Parametric Estimation of Handoff
The efficiency of wireless technology depends upon the seamless connectivity
to the user at anywhere any time.Heterogeneous wireless networks are an
integration of different networks with diversified technologies. The most
essential requirement for Seamless vertical handover is that the received
signal strength should always be healthy. Mobile device enabled with multiple
wireless technologies makes it possible to maintain seamless connectivity in
highly dynamic environment.Since the available bandwidth is limited and the
number of users is growing rapidly, it is a real challenge to maintain the
received signal strength in a healthy stage. In this work, the proposed, cost
effective parametric estimation for vertical handover shows that the received
signal strength maintains a healthy level by considering the novel concept.Comment: 5 Pages,3 figures, NCCCS-12,ISBN:978-1-4673-2837-
A Survey on Handover Management in Mobility Architectures
This work presents a comprehensive and structured taxonomy of available
techniques for managing the handover process in mobility architectures.
Representative works from the existing literature have been divided into
appropriate categories, based on their ability to support horizontal handovers,
vertical handovers and multihoming. We describe approaches designed to work on
the current Internet (i.e. IPv4-based networks), as well as those that have
been devised for the "future" Internet (e.g. IPv6-based networks and
extensions). Quantitative measures and qualitative indicators are also
presented and used to evaluate and compare the examined approaches. This
critical review provides some valuable guidelines and suggestions for designing
and developing mobility architectures, including some practical expedients
(e.g. those required in the current Internet environment), aimed to cope with
the presence of NAT/firewalls and to provide support to legacy systems and
several communication protocols working at the application layer
An Overview of Vertical Handoff Decision Algorithms in NGWNs and a new Scheme for Providing Optimized Performance in Heterogeneous Wireless Networks
Because the increasingly development and use of wireless networks and mobile technologies, was implemented the idea that users of mobile terminals must have access in different wireless networks simultaneously. Therefore one of the main interest points of Next Generation Wireless Networks (NGWNs), refers to the ability to support wireless network access equipment to ensure a high rate of services between different wireless networks. To solve these problems it was necessary to have decision algorithms to decide for each user of mobile terminal, which is the best network at some point, for a service or a specific application that the user needs. Therefore to make these things, different algorithms use the vertical handoff technique. Below are presented a series of algorithms based on vertical handoff technique with a classification of the different existing vertical handoff decision strategies, which tries to solve these issues of wireless network selection at a given time for a specific application of an user. Based on our synthesis on vertical handoff decision strategies given below, we build our strategy based on solutions presented below, taking the most interesting aspect of each one.Vertical Handoff, Genetic Algorithms, Fuzzy Logic, Neural Networks, AHP
MIPv6 Experimental Evaluation using Overlay Networks
The commercial deployment of Mobile IPv6 has been hastened by the concepts of Integrated
Wireless Networks and Overlay Networks, which are present in the notion of the
forthcoming generation of wireless communications. Individual wireless access networks
show limitations that can be overcome through the integration of different technologies
into a single unified platform (i.e., 4G systems). This paper summarises practical experiments
performed to evaluate the impact of inter-networking (i.e. vertical handovers) on
the Network and Transport layers. Based on our observations, we propose and evaluate a
number of inter-technology handover optimisation techniques, e.g., Router Advertisements
frequency values, Binding Update simulcasting, Router Advertisement caching, and Soft
Handovers. The paper concludes with the description of a policy-based mobility support
middleware (PROTON) that hides 4G networking complexities from mobile users, provides
informed handover-related decisions, and enables the application of different vertical
handover methods and optimisations according to context.Publicad
A Seamless Vertical Handoff Protocol for Enhancing the Performance of Data Services in Integrated UMTS/WLAN Network
The Next Generation Wireless Network (NGWN) is speculated to be a unified network composed of several existing wireless access networks such as Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN), Global System for Mobile (GSM), Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS), Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX), and satellite network etc
Fourth Generation Wireless Systems: Requirements and Challenges for the Next Frontier
Fourth generation wireless systems (4G) are likely to reach the consumer market in another 4-5 years. 4G comes with the promise of increased bandwidth, higher speeds, greater interoperability across communication protocols, and user friendly, innovative, and secure applications. In this article, I list the requirements of the 4G systems by considering the needs of the users in the future. These requirements can be met if technical and business challenges can be overcome. Technical challenges include mobility management, quality of service, interoperability, high data rate, security, survivability, spectrum, intelligent mobile devices, middleware, and network access. I discuss the most plausible solutions to these technical challenges in this paper. Business-related challenges include billing, payment methods, pricing, size of investments, content provision and mediation, and the trade-off between richness and reach. If these technical and business challenges can be met, then 4G will become the next frontier in data and voice communication infrastructure
