing industry the provision of smart services is an opportunity to gain a competitive advantage. As there are high demands on machine availability, smart services in the field of installed base management are important. Through integrating condition monitoring data with installed base data a digital twin of the installed base can be created. This enables comprehensive analyses and the provision of individualized smart services. But this requires to structure and standardize the data. Following the action design research (ADR) approach, in this article design principles of an information architecture are developed. The architecture is evaluated and improved in the context of an international engineering and manufacturing company. A test run with real machine data shows the applicability in practice

Business intelligence in the electrical power industry

Nowadays, the electrical power industry has gained tremendous interest from both entrepreneurs and researchers due to its essential roles in everyday life. However, the current sources for generating electricity are astonishing decreasing, which leads to more challenges for the power industry. Based on the viewpoint of sustainable development, the solution should maintain three layers of economically, ecologically, and society; simultaneously, support business decision-making, increases organizational productivity and operational energy efficiency. In the smart and innovative technology context, business intelligence solution is considered as a potential option in the data-rich environment, which is still witnessed disjointed theoretical progress. Therefore, this study aimed to conduct a systematic literature review and build a body of knowledge related to business intelligence in the electrical power sector. The author also built an integrative framework displaying linkages between antecedents and outcomes of business intelligence in the electrical power industry. Finally, the paper depicted the underexplored areas of the literature and shed light on the research objectives in terms of theoretical and practical implications

A method for developing Reference Enterprise Architectures

    Get PDF
Industrial change forces enterprises to constantly adjust their organizational structures in order to stay competitive. In this regard, research acknowledges the potential of Reference Enterprise Architectures (REA). This thesis proposes REAM - a method for developing REAs. After contrasting organizations' needs with approaches available in the current knowledge base, this work identifies the absence of method support for REA development. Proposing REAM, the author aims to close this research gap and evaluates the method's utility by applying REAM in different naturalistic settings
