    Investigation of performance of fuzzy logic controllers optimized with the hybrid genetic-gravitational search algorithm for PMSM speed control

    Fuzzy logic controllers (FLCs) are widely used to control complex systems with model uncertainty, such as alternating current motors. The design process of the FLC is generally based on the designer’s adjustments on the controller until the desired performance is achieved. However, doing the controller design in this way makes the design process quite difficult and time-consuming, so it is often impossible to make a suitable and successful design. In this study, the output membership functions of the FLC are optimized with heuristic algorithms to reach the best speed control performance of the permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM). This paper proposes a new hybrid algorithm called H-GA-GSA, created by combining the advantages of the Genetic Algorithm (GA) and Gravitational Search Algorithm (GSA) to optimize FLC. The paper presents a convenient adjustment and design method for optimizing FLC with heuristic algorithms considered. To evaluate the effectiveness of H-GA-GSA, the proposed hybrid algorithm has been compared with GA and GSA in terms of convergence rate, PMSM speed control performance and electromagnetic torque variations. Optimization performance and results obtained from simulation studies verify that the proposed hybrid H-GA-GSA outperforms GA and GSA

    Intelligent active force control of a three-link manipulator using fuzzy logic

    The paper presents a novel approach to estimate the inertia matrix of a robot arm using a fuzzy logic (FL) mechanism in order to trigger the active force control (AFC) strategy. A comprehensive study is performed on a rigid three-link manipulator subjected to a number of external disturbances. The robustness and effectiveness of the proposed control scheme are investigated considering the trajectory track performance of the robotic arm taking into account the application of external disturbances and that the arm is commanded to describe a reference trajectory given a number of initial and operating conditions. The results show that the FL mechanism used in the study successfully computes appropriate estimated inertia matrix value to execute the control action. The proposed scheme exhibits a high degree of robustness and accuracy as the track error is bounded within an acceptable range of value even under the influence of the introduced disturbances

    Comparison of intelligent control methods for the ore jigging process

    Efficient control of the process of jigging ore of small and fine grain allows avoiding the loss of valuable material in production residual.  Due to the multi-dimensionality and multi-connectivity of this enrichment process, classical control methods do not allow achieving the maximum technological indicators of enrichment. This paper proposes investigating intelligent algorithms for controlling the jigging process, which determine the key variables - the level of the natural «bed» and the ripple frequency of the jigging machine. Algorithms are developed using fuzzy logic, neural and hybrid networks. The adequacy of intelligent algorithms was evaluated using the following criteria: correlation of expert and model values (R); Root Mean Square Error (RMSE); Mean absolute percentage error (MAPE). To assess the adequacy of the obtained algorithms, a test sample of input variables, different from the training one, was compiled. As a consequence, we determined an algorithm that gives a minimal discrepancy between the calculated and experimental data

    A novel hybrid many optimizing liaisons gravitational search algorithm approach for AGC of power systems

    A hybrid Many Optimizing Liaisons Gravitational Search Algorithm (hMOL-GSA)-based fuzzy PID controller is proposed in this work for Automatic Generation Control problem. MOL is a simplified version of particle swarm optimization which ignores the particle best position consequently simplifying the algorithm. The proposed method is employed to tune the fuzzy PID parameters. The outcomes are equated with some newly proposed methods like Artificial Bee Colony (ABC)-based PID for the identical test systems to validate the supremacy of GSA and proposed hMOL-GSA techniques. Further, the design task has been carried out in a three-area test system and the outcomes are equated with newly proposed Firefly Algorithm (FA) optimized PID and Teaching Learning-Based Optimization (TLBO) tuned PIDD controller for the identical system. Better system response has been observed with proposed hMOL-GSA method. Finally, sensitivity study is being carried out and robustness of the proposed method is established

    FUZZY TIME SERIES BASED ON THE HYBRID OF FCM WITH CMBO OPTIMIZATION TECHNIQUE FOR HIGH WATER PREDICTION

    Time series data represents measurements taken over a specific period and is often employed for forecasting purposes. The typical approach in forecasting involves the analysis of relationships among estimated variables.In this study, we apply Fuzzy Time Series (FTS) to water level data collected every 10 minutes at the Irish Achill Island Observation Station. The FTS, which is based on Fuzzy C-Means (FCM), is hybridized with the Cat and Mouse Based Optimizer (CMBO). This hybridization of FCM with the CMBO optimizer aims to address weaknesses inherent in FTS, particularly concerning the determination of interval lengths, with the ultimate goal of enhancing prediction accuracy.Before conducting forecasts, we execute the FCM-CMBO process to determine the optimal centroid used for defining interval lengths within the FTS framework. Our study utilizes a dataset comprising 52,562 data points, obtained from the official Kaggle website. Subsequently, we assess forecasting accuracy using the Mean Absolute Percent Error (MAPE), where a smaller percentage indicates superior performance. Our proposed methodology effectively mitigates the limitations associated with interval length determination and significantly improves forecasting accuracy. Specifically, the MAPE percentage for FTS-FCM before optimization is 20.180%, while that of FCM-CMBO is notably lower at 18.265%. These results highlight the superior performance of the FCM-CMBO hybrid approach, which achieves a forecasting accuracy of 81.735% when compared to actual data
