A Forward Reachability Algorithm for Bounded Timed-Arc Petri Nets
Timed-arc Petri nets (TAPN) are a well-known time extension of the Petri net
model and several translations to networks of timed automata have been proposed
for this model. We present a direct, DBM-based algorithm for forward
reachability analysis of bounded TAPNs extended with transport arcs, inhibitor
arcs and age invariants. We also give a complete proof of its correctness,
including reduction techniques based on symmetries and extrapolation. Finally,
we augment the algorithm with a novel state-space reduction technique
introducing a monotonic ordering on markings and prove its soundness even in
the presence of monotonicity-breaking features like age invariants and
inhibitor arcs. We implement the algorithm within the model-checker TAPAAL and
the experimental results document an encouraging performance compared to
verification approaches that translate TAPN models to UPPAAL timed automata.Comment: In Proceedings SSV 2012, arXiv:1211.587
Optimal infinite scheduling for multi-priced timed automata
This paper is concerned with the derivation of infinite schedules for timed automata that are in some sense optimal. To cover a wide class of optimality criteria we start out by introducing an extension of the (priced) timed automata model that includes both costs and rewards as separate modelling features. A precise definition is then given of what constitutes optimal infinite behaviours for this class of models. We subsequently show that the derivation of optimal non-terminating schedules for such double-priced timed automata is computable. This is done by a reduction of the problem to the determination of optimal mean-cycles in finite graphs with weighted edges. This reduction is obtained by introducing the so-called corner-point abstraction, a powerful abstraction technique of which we show that it preserves optimal schedules
Revisiting Underapproximate Reachability for Multipushdown Systems
Boolean programs with multiple recursive threads can be captured as pushdown
automata with multiple stacks. This model is Turing complete, and hence, one is
often interested in analyzing a restricted class that still captures useful
behaviors. In this paper, we propose a new class of bounded under
approximations for multi-pushdown systems, which subsumes most existing
classes. We develop an efficient algorithm for solving the under-approximate
reachability problem, which is based on efficient fix-point computations. We
implement it in our tool BHIM and illustrate its applicability by generating a
set of relevant benchmarks and examining its performance. As an additional
takeaway, BHIM solves the binary reachability problem in pushdown automata. To
show the versatility of our approach, we then extend our algorithm to the timed
setting and provide the first implementation that can handle timed
multi-pushdown automata with closed guards.Comment: 52 pages, Conference TACAS 202
Algorithmic Verification of Continuous and Hybrid Systems
We provide a tutorial introduction to reachability computation, a class of
computational techniques that exports verification technology toward continuous
and hybrid systems. For open under-determined systems, this technique can
sometimes replace an infinite number of simulations.Comment: In Proceedings INFINITY 2013, arXiv:1402.661
Improving search order for reachability testing in timed automata
Standard algorithms for reachability analysis of timed automata are sensitive
to the order in which the transitions of the automata are taken. To tackle this
problem, we propose a ranking system and a waiting strategy. This paper
discusses the reason why the search order matters and shows how a ranking
system and a waiting strategy can be integrated into the standard reachability
algorithm to alleviate and prevent the problem respectively. Experiments show
that the combination of the two approaches gives optimal search order on
standard benchmarks except for one example. This suggests that it should be
used instead of the standard BFS algorithm for reachability analysis of timed
automata
