Multimedia Correlation Analysis in Unstructured Peer-to-Peer Network
Recent years saw the rapid development of peer-topeer (P2P) networks in a great variety of applications. However, similarity-based k-nearest-neighbor retrieval (k-NN) is still a challenging task in P2P networks due to the multiple constraints such as the dynamic topologies and the unpredictable data updates. Caching is an attractive solution that reduces network traffic and hence could remedy the technological constraints of P2P networks. However, traditional caching techniques have some major shortcomings that make them unsuitable for similarity search, such as the lack of semantic locality representation and the rigidness of exact matching on data objects. To facilitate the efficient similarity search, we propose semantic-aware caching scheme (SAC) in this paper. The proposed scheme is hierarchy-free, fully dynamic, non-flooding, and do not add much system overhead. By exploring the content distribution, SAC drastically reduces the cost of similarity-based k-NN retrieval in P2P networks. The performance of SAC is evaluated through simulation study and compared against several search schemes as advanced in the literature
An altruistic cross-layer recovering mechanism for ad hoc wireless networks
Video streaming services have restrictive delay and bandwidth constraints. Ad hoc networks represent a hostile environment for this kind of real-time data transmission. Emerging mesh networks, where a backbone provides more topological stability, do not even assure a high quality of experience. In such scenario, mobility of terminal nodes causes link breakages until a new route is calculated. In the meanwhile, lost packets cause annoying video interruptions to the receiver. This paper proposes a new mechanism of recovering lost packets by means of caching overheard packets in neighbor nodes and retransmit them to destination. Moreover, an optimization is shown, which involves a video-aware cache in order to recover full frames and prioritize more significant frames. Results show the improvement in reception, increasing the throughput as well as video quality, whereas larger video interruptions are considerably reduced. Asymptotic Laws for Joint Content Replication and Delivery in Wireless Networks
We investigate on the scalability of multihop wireless communications, a
major concern in networking, for the case that users access content replicated
across the nodes. In contrast to the standard paradigm of randomly selected
communicating pairs, content replication is efficient for certain regimes of
file popularity, cache and network size. Our study begins with the detailed
joint content replication and delivery problem on a 2D square grid, a hard
combinatorial optimization. This is reduced to a simpler problem based on
replication density, whose performance is of the same order as the original.
Assuming a Zipf popularity law, and letting the size of content and network
both go to infinity, we identify the scaling laws and regimes of the required
link capacity, ranging from O(\sqrt{N}) down to O(1)
Separation Framework: An Enabler for Cooperative and D2D Communication for Future 5G Networks
Soaring capacity and coverage demands dictate that future cellular networks
need to soon migrate towards ultra-dense networks. However, network
densification comes with a host of challenges that include compromised energy
efficiency, complex interference management, cumbersome mobility management,
burdensome signaling overheads and higher backhaul costs. Interestingly, most
of the problems, that beleaguer network densification, stem from legacy
networks' one common feature i.e., tight coupling between the control and data
planes regardless of their degree of heterogeneity and cell density.
Consequently, in wake of 5G, control and data planes separation architecture
(SARC) has recently been conceived as a promising paradigm that has potential
to address most of aforementioned challenges. In this article, we review
various proposals that have been presented in literature so far to enable SARC.
More specifically, we analyze how and to what degree various SARC proposals
address the four main challenges in network densification namely: energy
efficiency, system level capacity maximization, interference management and
mobility management. We then focus on two salient features of future cellular
networks that have not yet been adapted in legacy networks at wide scale and
thus remain a hallmark of 5G, i.e., coordinated multipoint (CoMP), and
device-to-device (D2D) communications. After providing necessary background on
CoMP and D2D, we analyze how SARC can particularly act as a major enabler for
CoMP and D2D in context of 5G. This article thus serves as both a tutorial as
well as an up to date survey on SARC, CoMP and D2D. Most importantly, the
article provides an extensive outlook of challenges and opportunities that lie
at the crossroads of these three mutually entangled emerging technologies.Comment: 28 pages, 11 figures, IEEE Communications Surveys & Tutorials 201
An Optimized Multi-Layer Resource Management in Mobile Edge Computing Networks: A Joint Computation Offloading and Caching Solution
Nowadays, data caching is being used as a high-speed data storage layer in
mobile edge computing networks employing flow control methodologies at an
exponential rate. This study shows how to discover the best architecture for
backhaul networks with caching capability using a distributed offloading
technique. This article used a continuous power flow analysis to achieve the
optimum load constraints, wherein the power of macro base stations with various
caching capacities is supplied by either an intelligent grid network or
renewable energy systems. This work proposes ubiquitous connectivity between
users at the cell edge and offloading the macro cells so as to provide features
the macro cell itself cannot cope with, such as extreme changes in the required
user data rate and energy efficiency. The offloading framework is then reformed
into a neural weighted framework that considers convergence and Lyapunov
instability requirements of mobile-edge computing under Karush Kuhn Tucker
optimization restrictions in order to get accurate solutions. The cell-layer
performance is analyzed in the boundary and in the center point of the cells.
The analytical and simulation results show that the suggested method
outperforms other energy-saving techniques. Also, compared to other solutions
studied in the literature, the proposed approach shows a two to three times
increase in both the throughput of the cell edge users and the aggregate
throughput per cluster
