Unbridled Access: Using Wikis to Document Policies and Procedures

    Get PDF
Providing staff access to policies and procedures is vital to keeping Technical Services, and the rest of the library system, functioning smoothly. As staff members come and go, good documentation aids training and ensures continuity. The challenge is finding a way to make important resources available to all staff, while keeping it easy to use and up to date. Both Boone and Campbell County Public Libraries chose to use a wiki to accomplish this goal. Boone’s wiki is less than a year old, while Campbell’s has been in use for over ten years. Though both libraries set out with the same basic solution to the same problem, their differing priorities lead to two somewhat different approaches. Join us as we compare and contrast two documentation wikis that are helping to demystify Technical Services and further internal communication throughout the library system. We’ll also discuss getting a documentation wiki off the ground, and how it evolves over time

Process Mining as a Strategy of Inquiry: Understanding Design Interventions and the Development of Business Processes

    Get PDF
Process (re-)design and improvement are important aspectsof the Business Process Management (BPM) life-cycle. Yet, there is lit-tle empirical evidence on how design interventions materialize in actualprocess execution, leading to repeated failure of such initiatives. In thisdissertation I use the emerging affordances of process mining algorithmsto address this important limitation. In particular, I devise a methodthat combines process mining and grounded theory to study processualphenomena. Consequently, this method is applied to investigate changein business processes. This thesis contributes to the body of knowledgein BPM and bordering disciplines by demonstrating how process min-ing can be used as a method to study processual phenomena. Furtherthis research sheds light on the impact of design interventions on actualprocess execution and vica versa

A performance of 2 dimensional ultrasonic vibration assisted milling in cutting force reduction, on aluminium AL6061

This paper were investigate a performance of 2 Dimensional Ultrasonic Vibration assisted Milling (UVAM) toward Aluminium Al 6061. The focus is to find the performance of reduction of cutting force compared to the conventional machining in the industries shop floor. Due to the major effect of cutting force of production in industries, the excessive cutting force problem must be investigated deeply as it will cause shortens tool life and reduces the production rate. A scientific approach has been found in order to reduce the cutting force during machining which is integrating the ultrasonic concept into workpiece. The modelling of vibration cutting ratio has been simulated to find the time force contact and non-contact. Thus, less cutting force could be found. The ultrasonic vibration platform that generated by XY25XS from Cedrat Technologies is travelled in X direction as a feed movement. Thus, the X and Y axis vibration actuate along the workpiece for the machining process. The performance of UVAM in cutting force reduction found the superior benefits of UVAM is come from the alternating cycle’s between tool and workpiece. The comparison between UVAM and conventional machining in reduction of cutting force is 32%. The potential of the UVAM tool wear and tool life will be discussed deeply in finding and next in the conclusion section

3 case studies: a hybrid educational strategy for ART/SCI collaborations

In this paper we report on a transdisciplinary university course designed to bring together fine art/visual communication design and computer science students for the creation and implementation of collaborative visual/audio projects that draw upon the specialized knowledge of both these disciplines. While an overview of the syllabus and the teaching methodologies is undertaken in the introduction, the focus of the paper concentrates upon an in-depth discussion and analysis of 3 specific projects that were developed by 3 distinct teams of students comprised of one artist/designer and one engineer each
