    New Algorithm for Fast Processing RFID System in Container Terminal

    The growth of world economic and increasing of trading in most of countries has impact to the number of containers export and import between countries. Some of container terminal is very busy to handle high volume of container movement. Conventional operational procedures have difficulties to handle containers movement then make slow and some issues in terminal operation for container clearance. This paper discus on proposing new algorithm to the current container terminal management system used RFID technology for fast processing and clearance. Container Terminal Management System (CTMS) is a system for port management and interface to the RFID system that used to identify container e-seal, truck and driver identity. Lack of communication and interfacing protocol made slow response during request or reply of message to the gate operator. Proposed algorithm with new procedure of request to CTMS made faster response and avoid inaccuracy of detecting container e-seal. Results of implementation new algorithm have improved to the productivity and efficiency of container terminal. Testing and implementation of this proposed system conducted in a private container terminal in Malaysia

    International audienceWhile RFID technology is gaining increased attention from industrial community deploying different RFID-based applications, it still suffers from reading collisions. As such, many proposals were made by the scientific community to try and alleviate that issue using different techniques either centralized or distributed, monochannel or multichannels, TDMA or CSMA. However, the wide range of solutions and their diversity make it hard to have a clear and fair overview of the different works. This paper surveys the most relevant and recent known state-of-the-art anti-collision for RFID protocols. It provides a classification and performance evaluation taking into consideration different criteria as well as a guide to choose the best protocol for given applications depending on their constraints or requirements but also in regard to their deployment environments

SBSE has been applied to problems throughout the SE lifecycle, from requirements and project planning to maintenance and reengineering. The approach is attractive because it offers a suite of adaptive automated and semiautomated solutions in situations typified by large complex problem spaces with multiple competing and conflicting objectives. This article provides a review and classification of literature on SBSE.     Cyber-Physical Systems for Smart Water Networks: A Review

    There is a growing demand to equip Smart Water Networks (SWN) with advanced sensing and computation capabilities in order to detect anomalies and apply autonomous event-triggered control. Cyber-Physical Systems (CPSs) have emerged as an important research area capable of intelligently sensing the state of SWN and reacting autonomously in scenarios of unexpected crisis development. Through computational algorithms, CPSs can integrate physical components of SWN, such as sensors and actuators, and provide technological frameworks for data analytics, pertinent decision making, and control. The development of CPSs in SWN requires the collaboration of diverse scientific disciplines such as civil, hydraulics, electronics, environment, computer science, optimization, communication, and control theory. For efficient and successful deployment of CPS in SWN, there is a need for a common methodology in terms of design approaches that can involve various scientific disciplines. This paper reviews the state of the art, challenges, and opportunities for CPSs, that could be explored to design the intelligent sensing, communication, and control capabilities of CPS for SWN.     Heuristic optimization of electrical energy systems: Refined metrics to compare the solutions

    Many optimization problems admit a number of local optima, among which there is the global optimum. For these problems, various heuristic optimization methods have been proposed. Comparing the results of these solvers requires the definition of suitable metrics. In the electrical energy systems literature, simple metrics such as best value obtained, the mean value, the median or the standard deviation of the solutions are still used. However, the comparisons carried out with these metrics are rather weak, and on these bases a somehow uncontrolled proliferation of heuristic solvers is taking place. This paper addresses the overall issue of understanding the reasons of this proliferation, showing a conceptual scheme that indicates how the assessment of the best solver may result in the unlimited formulation of new solvers. Moreover, this paper shows how the use of more refined metrics defined to compare the optimization result, associated with the definition of appropriate benchmarks, may make the comparisons among the solvers more robust. The proposed metrics are based on the concept of first-order stochastic dominance and are defined for the cases in which: (i) the globally optimal solution can be found (for testing purposes); and (ii) the number of possible solutions is so large that practically it cannot be guaranteed that the global optimum has been found. Illustrative examples are provided for a typical problem in the electrical energy systems area – distribution network reconfiguration.     Contributions to the development of the CRO-SL algorithm: Engineering applications problems

    This Ph.D. thesis discusses advanced design issues of the evolutionary-based algorithm \textit{"Coral Reef Optimization"}, in its Substrate-Layer (CRO-SL) version, for optimization problems in Engineering Applications. The problems that can be tackled with meta-heuristic approaches is very wide and varied, and it is not exclusive of engineering. However we focus the Thesis on it area, one of the most prominent in our time. One of the proposed application is battery scheduling problem in Micro-Grids (MGs). Specifically, we consider an MG that includes renewable distributed generation and different loads, defined by its power profiles, and is equipped with an energy storage device (battery) to address its programming (duration of loading / discharging and occurrence) in a real scenario with variable electricity prices. Also, we discuss a problem of vibration cancellation over structures of two and four floors, using Tuned Mass Dampers (TMD's). The optimization algorithm will try to find the best solution by obtaining three physical parameters and the TMD location. As another related application, CRO-SL is used to design Multi-Input-Multi-Output Active Vibration Control (MIMO-AVC) via inertial-mass actuators, for structures subjected to human induced vibration. In this problem, we will optimize the location of each actuator and tune control gains. Finally, we tackle the optimization of a textile modified meander-line Inverted-F Antenna (IFA) with variable width and spacing meander, for RFID systems. Specifically, the CRO-SL is used to obtain an optimal antenna design, with a good bandwidth and radiation pattern, ideal for RFID readers. Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) has become one of the most numerous manufactured devices worldwide due to a reliable and inexpensive means of locating people.
