Adoption and impact of management standards - Position paper

Standardization makes its contributions to many aspects of our lives, although often that contribution is unnoticed. For example, management standards, such as the ISO 9000 family, establish a common ground perspective that enlarges companies' markets and boosts its international reaching, technological development, and innovation while supporting continuous quality improvement in products and services both at a national and international level. Notwithstanding the recognized relevance of some management standards, especially the ones that have an associated certification system to support its knowledge (e.g., ISO 9000 family), little is known about the impact of the standards (e.g., ISO 21500 family) adoption in increasing organizations' performance regarding, for instance, quality, safety, efficiency, or interoperability. This hinders the standards' dissemination and potential use and unnecessarily delays its revision and further development. To help fill this gap, this position paper proposes a research project that includes the development of a model and an observatory focusing on the adoption of management standards. The expected contributions are: 1) at a theoretical level, a new conceptual model for the explanation and assessment of the adoption of management standards and related impacts; 2) at a practical level, a new information system (observatory) which is expected to be a tool for understanding the adoption of standards, as well as for monitoring and publicizing the results obtained from standardization practices. This work has been partially supported by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT - MCTES) for its financial support via the project UIDB/00667/2020 (UNIDEMI)

A comparison of project control standards based on network analysis

Project control is a crucial function in project management. Over the years, several best practice standards have been developed to assist project managers in improving project control. The objective of this paper is to compare three prominent best practice models of PMBOK, PRINCE2, and the AACE framework with respect to the core processes of project control. Network analysis is used to achieve this objective. The results show that influential and linkage processes, such as Control quality, Review the stage status, Forecasting, and Change management have the most significant impacts on the complexity of the project control function. This work has the potential to help rethink the project control function by creating a more global view of the most central and critical processes for project control, from which enhancement in the ability to control the project can be drawn

The objective of this thesis is a project management proposal based on the PMBOK guide to improve the execution of the access road of a mining project in Ancash in 2021 through the planning and control of the scope, schedule, and cost. The type of research was quantitative, with an explanatory non-experimental research design, which sought to analyze both dependent and independent variables and determine if one affects the other. The study sample is constituted by the project management of three areas (Scope Management, Schedule Management, Cost Management) in the works in execution of the Antamina mining unit during the year 2021. The research improved the PMBOK guide, which provided the guidelines and guidelines to identify the characteristics and formats necessary for the project. Likewise, the composition structure of the research was carried out taking into account the activities involved, their sequence, constructive ease, the cost, availability, and use of inputs (materials, equipment, tools), as well as the availability of hand of operational work and yields. During the methodology used, the collection of during the first 36 initial weeks of the project was shown, the information was obtained current on the scope of the project, the performance of the schedule, the performance of the cost and the progress of the execution of the works. That is why the performance control report of machine hours, man hours and cost control was obtained. Subsequently, the information obtained was processed using Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Project and AutoCAD software and interpreted to obtain the measurement of management efficiency and thus achieve the necessary results to propose the application of the PMBOK guidelines in the project. Finally, after analyzing, interpreting, defining the base information and processed information based on the proposal, the results, conclusions, and recommendations were presented according to the information obtained in the investigation.Tesi
