PABED A Tool for Big Education Data Analysis
Cloud computing and big data have risen to become the most popular
technologies of the modern world. Apparently, the reason behind their immense
popularity is their wide range of applicability as far as the areas of interest
are concerned. Education and research remain one of the most obvious and
befitting application areas. This research paper introduces a big data
analytics tool, PABED Project Analyzing Big Education Data, for the education
sector that makes use of cloud-based technologies. This tool is implemented
using Google BigQuery and R programming language and allows comparison of
undergraduate enrollment data for different academic years. Although, there are
many proposed applications of big data in education, there is a lack of tools
that can actualize the concept into practice. PABED is an effort in this
direction. The implementation and testing details of the project have been
described in this paper. This tool validates the use of cloud computing and big
data technologies in education and shall head start development of more
sophisticated educational intelligence tools
Technofixing the Future: Ethical Side Effects of Using AI and Big Data to meet the SDGs
While the use of smart information systems (the combination of AI and Big Data) offer great potential for meeting many of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), they also raise a number of ethical challenges in their implementation. Through the use of six empirical case studies, this paper will examine potential ethical issues relating to use of SIS to meet the challenges in six of the SDGs (2, 3, 7, 8, 11, and 12). The paper will show that often a simple “technofix”, such as through the use of SIS, is not sufficient and may exacerbate, or create new, issues for the development community using SIS
A Framework for Integrating Transportation Into Smart Cities
In recent years, economic, environmental, and political forces have quickly given rise to “Smart Cities” -- an array of strategies that can transform transportation in cities. Using a multi-method approach to research and develop a framework for smart cities, this study provides a framework that can be employed to: Understand what a smart city is and how to replicate smart city successes; The role of pilot projects, metrics, and evaluations to test, implement, and replicate strategies; and Understand the role of shared micromobility, big data, and other key issues impacting communities.
This research provides recommendations for policy and professional practice as it relates to integrating transportation into smart cities
