Generalized Forward-Backward Splitting with Penalization for Monotone Inclusion Problems
We introduce a generalized forward-backward splitting method with penalty
term for solving monotone inclusion problems involving the sum of a finite
number of maximally monotone operators and the normal cone to the nonempty set
of zeros of another maximal monotone operator. We show weak ergodic convergence
of the generated sequence of iterates to a solution of the considered monotone
inclusion problem, provided the condition corresponded to the Fitzpatrick
function of the operator describing the set of the normal cone is fulfilled.
Under strong monotonicity of an operator, we show strong convergence of the
iterates. Furthermore, we utilize the proposed method for minimizing a
large-scale hierarchical minimization problem concerning the sum of
differentiable and nondifferentiable convex functions subject to the set of
minima of another differentiable convex function. We illustrate the
functionality of the method through numerical experiments addressing
constrained elastic net and generalized Heron location problems
A Douglas-Rachford splitting for semi-decentralized equilibrium seeking in generalized aggregative games
We address the generalized aggregative equilibrium seeking problem for
noncooperative agents playing average aggregative games with affine coupling
constraints. First, we use operator theory to characterize the generalized
aggregative equilibria of the game as the zeros of a monotone set-valued
operator. Then, we massage the Douglas-Rachford splitting to solve the monotone
inclusion problem and derive a single layer, semi-decentralized algorithm whose
global convergence is guaranteed under mild assumptions. The potential of the
proposed Douglas-Rachford algorithm is shown on a simplified resource
allocation game, where we observe faster convergence with respect to
forward-backward algorithms.Comment: arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:1803.1044
Generalized Forward-Backward Splitting
This paper introduces the generalized forward-backward splitting algorithm
for minimizing convex functions of the form , where
has a Lipschitz-continuous gradient and the 's are simple in the sense
that their Moreau proximity operators are easy to compute. While the
forward-backward algorithm cannot deal with more than non-smooth
function, our method generalizes it to the case of arbitrary . Our method
makes an explicit use of the regularity of in the forward step, and the
proximity operators of the 's are applied in parallel in the backward
step. This allows the generalized forward backward to efficiently address an
important class of convex problems. We prove its convergence in infinite
dimension, and its robustness to errors on the computation of the proximity
operators and of the gradient of . Examples on inverse problems in imaging
demonstrate the advantage of the proposed methods in comparison to other
splitting algorithms.Comment: 24 pages, 4 figure
Multi-physics Optimal Transportation and Image Interpolation
International audienceOptimal transportation theory is a powerful tool to deal with image interpolation. This was first investigated by Benamou and Brenier \cite{BB00} where an algorithm based on the minimization of a kinetic energy under a conservation of mass constraint was devised. By structure, this algorithm does not preserve image regions along the optimal interpolation path, and it is actually not very difficult to exhibit test cases where the algorithm produces a path of images where high density regions split at the beginning before merging back at its end. However, in some applications to image interpolation this behaviour is not physically realistic. Hence, this paper aims at studying how some physics can be added to the optimal transportation theory, how to construct algorithms to compute solutions to the corresponding optimization problems and how to apply the proposed methods to image interpolation
A forward-backward splitting algorithm for the minimization of non-smooth convex functionals in Banach space
We consider the task of computing an approximate minimizer of the sum of a
smooth and non-smooth convex functional, respectively, in Banach space.
Motivated by the classical forward-backward splitting method for the
subgradients in Hilbert space, we propose a generalization which involves the
iterative solution of simpler subproblems. Descent and convergence properties
of this new algorithm are studied. Furthermore, the results are applied to the
minimization of Tikhonov-functionals associated with linear inverse problems
and semi-norm penalization in Banach spaces. With the help of
Bregman-Taylor-distance estimates, rates of convergence for the
forward-backward splitting procedure are obtained. Examples which demonstrate
the applicability are given, in particular, a generalization of the iterative
soft-thresholding method by Daubechies, Defrise and De Mol to Banach spaces as
well as total-variation based image restoration in higher dimensions are
