California shellfish importation and planting report 1973-1974 season
The amount of shellfish imported and planted in State waters is enumerated by species and compared with the previous season. Arrangements were made with the Washington State Department of Fisheries to inspect the bulk of the seed oysters originating in Washington State. One shipment of 1,330 cases of Pacific oyster, Crassostrea gigas, seed was imported from Japan. Adult Eastern oysters, Crassostrea virginica, were inspected upon
arrival in San Francisco. Experimental studies with seed from mortality resistant parents indicate good survival and growth. (5pp.
Human African trypanosomiasis : the current situation in endemic regions and the risks for non-endemic regions from imported cases
Human African trypanosomiasis (HAT) is caused by Trypanosoma brucei
gambiense and T. b. rhodesiense and caused devastating epidemics during the 20th
century. Due to effective control programs implemented in the last two decades, the
number of reported cases has fallen to a historically low level. Although fewer than
977 cases were reported in 2018 in endemic countries, HAT is still a public health
problem in endemic regions until it is completely eliminated. In addition, almost 150
confirmed HAT cases were reported in non-endemic countries in the last three
decades. The majority of non-endemic HAT cases were reported in Europe, United
States and South Africa, due to historical alliances, economic links or geographic
proximity to disease endemic countries. Furthermore, with the implementation of the
“Belt and Road” project, sporadic imported HAT cases have been reported in China
as a warning sign of tropical diseases prevention. In this paper, we explore and
interpret the data on HAT incidence and find no positive correlation between the
number of HAT cases from endemic and non-endemic countries. This data will
provide useful information for better understanding the imported cases of HAT
globally in the post-elimination phase
California shellfish importation and planting report 1975-1976 season
The amount of shellfishes imported and planted in
State waters is enumerated by species and compared
with the previous season. Total giant Pacific
oyster seed shipments were equivalent to 5,249
standard cases, compared with 11,884 standard
cases the previous season. Sources of these seed
oysters were Japan, Washington State and British
Columbia, Canada. Adult Eastern oyster shipments
from New York State totaled 442 bushels. (5pp.
Emerg. Infect. Dis
The multidrug-resistant (MDR) Salmonella enterica serotype Newport strain that produces CMY-2 β-lactamase(Newport MDR-AmpC) was the source of sporadic cases and outbreaks in humans in France during 2000–2005. Because this strain was not detected in food animals, it was most likely introduced into France through imported food products
Laboratory diagnosis of Zika infection imported cases
do sistema nervoso central. As infeções por vírus Zika, Dengue e Chikungunya
partilham, atualmente, os mosquitos vetores, a sintomatologia
e a distribuição geográfica.
Zika virus (Flavivirus) is a mosquito borne arbovirus, but maternofetal
and sexual transmission were also described. There is evidence that
Zika virus infections may be associated with Guillain-Barré syndrome
and congenital cases of microcephaly and other malformations of the
central nervous system. Zika, Dengue and Chikungunya virus infections
share currently the same mosquito vectors, the signs and symptoms of
the illness and the same and geographical distribution. The Center for
Vectors and Infectious Diseases Research from the National Institute of
Health Doutor Ricardo Jorge in their National Reference Laboratory for
Vector Borne Virus has developed diagnostic methods and epidemiological
studies of arboviruses since the beginning of the 90s. The Zika
diagnosis was developed and standardized in 2007. The Laboratory developed
molecular and serological diagnostic tests and have identified
several imported cases of Zika infections into Portuguese territory and
performed the differential diagnosis with Dengue and Chikungunya and
screening for infection in pregnant women and in suspected cases of
sexual transmission
The risk of acquiring the new influenza A(H1N1) for Brazilian travelers to Chile, Argentina and the USA
