ICT Research, the New Economy, and the Evolving Discipline of Economics: Back to the Future?

    Get PDF
Economics-related ICT research has moved from the fringes of the discipline to penetrate all of its branches. It is, therefore, not a separate economics sub-discipline. It is also unlikely to become part of an 'ICT or Internet Research' proto-discipline. Instead, it should be seen as only one part of a bigger agenda toward a proper 'information and knowledge economics' and possibly a future proto-discipline of a 'unified theory of information and knowledge' or a meta-discipline of information sciences. This is the post-print version of a short article for the Special Issue: ICT Research and Disciplinary Boundaries: Is “Internet Research” a Virtual Field, a Proto-Discipline, or Something Else?”(Guest Editor: Nancy K. Baym), Information Society, Volume 21, No. 4, 2005, pp. 317-320. See: http://www.indiana.edu/~tisj

The first part contains abstracts of a symposium on salt ponds and lagoons held in conjunction with the New England Estuarine Research Society (NEERS) on April 21, 1988. These should provide both scientists and managers with an overview of recent research on salt ponds. The second part contains maps, morphometric data, and references for individual salt ponds in Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts. The third section is a comprehensive bibliography of papers and reports on salt ponds, including information on ponds located outside of New England. A listing of references organized according to topic areas is also provided.Funding was provided by separate Grants from the Andrew W. Cabenge River is part of the WalanaeCenranae River area in Soppeng Regency. Annually, the area around the Cabenge River gets the most losses from floods, both in terms of facilities and infrastructures. This study aims to map the areas prone to flood and flood risk, based on the field that gets the most significant impact. This study uses a Geographic Information System (GIS) as a tool and ArcGis Software in determining the level of vulnerability and risk of flooding at the study site. This type of research is a combination of mapping (topographic results) and map analysis. The variables used are DEM (Digital Elevation Model) data and flood volume. The data processing technique used is the GIS-based inundation model approach using inundation height (H) based on a comparison between the volume of water (V) in inundated areas and the volume of water (Q) of flood sources. The results showed that Lilirilau District was in the high hazard class with an area of 100 km2 and had the biggest impact, while in Liliriaja District, the area that was in a high hazard class was 34 km2 and Ganra District was 21 km2
