Human Resource Management (HR/HRM) is closely connected to the social and economic environment in which a given organization or company operates. On this basis it may be interesting for foreign potential investors to understand both the differences and similarities in the application of HRM methods in a group of countries which had lived for a long period of time in a federation which had finally disintegrated. Such investors usually come from different environments and backgrounds and have previous experience in the application of specific forms of HRM practice. In this paper the authors try to present the development and changes in the theories and practice of Human Resource Management in most of the countries established on the territory of the former Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, Serbia and Slovenia.human resource management; economic environment; practices change; former Yugoslavia.

Franchising in the Balkan area: A review

    Get PDF
Franchising in the Balkan area has been present since the late 1980s and early 1990s when the countries of the so-called communist block started a transition to a market economy and opened their borders to new companies, “new” ideas, foreign companies, and foreign capital. Franchising was introduced mainly by foreign companies, which triggered activities of local entrepreneurs who started to use franchising as their growth strategy. Although almost 30 years have passed since then, franchising in those countries is in different phases of development, ranging from very early to very developed phases of development. The paper will examine the current status of franchising in several countries in the Balkan area (i.e., Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, and Macedonia) and present current opportunities for and barriers to further development. In the first part of the paper, we will give a brief introduction to franchising and several theories used for explaining franchising. In the second part, the current situation in relation to franchising in several countries in the Balkan area will be presented based on the current number of franchising systems and the existing legal framework. In the last part, similarities between the countries under study will be examined, and based on the findings, a conclusion will be made together with proposals for further research

Stay Healthy: Slovenian users\u27 Opinions about the Covid-19 Contact-Tracing Mobile Application

    Get PDF
This paper aims to provide a systemic vision of the role and specifics of a Covid-19 contact-tracing mobile application, which can be presented as a data-driven mobile application for citizens in urban data management processes and is essential for a sustainable urban ecosystem to inform the user about contact with a potentially infected person. The study aims to reveal the behaviour of adults when using such an application. We also attempt to discover how the Covid 19 pandemic has changed communication and why users use mobile phones and their features, such as Bluetooth and GPS. The research focused on Slovenia and was conducted during the Covid-19 pandemic in April 2021. Five hundred adults were surveyed. The mixed-method survey investigates the determinants of adult citizens’ behaviour in the Republic of Slovenia concerning the #Ostanizdrav application from three perspectives (installed app, activated app, and app used to report infection). In addition, the study examines the barriers and levers to using a contact tracing application to combat the pandemic in Slovenia. The second part of the study involves developing a Deep Learning-based predictive model trained on the data collected due to the survey. &nbs