We estimate the risk of acquiring the new influenza A(H1N1) for Brazilian travelers to Chile, Argentina and the USA. This is done by a mathematical model that quantifies the intensity of transmission of the new virus in those countries and the probability that one individual has of acquiring the influenza depending on the date of arrival and time spent in the area. The maximum estimated risk reached 7.5 cases per 10,000 visitors to Chile, 17 cases per 10,000 travelers to Argentina and 23 cases per 10,000 travelers to the USA. The estimated number of imported cases until 27 July is 57 ± 9 from Chile, 136 ± 27 from the USA and 301 ± 21 from Argentina, which are in accord with the official figures. Estimating the number of imported cases was particularly important for the moment of the disease introduction into this country, but it will certainly be important again as a tool to calculate the number of future imported cases from northern countries in our next inter-epidemic season, were imported cases can constitute again the majority of the new influenza burden to the Brazilian health services.HCFMUSP - LIM01FAPESP(FAPERJ) Fundacao de Amparo a Pesquisa do Estado do Rio de Janeir
The Rise of U.S. Antidumping Actions in Historical Perspective
Empirical studies of antidumping activity focus almost exclusively on the period since 1980. This paper puts recent U.S. antidumping experience in historical context by studying the determinants of annual case filings over the past half century. The conventional view that few antidumping cases existed prior to 1980 is not correct, although most did not result in the imposition of duties. The increased number of cases in recent decades largely reflects petitions that target multiple source countries; the number of imported products involved has actually fallen since the mid 1980s. The annual number of antidumping cases is influenced by the unemployment rate, the exchange rate, import penetration (closely related to the decline in average tariffs), and changes in the antidumping law and its enforcement in the early 1980s.
California shellfish importation and planting report 1972-1973 season
The amount of shellfish imported and planted in State waters
is enumerated by species and compared with the previous
season. Arrangements were made with the Washington Stare
Department of Fisheries to inspect the bulk of the seed
oysters originating in Washington Stare. Only 121 standard
cases of Pacific oyster seed were imported from Japan. Adult
Eastern oysters were inspected upon arrival in San Francisco. Two shipments of chione clams from Mexico were inspected at Carlsbad Lagoon. Experimental studies with seed from mortality resistant parents indicate good survival and growth. (5pp.
OBCS: The Ontology of Biological and Clinical Statistics
Statistics play a critical role in biological and clinical research. To promote logically consistent representation and classification of statistical entities, we have developed the Ontology of Biological and Clinical Statistics (OBCS). OBCS extends the Ontology of Biomedical Investigations (OBI), an OBO Foundry ontology supported by some 20 communities. Currently, OBCS contains 686 terms, including 381 classes imported from OBI and 147 classes specific to OBCS. The goal of this paper is to present OBCS for community critique and to describe a number of use cases designed to illustrate its potential applications. The OBCS project and source code are available at http://obcs.googlecode.com
A Small Open Economy DSGE Model for Pakistan
This paper estimates a small open economy Dynamic Stochastic General Equilibrium (DSGE) model for Pakistan using Bayesian simulation approach. Model setup is based on new Keynesian framework, characterized by nominal rigidity in prices with habit formation in household’s consumption. The core objective is to study whether an estimated small open economy DSGE model provides a realistic behavior about the structure Pakistan economy with fully articulated description of the monetary policy transmission mechanism vis-à-vis domestic firm’s price setting behavior. To do so, we analyze the impulse responses of key macro variables; domestic inflation, imported inflation, output, consumption, interest rate, exchange rate, term of trade to different structural/exogenous shocks. From several interesting results, few are; (a) high inflation in Pakistan do not hit domestic consumption significantly; (b) Central bank of Pakistan responds to high inflation by increasing the policy rate by 100 to 200 bps; (c) exchange rate appreciates in both the cases of high domestic and imported inflation; (d) tight monetary policy stance helps to curb domestic inflation as well as imported inflation but appreciates exchange rate significantly (f) pass through of exchange rate to domestic inflation is very low; finally parameter value of domestic price stickiness shows that around 24 percent domestic firms do not re-optimize their prices which implies averaged price contract is about two quarters.New-Keynesian economics; open economy DSGE models; nominal rigidities; monetary policy transmission mechanism; Bayesian Approach
