On the Exploitation of Admittance Measurements for Wired Network Topology Derivation
The knowledge of the topology of a wired network is often of fundamental
importance. For instance, in the context of Power Line Communications (PLC)
networks it is helpful to implement data routing strategies, while in power
distribution networks and Smart Micro Grids (SMG) it is required for grid
monitoring and for power flow management. In this paper, we use the
transmission line theory to shed new light and to show how the topological
properties of a wired network can be found exploiting admittance measurements
at the nodes. An analytic proof is reported to show that the derivation of the
topology can be done in complex networks under certain assumptions. We also
analyze the effect of the network background noise on admittance measurements.
In this respect, we propose a topology derivation algorithm that works in the
presence of noise. We finally analyze the performance of the algorithm using
values that are typical of power line distribution networks.Comment: A version of this manuscript has been submitted to the IEEE

A Method for the Measurement of Digitizers’ Absolute Phase Error
A lot of engineering applications, from telecommunications to power systems, require
accurate measurement of phase angles. Some of them, like synchrophasor measurement and
calibration of instrument transformers with digital output, in order to reach high phase
measurement accuracy, require the knowledge of phase error of digitizers. Therefore, in this
paper a method for the measurement of digitizers’ absolute phase errors is proposed. It adopts a
sinewave and two square waves, that are the digitizer sample clock and a phase reference signal.
Combining the measurements of the relative phase differences between the adopted signals it is
possible to accurately evaluate the absolute phase error of a digitize
An improved design of a fully automated multiple output micropotentiometer
This paper describes in details a new design of a fully automated multiple output micropotentiometer (?pot). A prototype has been built at the National Institute for Standards (NIS), Egypt to establish this highly improved AC voltage source in the millivolt range. The new device offers three different outputs covering a wide frequency range from only one outlet. This valuably supports the precise sourcing ranges of low AC voltage at NIS. The design and the operation theory of this prototype have been discussed in details. An automatic calibration technique has been introduced through specially designed software using the LabVIEW program to enhance the calibration technique and to reduce the uncertainty contributions. Relative small AC-DC differences of our prototype in the three output ranges are fairly verified. The expanded uncertainties of the calibration results for the three output ranges have been faithfully estimated. However, further work is needed to achieve the optimum performance of this new device
